Een vaste waarde op de Athus-Meuse was de dagelijkse ketelwagentrein tussen Feluy en Luxemburg. Soms werd die gesleept door een "gemend dubbeltje", zoals hier te zien.

Cette vaste esplanade se trouve cœur de la vieille ville de Stuttgart, capitale du Land de Bade-Wurtemberg, en Allemagne.
La place, fermée à l’est par le Neue Schloss et à l'ouest par le Königsbau néo-classique (1856-60), est décorée par la colonne Jubiläumssäule, installée en son centre à l’occasion du jubilé des 25 ans de règne de Guillaume Ier de Wurtemberg (1816-1864), par un joli kiosque à musique en fer forgé et par d'élégantes fontaines. En ce samedi, la place était très animée et se préparait pour un spectacle dans le cadre de son festival Jazz Open.
En arrière-plan, on entrevoit d'ailleurs l’immense palais Neue Schloss, construit entre 1746 et 1807, dont la façade associe des éléments baroques et néo-classiques.
Stuttgart est née au 10e siècle près d'un haras baptisé Stutengarten "Jardin des Juments" dont elle tire son nom et doit son essor à la maison de Wurtemberg qui en fit sa capitale comtale (1321), puis ducale (1495) et enfin royale (1806).
Ville réputée pour son industrie automobile (Mercedes, Porsche…), elle est en pleine métamorphose. Elle quitte le cocon tissé par les voies urbaines dans le centre-ville pour laisser plus de place aux piétons et renouer avec les collines boisées et couvertes de vignobles qui l’entourent. Ville d’architectes, elle témoigne de tous les styles du 20e siècle et ses dernières créations, dont le cubique et transparent musée d’Art, renouvellent l’image de la capitale du Land de Bade-Wurtemberg. Avec l’arrivée du TGV, la voilà maintenant à moins de 4h de Paris.

The Sossusvlei area in Namibia's Namib Desert is characterized by high sand dunes of vivid pink-to-orange color, an indication of a high concentration of iron in the sand and consequent oxidation processes. These dunes are among the highest in the world, the highest being the one nicknamed Big Daddy, about 380 metres high. I took the photo on the way up to Big Daddy which is outside the picture up towards the right.

Anita and I "discovered" this very awesome garden center on the outskirts of Winchester Virginia. It had a vast amount of potted plants, garden plants and you name it whatever! But it Also had a large pond inside that contained turtles and koi and several cages of large birds! There were benches conveniently placed and all were surrounded by different types of plants, some flowering. Outside there were about 4 ponds, some with fountains, some with tiny waterfalls such as this one. There were also outdoor bird cages and we were told that many of the large birds and koi were moved to these areas in the warmer weather. We have plans to take my grandbaby back when it warms up. She will Love it. The Koi? I suggested to Anita that she put a finger in the water and the Koi would come up and nibble it. She was chicken! So she dared me to and of course I did and got a tickly little nibble as a result. Anita probably didn't know that when growing up and playing in a large farm pond, it was common to stand still so the minnows would come and nibble at our toenails! Anita didn't stay to see the whole of the outdoor plants etc but instead rushed her freezing self back to the car where the heat was turned up full blast! A true Southern Girl! Vanaf april 2021 heeft GVT Intermodal alle treinen van en naar het Poolse Rzepin uitbesteed aan VTG Retrack. Eerder, vanaf november 2020, ondersteunt Retrack met een extra omloop naast de vaste omloop van LTE. RRF stelt het personeel en licentie voor Retrack en verkiest de route over Emmerich in plaats van Bad Bentheim.
Onder prettige weersomstandigheden brengt de nog kale 189 211 een intermodale trein, die zowel opleggers als 45 voet containers bevat, van Rzepin naar Tilburg Industrie. Angeren, zondag 25 april 2021, 15:29.
Na EC196 volgde snel de Alex 84132 uit München. Door de drie wagens is deze trein korter dan de EC en daardoor op sommige plekken wat beter van opzij vast te leggen. Zo ook hier als de trein bijna Lindau heeft bereikt.

La Guadeloupe n'est pas qu'une carte postale de cocotiers couchés sur une plage. C'est aussi une vaste zone agricole et on y trouve de beaux endroits de campagne.
Il y a a aussi du bétail avec des vaches ou bœufs locaux qui semblent parfois un peu maigrichons comparés a nos vaches de métropole. Il faut dire qu'ici on les trouve souvent sur des bord de routes ou des pâtures sans clôture, attachés a des piquets par une longe ou même pouvant se déplacer librement.
Mais il arrive de tomber sur des bêtes bodybuildés.
Ces taureaux , qui avant l'arrivée des tracteurs servaient au labourage ou emmenaient la canne a sucre des champs jusqu'aux distilleries, se confrontent lors de concours traditionnels guadeloupéens.
Les concours de boeufs tirants sont à la fois des activités de loisirs, un sport et une compétition qui cache de nombreuses heures d’entraînement.
Il s’agit de faire avancer des boeufs qui tirent une charrette lesté sur un flanc de colline. Cela suppose une forte complicité entre le maitre et ses bêtes mais aussi un lourd travail en amont. Les compétitions de bœufs-tirants opposent généralement des attelages de 2 animaux avec un chronométrage du temps de parcours réalisé. Les règles imposées sont strictes puisque le maitre n’a pas la droit de donner plus de 12 coups de fouets et que le parcours est identique pour tous les attelages qui participent au concours.
C’est sur l’île de Marie Galante que serait né ce type de concours sur un parcours de 90 mètres avec un juge-arbitre présent pour s’assurer du bon déroulement de l’épreuve. Le poids tiré par les animaux est en moyenne de 1700 kilos et cela réalisé à flanc de colline, autant dire que la tâche est des plus pénibles. Les concours se déroulent en règle générale à la fin de la saison cannière, de juillet à février et ils remportent toujours un énorme succès. (source: guadeloupe.net/boeufs-tirants)

