Nadat deze EC 'Hungaria' mijn lens en videocamera was gepasseerd, gaf ik mezelf nog een klein kwartiertje in de parkeergarage. Niet dat het geen leuke plek was, maar ik had aan de ene kant nog andere plekjes op het oog en aan de andere kant wou ik mijn vrouw niet al te lang in een donkere parkeergarage laten zitten: als niet-inwoner van Pirna moet je namelijk op verdieping -1 parkeren terwijl ik dus op de tweede (en meteen hoogste) verdieping stond.
Nu, het heeft daar zelfs geen kwartier meer geduurd want exact vijf minuten na de EC verscheen al een eerste cargo in de vorm van een grijze Railpool-loc (185 696) met een sleep platte wagons en nog eens exact vijf minuten later verscheen dan deze mooie blauwe gouwe ouwe 140 017 van PRESS met een - naar mijn idee - hele sleep splinternieuwe wagons aan de haak.
En zo had ik dit locje dus al voor de tweede keer voor de lens deze vakantie ;-)

Nach diesem EC 'Hungaria' in Richtung Dresden, wollte ich noch eine kleine Viertelstunde im Parkhaus warten. Vielleicht kamen da noch einige Güterzüge...
Eine Viertelstunde hat's nich mehr gedauert, denn fünf Miuten nach dem EC kam schon der erste Güterzug in Form der Railpool-Ellok 185 696 aber danach kam erst das Highlight! PRESS 140 017-5 fuhr mit einem artreinen leeren Güterzug - meiner Meinung nach - fabrikneuer Wagen gen Dresden!

So far, so good with this EC 'Hungaria'! But perhaps, there came also a few freight trains?
I wanted to wait another 15 minutes but hey, within the next ten minutes, there came two freight trains. The first train was pulled by a modern Railpool-locomotive (185 696) but the second one was really a highlight: an old DB-locomotive in a new blue PRESS-jacket with a train from Ústí nad Labem-Střekov to Dresden-Friedrichstadt;

Out of Denver, Colorado on September 20th, 1989, aboard the "California Zephyr", I had taken my "special seat" as I always did when possible. I was shooting quite a bit of video by this time and the videocamera was certainly getting more love than the 35mm. However as we began the climb over the Front Range, scanner chatter revealed we would be passing a westbound freight holding at Big Ten Siding. Hmmm, what should I do, video or photo? (rd)
If I remember well, in my White Angel Youtube channel, there must be a video I turned last year with HER performing her winning song "Il mondo non cambia mai". The montage has been wierd as a photographer kept passing in front of my videocamera but the acoustics is pristine.

I've had a documentary brewing in my mind for really long time. It takes a lot of dedication and work to put one together. I have some obstacles, but I think it is an attainable goal. The subject matter is a secret for now because I think my idea is kind of a good one. I woke up this morning and overcaffinated myself, so now I'm bounding with ideas I can't contain. If someone does this movie before me I will be kicking myself. Oh, but the obstacles I have before me are tough.... ack, what to do what to do.
This past weekend there were photographers at Pershing Square and at the Long Beach Pier trying to raise awareness about photographers rights. Check out what happened to the photographers in Long Beach here and here.

I just got a new Blackberry 8900 and I am in love! It's the best device!!! The 3.2 mp camera/videocamera with flash isn't quite what I had hoped for. But I still love it.
And for those of you paying attention, I dyed my hair blonde and highlighted it. ;)

Filmpje van deze trein / Little movie of this train
Bij de kerstperiode zijn de Duitse kerstmarkten natuurlijk niet weg te denken. En als het TSP dan in het weekend van 13 en 14 december een kersttrein naar Aachen organiseert, konden Steven en ik die doortocht van de Kersttrein natuurlijk niet links laten liggen.
Op zaterdag werd er door Vlaanderen gereden en op zondag was Wallonië dan aan de beurt. En zo klikten twee fototoestellen en mijn videocamera in een onverwacht zonnige vallei van de Samber de trein met aan kop de 186 215 van Railtraxx. Achterop hielp de 186 216 nog een handje mee om de sleep I6 en I10-rijtuigen en het SR3 Bar-Disco rijtuig mooi op tijd naar Aachen te brengen.
Met deze foto wens ik jullie allen alvast een fijne kerstperiode en een zalige Kerst in de warmte van jullie familie.

