Siberian Stonechat female bird near Pong Lake in Himachal.
We tracked this bird while it was flying alongside us on the forest road, and clicked it in the golden hour light of the early evening.
Also known as Asian Stonechat, this bird breeds in the foothills of the Himalayas and all the way north to Siberia. During winters it moves tropical Asia, including the Indian subcontinent south of the Himalayas.

Intermediate Egret bird foraging on a hyacinth island at Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab.
This medium sized Heron is also known as Yellow-billed Egret. The yellow beak easily differentiates it from the smaller sized Little Egret.
A couple of boys enjoying langar at a farmers' protest site near Ludhiana, Punjab.
Such a scene should make us wonder; are we really so short of essential resources that vast numbers of humanity have to continue struggling for daily survival? Should we be giving up our traditional values of community living and welfare for the neo-liberal ideals of unapologetic individualism? The elation seen here from a rare bountiful meal is shadowed by the frequent despair of going to bed on an empty stomach.
A pair of bar-headed geese taking flight over grasslands in Pong Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, Himachal. The dots around the image are small insects that were everywhere.
On this sunny and relatively warm winter day, the wet grasslands that form the drawdown area of the lake were swarmed with small flying insects. Clicking pictures of geese from the ground, I was covered with these insects from hair to shoes.
A farmer sitting in a trolley near Ludhiana, Punjab.
The farmers' protests at Delhi's borders have been on for more than four months now. The farmers are dug in, taking turns in spending weeks at the protest sites. It has now become a game of patience, perseverance and, above all, faith.
An immature Gull, probably a Caspian Gull, flying over the lake in Harike Wildlife Sanctuary.
The larger gull was making an aerial attack on a black-headed gull, which is comparatively much smaller in size.
As was to be expected, the startled black-headed gull didn't take long to scamper away and fly towards safety.