Único y magnífico, el Acueducto de Segovia es una de las más soberbias obras que los romanos dejaron repartidas por su vasto imperio. Fue construido para conducir hasta Segovia el agua de la Sierra, es símbolo heráldico de la ciudad y su construcción fue atribuida al diablo por la leyenda.
Las hipótesis apuntan al siglo I en la época de los Flavios, y también a la época de Nerva o Trajano. La imposibilidad de datación exacta no impide que encabece la clasificación de mejores obras de ingeniería civil en España. Sus 167 arcos de piedra granítica del Guadarrama están constituidos por sillares unidos sin ningún tipo de argamasa mediante un ingenioso equilibrio de fuerzas. Obra extraordinaria, en la que la utilidad convive con la armonía y la belleza, ha prestado servicio a la ciudad hasta fechas recientes. A través de los siglos, apenas ha sufrido modificaciones.
Sólo durante el ataque contra Segovia dirigido en 1072 por el musulmán Al-Mamún de Toledo sufrieron deterioro 36 arcos; los daños fueron restaurados en el siglo XV por Fray Juan de Escobedo, monje del Parral. Desde antiguo, existen dos hornacinas que probablemente protegían a dioses paganos, sustituidas en tiempo de los Reyes Católicos por las imágenes de San Sebastián y de la Virgen. Bajo las hornacinas existió una leyenda en letras de bronce, relativas a la fundación del puente, de la que hoy sólo queda el rastro de la inscripción.

The species has a very loud explosive call described as a "raucous high-pitched screech, with a subdued musical tuk-tuk". It is particularly noisy during the breeding season. Despite being clumsy in flight it can fly long distances, and it is a good swimmer, especially for a bird without webbed feet. Pairs nest in a large pad of interwoven reed flags, on a mass of floating debris or among matted reeds slightly above water level in swamps, clumps of rushes in paddocks or long unkempt grass. The Purple Swamphen prefers wet areas with high rainfall, swamps, lake edges and damp pastures. The birds often live in pairs and larger communities. It clambers through the reeds, eating the tender shoots and vegetable-like matter. They have been known to eat eggs, ducklings, small fish and invertebrates such as snails. They will often use one foot to bring food to their mouth rather than eat it on the ground. Where they are not persecuted, they can become tame and be readily seen in towns and cities. Very colorful in the sunlight.
Evidence from Pliny the Elder and other sources shows that the Romans kept Purple Swamphens as decorative birds at large villas and expensive houses. They were regarded as noble birds and were among the few birds that Romans did not eat.

It was near Pavia that I had to stop the car to capture this image of a solitary holm oak surrounded by vast green fields. Later, on other trips through my beloved Alentejo, I realized that images like this one were repeated and taught me this simple and enigmatic truth: there are trees, fields and sky and people looking at them. The holm oak is one of the two most characteristic trees of the Alentejo, and it also exists in other regions of Portugal and the Mediterranean basin. Its fruit, the acorn, is used by pigs to feed themselves. Holm oak firewood is excellent and burns slowly.
Foi perto de Pavia que tive de parar o carro para captar esta imagem de uma azinheira solitária rodeada de vastos campos verdes. Posteriormente, noutras viagens pelo meu Alentejo adorado, apercebi-me de que imagens como esta se repetem e me ensinam esta verdade simples e enigmática: há árvores, campos e céu e pessoas que os olham.
A azinheira é uma das duas árvores mais características do Alentejo, existindo também noutras regiões de Portugal e da bacia mediterrânica. Com o seu fruto, a bolota, alimentam-se porcos. A lenha de azinho é excelente, ardendo devagar.

Situato fra le regioni del Barigadu e il Guilcier, il lago Omodeo è stato per lungo tempo il più vasto bacino artificiale d’Europa. Ha preso il nome dall’Ingegnere Angelo Omodeo, che l’ha progettato e costruito nel 1924. Il lago ha una lunghezza di 20 chilometri ed è circondato da selvagge montagne, altopiani basaltici e complessi naturalistici e archeologici di eccezionale importanza.
Proprio su questi monti di Tadasuni è sita la necropoli rupestre di Is Perderas (V. nell'album "Domus de Janas, le grotte magiche"i).

Wind turbines ahead of a vast area of peat bog close to our new home in north Kerry, although this location is actually in Limerick so close are we to the border. Looking for a suitable place to walk my dog Willow I came across this track recently not knowing if there was anything worth pointing my camera at - the light yesterday was enough reason on its own and so this hastily arranged composition was born. In my mind's eye I can also see the scene in snow (assuming we get snow in these parts) - but that's for later. Or perhaps not much later! The 'Burma Road' title was given to me by a pub landlord (O'Shaughnessys) from the nearby coastal village of Glin who also shared other local history snippets over a delicious pint of Guinness in his wonderful bar the other day. It was all work of course!