The German Christmas markets are, of course, an essential part of the Christmas season. And when the TSP organizes a Christmas train to Aachen on the weekend of December 13th and 14th, Steven and I couldn't miss the Christmas train's passage.
On Saturday, the train traveled through Flanders, and on Sunday, it was Wallonia's turn. And so, two cameras and my video camera clicked in an unexpectedly sunny Sambre valley, the train led by Railtraxx 186 215. Behind, 186 216 helped out to bring the I6 and I10 carriages and the SR3 Bar-Disco carriage to Aachen on time.
With this photo I wish you all a Merry Christmas in the warmth of your family.

She was he, now she is Her: musician, violinist, composer, singer, performer, theatre actress ... I met her in 2020, before she sung second time and asked her to pose for me. When I first listened to her song "The world never changes / Il mondo non cambia mai" I decided, I like HER!!
She accepted to pose for my shooting. 45 minutes later she won the contest :-)
Every year I choose an artist to portray outside the stage, In the last 4 years I always guessed the winners. Eventually I am not a juror of the contest commitee but just a voluteer unofficial stage photographer. Andrea Artusi aka Artax is the official one. Luckily we work in harmony and he behaves rather well, but, when I turn videos,he always passes by few times covering my videocamera :-( I forgive him, he is too simpathetic!
HER has been invited in the contest of July 2021 too and has posed for me again telling me I brought her fortune, lol.
So, more pics of her are yet to come in the next few weeks or, at least, within the end of this year.

Op maandagmiddag 16 juni kreeg ik van een bevriend treinspotter een berichtje (waarvoor dank 🍻) met de info dat RAILTRAXX diezelfde avond rond 20u vanuit La Louvière naar Antwerpen zou sporen. Mijn interesse was onmiddellijk gewekt want deze cargo (als de trein al rijdt) kan je eigenlijk alleen rond de langste dagen van het jaar spotten. Er werd dan ook met de wederhelft even besproken hoe we het avondeten gingen aanpakken maar na wat gepuzzel waren we er thuis wel uit - voor een keertje ging mijn vrouw eens achter de kookpotten staan 😋
Ik vertrok dan ook rond 19u (tja... het moment dus dat ik normaal achter het fornuis sta) en kwam rond 19u20 in Hennuyères... waar al een auto stond. Van wat verderaf dacht ik in eerste instantie dat het Pieter DS was maar hé... dichterbij zag ik dat het een Nederlandse nummerplaat was (en Pieter is bij mijn weten nog altijd Belg 😄). Rens was een aantal dagen in België en had deze cargo ook hoog op het verlanglijstje staan (hopelijk is hij ondertussen wel van die verkoudheid verlost?).
Rens had tijdens het wachten wat gesnoeid en rond 20u24 (voorziene doortocht in Hennuyères) begon de spanning dan te stijgen - zouden we de ladder in het midden van de straat kunnen plaatsen of zou een auto roet in het eten gooien? Toen de cargo uit de bocht kwam, was er gelukkig geen auto te bespeuren dus konden zowel mijn fototoestel als dat van Rens en ook mijn videocamera zonder storen hun ding doen.

Zoals ik eerder al vermeldde, leerde Duncan McEvoy me tijdens onze gezellige babbel op woensdag 9 mei nog een extra spotplekje kennen.
Reden genoeg dus om dit plekje een weekje later - het weer bleef maar heerlijk zomers zonnig - te gaan verkennen. En ook nu was ik niet alleen op pad want ook Joris De Mol had de weg naar Hennuyères gevonden ;-)
Nadat we hier eerst een klein uurtje samen op de trein hadden gewacht, trok ik - nu het uur van doortocht steeds dichterbij kwam - eventjes naar dit nieuwe punt! Zo hadden we enerzijds niet dezelfde foto van deze - halve - ballasttrein maar kon ik Joris anderzijds nog snel een berichtje sturen zodat hij op tijd zijn videocamera kon aanzetten ;-)

Thanks to Duncan McEvoy, I found this new view on Hennuyères.
So, one week after I met Duncan in Hennuyères, I again was in Hennuyères to take a picture of the same freight train on this new spotting place. Unlike previous times, it was only half a train on its way to France!

