A woman sitting next to some coin operated washing machines in the Bang Lam Phu area of Bangkok, Thailand.

Before we continue with the bright and colorful photos of autumn and Christmas, here is one I took Saturday afternoon while doing laundry.

I had brought a book to read, but the radio was up too loud, distracting me. I was leaning against the one top-loading washer I was using and decided to photograph these two huge front loaders. Like many of the washers and dryers in this place, they were not working. I realize the pandemic has made it difficult to pay for repairs, and that also may be why the prices for washing has gone up.

I go to this place because it is within walking distance, and it is rarely busy. But it does seem to have too many crummy, broken down washers and dryers.

Not the most exciting subject to photograph, but I just got a new smartphone and this was the first chance I had to use the ultra-wide lens on it.

I didn't want to buy a new smartphone, but with the previous one I had the battery began to expand, pushing out the back. There isn't much that can be done when that happens, and it is pointless to try to get a replacement battery, so the best thing for me to do was to just get a new phone.

This phone has a three-lens camera to it. I can shoot standard framed shots, but under low light; I can shoot macro shots; and I can shoot ultra-wide shots, as you see here.

Just as well I'm not claustrophobic. I do suffer from motion sickness though...

My local launderette at night

Apparel we have washed,

Garments we dried.

Without any stain,

Until our functions died.

It’s alongside the road,

That we were placed.

Your token of gratitude,

To be dumped as waste.

Please recycle us,

Wash our reputation clean,

Forge this pile of junk,

Into your new washing machine.

it has been 40 years since I had occasion to spend time in a laundry mat - 40 years!!!!! So what to do? Well let's just see if there is anything of interest in the machinery and atmosphere of the business.
