War Department 2-8-0 no. 90733, was built at the Vulcan foundary, Newton-le-Willows and was sent to work in the Netherlands, before moving to the Swedish State Railways. It was acquired by the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in the 1970's and eventually returned to running order. In this view of the loco approaching Ingrow, it has been renumbered as 90711, bearing a 56F (Bradford Low Moor) shed plate. The original 90711 was allocated to that depot from 1958 to 1966, being withdrawn in January 1967 and cut up at Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield.

Colne Valley Railway

Ok, I know most people stop by here for bus pictures and that now have the side hobby of colourising old B&W pictures, but this one of Clem Smith's was worth a share I thought. As I've said on occasions before, when B&W is good, its good . . . aided here by the light.

The 2-10-0 locomotive is of couse 'Gordon'. A North British Locomotive Works built 'Riddles Austerity' built for the War Department during WW2.

So far as I'm aware, 'Gordon' was never a main-line engine, but served its its life at the famed and erstwhile Longmoor Military Railway in Hampshire where it was the largest of the locomotives used in training service personel in railway operation.

Happily nowadays 'Gordon' is preserved and after an operating career on the Severn Valley Railway, is now housed in their 'Engine House' museum as a static at Highley station. This was almost certainly my favourite locomotive in the railway's collection.

After about four years of hard graft, and lots of blood, sweat & swearing, Gunpowder Van WD 105761 is almost there - there's ony a few things left to do.