I accidentally walked into the frame of this guy shooting music video in downtown Pittsburgh. I'm sure he's a very nice photographer but he wasn't really happy with me at that moment but I got a great action photo.

Ik had afgelopen week te horen gekregen dat NSM met hun Mat'64 op pad ging. Alleen er was nog 1 hindernis, ik moest natuurlijk nog wel even slagen voor mijn school. Donderdag middag kreeg ik dan het verlossende woord, jawel geslaagd! Nu mag ik volgend jaar elke dag op en neer naar Tilburg voor de opleiding Medewerker Events. Maar goed terug naar het plan voor deze dag.
Ik had samen met Lars besloten om het in de regio Limburg te zoeken. De enige zekere stek dat was Roermond.
De dag zelf was eenmaal aangebroken. Nachtrust lukte maar niet maar toch viel ik net na 2:00 in slaap, 5:30 ging keurig de wekker. Maar wat er daarna gebeurde geen idee, ik werd ineens wakker van het gemiauw van de kat des huize. De 1e 2 treinen had ik al gemist. Snel de douche in gesprongen en op naar het station.
Daar kwam IC 3624 al binnen rijden, deze bracht mij naar Tilburg, daar stapte ik over op de 5200 naar Eindhoven, hier hoopte ik op de 1 minuut aansluiting naar Heerlen, gelukkig. Hij lukte, na vertrek in Heerlen werd er aandachtig gekeken naar stekken. Na het vertrek uit Klimmen-Ransdaal zagen we dit stekje, dus dat was het idee dan maar.
Na het rondje heuvelland gingen we door naar Roermond. Hier klikte wij de heenrit naar Maastricht, na een iets langere stop in Maastricht gingen wij verder naar Ransdaal, daar hadden we niet heel lang. Helaas kwam het met bakken uit de lucht.
Ik besloot om half op het bord te klimmen "Padum Pats'' voor een wat ander standpunt. Toen ik net mijn videocamera had klaar gezet sloot de overweg.
De Mat'64 kwam de bocht om, snel het bord op geklommen en de foto gemaakt.
Hierna werd er nog 1 stek bezocht, maar die foto zal ter zijne tijd wel verschijnen op de sociale kanalen.

Op woensdag 13 december kreeg ik van mijn broer een bericht doorgestuurd dat er een E4001 van CAPTRAIN France in Lessines klaar stond voor een losse rit naar Halle. Het berichtje zelf kwam van een - voor mij - bekende machinist en dus stuurde ik snel de vraag of die rit vanuit Lessines via L94 zou gaan. Het antwoord was positief en dus sprong ik met fototoestel en videocamera in de auto voor de korte rit naar het landelijke Beert.
Bedoeling van dit tripje was trouwens opleiding van de machinisten. CAPTRAIN France zal (in samenwerking met Railtraxx) namelijk vanaf 8 januari 2024 de steenslagtreinen vanuit Lessines naar verschillende bestemmingen in Frankrijk overnemen van Europorte. En dus zal er op die trafiek vanaf 8 januari geen €4000 van Europorte meer te zien zijn maar dus wel een €4001 van CAPTRAIN.
Na deze foto in Beert (dat ik als eerste plek koos omdat hier in principe nooit (of toch heel weinig) "exotische locs en treinen te zien zijn) begon ik nog aan de achtervolging want de loc zou in Halle keren en via L96 naar Jurbise sporen om daar opnieuw te keren en via L90 naar Ath en uiteindelijk Lessines te rijden. De achtervolging draaide echter op een sisser uit: in Hennuyères was ik net te laat (de loc was supersnel gekeerd in Halle) en op L90 heb ik, samen met Wim en Ruben, vanaf 14u15 anderhalf uur staan wachten op de doortocht van de loc maar door een 'overweg in groot alarm' was het complete treinverkeer gedurende meer dan 3u onderbroken! Uiteindelijk meldde de machinist me dat hij pas om 17u10 vanuit Ath mocht vertrekken naar Lessines... maar toen was het licht al lang uit natuurlijk!

