Week 6: My City

Project 52

This picture was taken at Sunset Park in my current city of Florissant. What makes this picture special for me is that the tower lines you see in the picture actually run across the river directly into my original 'city' of Black Walnut, MO. When I bought this house the power lines running down the street reminded me of the power lines that ran through my great grandparents' farm - turns out they were the same ones!

24th - 30th December 2012

Calm down

Deep breaths

And get yourself dressed

Instead.

I came so close to running away, giving up on everything... and yet I didn't.

Maybe I can do this.

I'm back at my parents for the week and while I don't enjoy it very much, it was nice to see my family and friends again. I went outside looking for a location to shoot, but everything was muddy and not interesting. Then I looked through the trees, and not at it, and I had an idea.

Merry Christmas everybody and a happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all. Here is my entry for Week # 01, NEW. This is a wheel from the new bike I bought for my wife. Nothing like a new bike that runs and shifts smoothly! With new tires, there are always the little pieces of rubber that stick out and eventually wear off with use. These tires have a lot of these. I love the spoke pattern on these wheels too.

With the first day of Hanukkah coinciding with Thanksgiving this year, it was a busy week of cooking. Fortunately, I didn't host on Thursday (I hosted on Friday) so I had some time to make some homemade apple sauce. It was my first attempt at such a concoction. It turns out that adding one third pear makes for a nice taste. So technically it's apple-pear sauce. It went well with the mini latkes I also made.:)

Photos From Mustang Week 2016

Katie, for my Week by Week set. Taken April 27th.

There were free moustaches in the students' union, and suddenly the world was introduced to Sam McTash: quick at the draw, slick with the wimmin, and a mean taste for liquor.

(I was trying to make a 'tache like Nick Cave currently has but this scuzzy cowboy appeared instead.)

Summer Movies

Nothing like the early weeks of May as the Summer Movie Season kicks off. That means "BLOCKBUSTERS"! This May looks like a good one with Iron Man kicking off this week and Indiana Jones later on. Not to mention that we get Dark Knight, Hancock, Wall E, Kung Fu Panda and more.

I know that with quick turnarounds on DVD releases and torrents, movies can be had at home for little or no cost. But, I'm a fan of a good movie experience. Nothing like big crowds, the smell of popcorn permeating the hallways and a the great picture and sounds.

As a youngster, we'd surely spend our summer days visiting some local theater be it the $1 show running B-grade 3D films, the Capitol Drive-In, and the upscale Winchester Century Domes.

It's a bit funny how things cycle. We have a couple of monster plexs nearby. Literally, 36 screens within 5 minutes of the house. But, we find ourselves heading to the Domes more and more. Smaller crowds but still a quality experience. I've been told that the Domes were very, very upscale in the 60s. It was considered far more than a casual drop in. People would get fancied up to go there and the candy was served from fancy platters and not just giant tubs.

It's not that way anymore but those theaters still maintain a bit of the ambiance. But, it'll change eventually because that property could easily be turned into 100 Plex if they wanted. Someone will realize that the are only running 6 screens and turn it into some extension of Santana Row.

In the meantime, we'll enjoy our popcorn. And Slurpees.

a little behind on posting my week 7 blocks!

A new age for me starts now.

I searched for a digital reflex camera since month and yesterday I bought this baby :) - a Canon EOS 500D.

First I wanted to buy the 450D because there was a special bargain. But then I gave some thoughts to the future and decided to invest only 50 Euro more.

This week I was on the way to get some documents which I need for my apartment hunting.

On saturday evening I met Andrea, a Flickr friend, who visited Berlin. She wants to move to Berlin and so she was here to get an idea of the different districts of Berlin. She also do '365 days', so take a look at her stream ;-)

ICM or Intentional camera Movement is something new to me or is it, many a photograph I took years ago on an old zenith camera came out like this !!

Anyway I gave it a go and these are the results..

Some of you may remember my shot from week 30 when we were house sitting.

While he wasn't in the shot, he is the dog that everyone aside from Rigby, was looking at out of frame.

Funnily enough, Rigby was really the only one that paid any attention to the decrepit old dog.

Dino was the reason that we were house-sitting that week. His owner feared that he may die in her absence, so she opted out of boarding.

He was fine with us during that week. Came on the occasional walk with us, ate his food no problem.

Last week he lost the use of his legs entirely. He couldn't move at all. His owner decided that this was the best course of action for her elderly Yorkie. We will be holding a memorial for him sometime in the coming weeks.

Rest In Peace Dino, you will be missed by many.

Today is week 40 and no signs of baby yet?

Last two times the babies waited until week 42 to come in to the world, but we hope not this time. This are hoping that this weekend the magic will happen!!!!!

This weekend scholars took part in "Get Your Feet Wet," a single class that allows them to try out a subject they have little experience in. Topics they could choose from included Sushi Making, Shibori Tie-Dye, and Oreo Stacking.

Just dyeing my hair before I leave for tour. Thanks for the help ma! Also, I get my 5d mark II back tomorrow, I'm excited. >:D

This Weeks 52 Weeks Theme is "Waiting"..... of which I did quite a bit this week :-)

After a wonderful 3 week holiday in South Africa it was time to hit the long road home - 36 hours from when I left Johannesburg to eventually arriving back to my home in New Zealand...with a 18 hour transit stop in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia....

The main photo is the "waiting area" at the gates in Terminal C of the Kuala Lumpur airport.

Below is the international arrivals area at Oliver Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, and below that is some fantastic "waiting" seats at KL airport (with the impressive rainforest in the background)

I love the Aiport in KL - it is one of the few airports where I do not actually mind having to spend time in between flights, as they have a lot of the "little things" that travellers need ......Free WiFi, decent eateries, great shopping, very nice Transit Hotel, Transit Lounge for $50 for 2 hours etc....

Looking for adventure!

A fun shot of Conan before I chased her down, wore her out and shot her sneaky portrait.

Week #40 Wildlife - Ready to leap! I caught this little guy jumping through the branches. He knew I was watching. It was almost like he was putting on a show for me.

Final image. I wanted to turn this on it's side as soon as I saw it through the viewfinder. The contact sheet show about 4 images for this shot and they are all of increasing exposure duration. Oddly, I chose the shortest, rather than the longest as a better image!

The Big Stopper doesn't make all pictures better apparently :)
