東京鐵塔由建築師內藤多仲與日建設計株式會社共同設計。高332.6米，較艾菲爾鐵塔的324米高出8.6米，較東京天空樹矮301.4米，比廣州塔矮267.4米，是世界第三高的自立式鐵塔，重4,000噸，與重7,300噸的艾菲爾鐵塔相比重量大幅減輕，開工於1957年6月29日，1958年10月14日竣工，12月7日正式公開，12月23日舉行竣工儀式，開始了正式營業。三分之一用於建塔的鋼鐵，來自韓戰時美軍坦克廢鐵。

The blue vase was a gift to my parents on their 60th wedding anniversary. In total they were married for 64 years. The beads were a gift to me on my 60th birthday from a very dear friend. They are both treasured items.