E4001-3975 of CAPTRAIN France, build by Stadler, is seen in Beert. The locomotive made a trip from Lessines to Halle for the training of the train drivers for reason that CAPTRAIN France will take over the trains from the quarry in Lessines to several destinations in France - nowadays driven by Europorte - as from January 8, 2024.

Lovely school girls I met on the street of Bangkok near the Benjasini Park. I loved their cute school uniforms, I had to stop them for a picture, they did not understood English but sign language was no problem, all I did was touch my clothes and point at them and thumb up!
Zojuist kwam hier de Strukton G1206 303008 "Danique" in een zalig ochtendzonnetje voorbij, met voor- en achterop een videocamera gemonteerd (update: dit systeem heet RILA - rail infrastructure alignment acquisition platform). Wie weet hebben ze nu dan ook wel beelden van mij.......

Van de ene werktrein naar de andere... al ziet die er dan wel volledig anders uit!
Op dinsdag 2 juli kreeg ik van Finn namelijk een berichtje (waarvoor dank 🙏) dat hij op woensdag 3 juli met een werktrein voor rekening van TUC-Rail van Antwerpen-D.S.-Berendrecht naar Monceau zou sporen. En dat liet ik me geen twee keer zeggen en al helemaal omdat hij ook al op maandag 1 juli met een treintje in mijn thuisregio onderweg was (maar ik die info jammer genoeg te laat las... tja, vakantie en uitslapen 😴).
Met een doortocht rond 9u in Hennuyères stond ik woensdag wel degelijk paraat langs de spoorlijn. Terwijl ik op Finn wachtte, knabbelde ik mijn ontbijt en stopte er plots een auto naast mij met daarin een oud-cursiste (ik werk in het volwassenenonderwijs) en zo werd de wachttijd met een gezellige babbel opgevuld.
Aangezien het altijd fijn is om Finn te treffen, stond ook mijn videocamera paraat voor de nodige toeters en bellen - zet het volume dus maar goed open want half Hennuyères was hiermee ook weeral wakker 😆😂! Onder een grijze hemel en net voor het eerste gedruppel van de dag passeert Finn met een waar "broltreintje" (eigen woorden van Finn 😇) aan een gezapig tempo in de bekende S-bocht van Hennuyères.
[M] Een auto is digitaal verwijderd maar is natuurlijk wel te zien in het filmpje 😉.

Brig "Pilgrim"

This is a composite commemoration for the tall ship replica, Pilgrim, which has been anchored in Dana Point harbor since 1981, The replica ship, converted to the brig Pilgrim from a three masted schooner replica originally built in 1945, took on water a few weeks ago, and sank in place.
So far, efforts to right her have failed. The ship is a staple of the Dana Point harbor. The original Pilgrim, which sank in 1856, was the ship Richard Henry Dana, for whom Dana Point is named, wrote about in the classic account of a sea voyage between Massachusetts and California in the book "Two Years Before the Mast".
That book originally stoked my own love of the sea and tall ships, and hopefully someday I will be able to sail on one, if only on a cruise.
This photo is a composite. I spent a couple of hours this morning painting in the sky, which is from a photo I took in San Pedro in March of 2017. I tried to add a layer of reflected clouds in the water, but with so much reflected, I had to slide opacity down pretty low. and by the time I'd erased the reflected clouds layer from all the reflections of the dock posts and boats, not too many 'reflected" clouds can even be seen.
The photo of the ship is noteworthy because it was taken only an hour or so before I was standing on the breakwater when the errant wave snuck up behind, me splashing my Rebel t5i and my Panasonic videocamera, ruining both of them.
The Pilgrim replica has a long history in Dana Point, and was used by the school system for many field trips. It also was used as a training vessel for potential sailors, as are the Exy and Irving Johnson, docked near where I live in the L.A. Harbor.
