Bluethroat bird in Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab.
Bluethroat is a migratory bird which breeds from northern Eurasia to Alaska, and migrates to northern Africa and Indian Subcontinent for wintering.
This was a rare sighting of the bird in this region. It is difficult to identify unless one catches the blue and orange throat patches from a front view. These patches are fainter during non-breeding plumage, which this bird was carrying.

Harike Lake is formed by the barrage at confluence of two major rivers of East Punjab, Sutlej and Beas. It is the largest wetland in north India and is a Ramsar site.

Punjab has a water crisis - a rapidly falling water table. Diversification of cropping pattern away from wheat and rice is pandered as the fix-all solution. Is it really? Have we really given the farmers a reason to make the shift? Have we asked our leaders why we pay exorbitant prices for fruits and vegetables, while the farmer gets next to nothing? Do we ask our vegetable vendor about who sends him a message every morning fixing the retail prices for the day?
There is no law that can provide a solution, when the lawmakers themselves are part of the problem.

This small bird is quite hyperactive, and is a joy to watch as it makes acrobatic flights to catch insects.
The perch that this bird is on in this photograph seemed to be a favoured place for the many foraging small birds around, as the rock underneath was full of bird droppings.

Moving around the stretch of the river behind Club Mahindra Corbett Resort, this kingfisher with its partner seemed accustomed to people and was not bothered by the presence of a number of resort guests nearby.

This flycatcher lives in forests and spends breeding season foraging insects around forest streams and rivers.

With the change in weather (autumn), a number of birds can be seen in the strips of forest surrounding the Sirhind Canal system near Ludhiana. Good time to take your kids for birding not too far from the city.

I had a good sighting of this bird from Club Mahindra Corbett Resort as it flew around and settled at different spots in the stretch of river behind the resort. Capturing it while flying was challenging though, due to its swiftness in flight.

Also known as Large Pied Wagtail, this is the largest sized species among wagtail birds.

BOBMC RM this year was as good as any before, if not better. This congregation of mostly unpretentious, affable and passionate motorcycling enthusiasts always radiates positive energy. Every little endeavour that brings positive balance to the universe, I believe, should be celebrated.
