Following a dental appointment this morning, I decided to go for a walk in the local park. Found this Kingbird hunting and singing in the warm sunshine. Life is good… even after a trip to the Dentist : )

Western Kingbird
The Western Kingbird is a large flycatcher found throughout western environments of North America and as far south as Mexico.
Kingbirds are fairly large flycatchers with large heads and broad shoulders. They have heavy, straight bills, long wings, and a medium-length, square-tipped tail.
Easily found perched upright on fences and utility lines, Western Kingbirds hawk insects from the air or fly out to pick prey from the ground. They ferociously defend their territories with wing-fluttering, highly vocal attacks. Vocalizations include long series of squeaky, bubbling calls as well as single, accented kip notes.

I wish we have this winter, as we always had in old days. I love snow in January.. but - no snow at all here.

Morning walk in Barot, Himachal Pradesh,India.To the right is a potato field and you can catch a glimpse of the village in the distance.
Barot is a village developed in the 1920s by the British for the Shanan Hydel project on the Uhl River.It is situated in an extremely remote and picturesque little valley about 25 kms off the Mandi-Jogindernagar highway in Himachal Pradesh.The valley is watered by the Uhl River and is famous for trout breeding.There are forests of Deodar,Oak and Rohodendron and pretty little villages surrounded by terraced fields which were at the moment golden with ripening wheat,.Barot is at a distance of about 40 kms from the town of Jogindernagar but the British had also built a funicular trolley which reduces the distance to 12 kms.However the trolley ,as far as I could gather ,is no longer functional.
