An immature Gull, probably a Caspian Gull, flying over the lake in Harike Wildlife Sanctuary.

The larger gull was making an aerial attack on a black-headed gull, which is comparatively much smaller in size.

As was to be expected, the startled black-headed gull didn't take long to scamper away and fly towards safety.

A group of village women carrying cattle fodder gathered from fields near Ropar Lake, Punjab.

While life for affluent villagers in Punjab has modernized to a large extent, smaller households still carry on the traditional way of life, filled with scores of daily chores.

A local girl playing in an open ground next to her village, Lakkar Mandi, near Dalhousie, Himachal.

Seeing this girl playing alone, gathering up fallen leaves, made me wonder why we - urban dwellers - have become dependent on gadgets and social contacts to stimulate our playfulness and 'generate' happiness, when nature in itself can provide us all we need to be happy for more than a lifetime.

Flock of Eurasian Coots running on lake surface in Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab.

Coots display an interesting behaviour when disturbed while swimming in water. They don't fly away, but rather flap their wings and gain enough lift to run across the water surface.

Other waterbirds, like Gulls and Cormorants, can be seen taking a short flight to move with the Coots, as they can't run on the water like the latter.

Asian Verditer Flycatcher bird perched on a tree during drizzle in a forest near Manali, Himachal.

Verditer Flycatchers exhibit a behaviour that is distinct from other flycatchers. They like to perch high and above the forest canopy while foraging for insects.

A pair of bar-headed geese landing over grasslands in Pong Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, Himachal. The dots around the image are small flying insects that were everywhere.

With the swarm of insects all over the grasslands, the geese were in a feeding frenzy.

Flock of bar-headed geese flying over grasslands of Pong Lake Wildlife Sanctuary.

During migration, bar-headed geese fly in flocks, and the ones at the front honk to keep the flock in formation. Here, the geese were taking short flights in small groups. I felt that they were either practicing for their long migration post-winters, or were simply searching for a better foraging spot in the grassy wetland.

Long-tailed or Rufous-backed Shrike perched on a pole in a field near Ludhiana, Punjab.

Normally I avoid clicking wildlife when it is around or interacting with man-made objects. These images, I decided to click after a second thought. The results, I think, are "not too bad!"
