Following a dental appointment this morning, I decided to go for a walk in the local park. Found this Kingbird hunting and singing in the warm sunshine. Life is good… even after a trip to the Dentist : )

Western Kingbird
The Western Kingbird is a large flycatcher found throughout western environments of North America and as far south as Mexico.
Kingbirds are fairly large flycatchers with large heads and broad shoulders. They have heavy, straight bills, long wings, and a medium-length, square-tipped tail.
Easily found perched upright on fences and utility lines, Western Kingbirds hawk insects from the air or fly out to pick prey from the ground. They ferociously defend their territories with wing-fluttering, highly vocal attacks. Vocalizations include long series of squeaky, bubbling calls as well as single, accented kip notes.

Ein wunderschöner Wanderweg führt durch die Vorbergzone des
Südlichen Schwarzwalds bei Badenweiler-Lipburg.
Er ist dem Schriftsteller René Schickele (1883-1940) gewidmet, der Badenweiler als seine zweite Heimat wählte und der diesen Wanderweg häufig zur Entspannung nutzte.
In seinem Buch "Himmlische Landschaft"(eine Dichtung über das Markgräflerland) beschrieb er ihn.
René Schickele gilt als bedeutender deutsch-französischer Schriftsteller, dessen Engagement für die deutsch-französische Freundschaft sein Leben prägte. "Citoyen français und deutscher Dichter" nannte er sich selbst.
Seine Werke spiegeln eine Vielzahl literarischer Strömungen wider, die die Eigenschaften der deutschen sowie der französischen Dichtkunst vereinen.
Nach Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges zog Schickele nach Badenweiler, wo ihn Freundschaften mit der Schriftstellerin Annette Kolb und dem Maler Emil Bizer verbanden.
Er musste jedoch, aufgrund der drohenden Herrschaft der Nationalsozialisten, 1932 von Badenweiler nach Südfrankreich emigrieren. Dort lernte er bedeutende deutsche Literaten wie Bertold Brecht, Thomas und Heinrich Mann sowie Arnold Zweig kennen.
Auf seinen Wunsch hin wurde er auf dem Friedhof in Badenweiler-Lipburg beigesetzt. Hier endet -oder beginnt- auch der Wanderweg.

The triangular Plönlein, or "little square," is one of the most famous views in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and also the most photographed. To the left is the Siebers Tower and to the right is Kobolzell Gate. It was a rainy day, but proved to be one of the highlights of our trip to Bavaria this summer.
