Bootable VirtualBox install on a tiny USB flash drive. I love technology.

Screenshot of desktop2 on my Fedora 14 (RedHat based GNU/Linux Distribution) where is running VirtualBox with 3 running Virtual Machines :

1 - Bactrack (GNU/Linux Distribution) ;

2 - Windows XP Pro with Word 2003 running ;

3 - Windows Server 2003.

I installed 8GB of RAM in my primary desktop and immediately tried to use it all.

Host = Vista 64 bit

Guest VM's on VirtualBox:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Beta

Windows 2008 Server Enterprise

Sun Solaris 10

Sun OpenSolaris 2008.11

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackelope x64 Desktop

Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex x64 Server -- currently not running Oracle :(

I shrunk too much so it may be hard to read that I'm using 7.69GB. Host OS was lagging a fair bit but didn't fall over.

I was previously running 6GB and occasionally running out of RAM when being sloppy & unfocused with multiple VM's. The 6GB ran stably using the dynamic OC feature of this Gigabyte P35 board. Unfortunately the 8GB choked a couple times. I reverted to stock speeds and seems stable. I might have to adjust memory settings or do a manual OC. I went from 4-4-4-15 to 5-5-5-18 chips.

Found a Nikon AF3 while buying a Nikon F-801 for my daughter.

It's not as pretty as the original model but it has some cool features, like the white diffuser when it fires the flash at short distances, also it has "the" button for stoping the ever wanting to fire flash and at last but not least a nice macro distance.

The lense is good but i found it a little soft.

Nice camera to hang arround anyway. This little one will be a keeper.

The result was impressive. Windows runs unbelievably smooth.

Acceptable, but I am not going to upgrade my main work laptop anyway...

Next we need to create the content for our first sidebar in our app. Do this by pasting the code from here:

into the file Javascript/view/view.main.js. As you can probably gather reading over the code, we are adding a single button into the view (a textbutton, which is just the name for a button with a text label on it) and giving it an onSelect handler which shows a dialog when selected.

This is an installation of Office2007 running inside an XP VM .

I am using VirtualBox seamless to "take out" the application from VM display.

If you notice there is windows task bar at the bottom of the screen.

The speed is excellent. But I can't seem to connect the debugging bridge.

Quick installation and configuration using OSE (OpenNMS Sans Effort) 2.1b2, which includes:

This is running from VirtualBox 3.1.4, and it's not alaways ON, hence you'll see gaps between measurements.

How to Run Windows 10 on Mac with VirtualBox for OS X

Now that you’ve got the software components necessary to run Windows 10 in a virtual machine, let’s run through the installation process:

Open VirtualBox and click on the “New” button to build a new virtual machine

Name the new virtual machine “Windows 10 VM” (or something equally obvious), select “Microsoft Windows” as the type and choose “Windows 10″ as the version, then choose Continue

Select to create a new virtual hard drive, then choose Continue again

Back at the primary VirtualBox screen, choose “Start” to boot the new Windows 10 volume

Since there is no drive or OS installed yet, you will be asked to choose a virtual optical disk, click on the Folder icon and choose the Windows 10 ISO you downloaded earlier, then click “Start”

In a moment or two you’ll be in the Windows 10 installer, select your language and click “Next”

Go through the standard Windows 10 installation experience, this can take a little while but eventually you’ll create a user account, select a user name, and do some basic Windows configuration

When setup is finished, Windows 10 will be running in VirtualBox, right on your Mac – yes this is a full featured version of Windows

When you’re finished, quit VirtualBox like any other application and Windows 10 will shut down. When you want to run Windows again in OS X, just launch VirtualBox again, select your Windows 10 virtual machine, and click the “Start” button to boot Windows in the app. Easy, right?

Yes, this is a complete version of Windows 10. These preview builds expire eventually when the final version comes out from Microsoft, but there is some speculation that they may make Windows 10 free. Regardless, when the final version comes out you’ll be able to install it and run within VirtualBox the same way as outlined above.

Keep in mind this is a virtual machine, which basically means the VirtualBox app is functioning as a virtual computer on top of your existing Mac. This undoubtedly impacts performance, which is part of why the more resources the computer has the better the experience, so you’re not going to want to be using this for trying to play some wild Windows games in OS X. Nonetheless, this is more than sufficient for basic Windows tasks, using Windows apps like Internet Explorer, or just to get a feel for Windows 10. For a true native Windows experience on a Mac, you’d want to install the OS with Boot Camp as a side-by-side bootable operating system, we’ll cover that another time though.

If you’re enjoying this VirtualBox experience, you may be pleased to discover that you can run many other operating systems in the virtual machine environment as well. If you want to try Linux, you can run Ubuntu on your Mac with VirtualBox, or many versions of Internet Explorer in different Windows VMs, Windows 8, even Android 4, older versions of Mac OS X like Snow Leopard, and much more, you can explore our VirtualBox section for more.

If you get tired of Windows 10, you can either delete the virtual machine from within VirtualBox, or remove the Windows .vdi file (the virtual disk image) from your hard disk manually. Keep in mind that if you delete the VM, any files that you created in Windows will be removed as well.7

The next thing we need to do is fire up a terminal in the VM and install the WDK. First click on Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal. When it opens, cd into /devwidgets and if you do an ls, you will see that the directory is actually mapped over to the same directory which you ran vagrant up from.

Next, run the installer in that directory to install the WDK using the following command line:

> ./install.sh

as there are yet again delays in installing the MySource Matrix CMS that should have been up and running about a year or so ago, i decided to get a bit of a head start and get an instance working in a virtual machine on my desktop...let's see if that helps familiarise myself with it enough to get something basic in place before i leave this job...

Of course it's ok to run. No one on the internet has bad intentions.

The next thing we will do is demonstrate how your widget has a DOM like structure to it. To see the current DOM for your widget, type the following:

widget.toXML();

You can also use the shorthand version which is $$(); to print out the same thing (that function also takes a string id for the XML node or a node itself and prints out the tree from that specific element on as well).

Looking at the output, you will see there is a window tag which contains a single text element node with the text "Hello World". The actual structure itself isn't super important as the KONtx Framework abstracts this away from you, but it can be helpful especially for debugging purposes.
