This picture of a Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet approaching the sound barrier at the 2011 Atlantic City Air Show. At transonic speeds, intense low-pressure areas form at various points around the fighter jet. If the conditions are correct, visible areas of vapor or clouds will form. This is called Prandtl-Glauert singularities.

Walking in the woods next to the famous Snoqualmie Falls in Seattle, the air was full of water vapor and mist, and sun was just above us. When I was walking long the trail, and suddenly I
turned my head and saw this dramatic light breaking through the woods.

Scenes like this, us landscape photographers live for moments when there is a dramatic sky with an interesting foreground. Colors are out of control, sun rays, etc.
But scenes like this last but a vapor, when you think about it in a grander scheme; what is 3 minutes over the course of a year? 20 years? It's insignificant. Easily forgotten. New memories are stacked on top until those old memories fade away or disappear like a vapor of breath on a cold winter day.
I would argue about the importance of photography here, capturing the moments that we might otherwise forget. Like when a childhood photo get shown, you probably don't remember THAT exact moment but you see a photo of yourself and know it happened. Keep taking those billions of photos for your child/dog/cat/etc because you won't remember someday until you see an old photo. I'll probably forget this sunset but in the meantime, I'll savor it as one of those few times when everything came together and I was there to witness it.
Day 44 [2-13-2016]
Sick and cold. I woke up this morning feeling like death. I have come down with a horrible flue that has been going around the cottage. My body aches so it is impossible to get comfortable in any position and I am in a constant state of light-headedness. I was able to make it down to the store today to pick up some medicine and grape juice. Welches 100% grape juice no sugar added. So good. On my way to the grocery store I passed by the lake which had beautiful vapor clouds skimming across the surface of the water. With my friends in the car with me, we pulled off to the side and got out to document the event. This town seeks to amaze me.
Can't wait to see what the next day brings!
