Cirrus is an atmospheric cloud generally characterized by thin, wispy strands, giving the type its name from the Latin word cirrus meaning a ringlet or curling lock of hair.
It forms when water vapor undergoes deposition at altitudes above 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in temperate regions and above 6,100 m (20,000 ft) in tropical regions.
Cirrus cloud ranges in thickness from 100 m (330 ft) to 8,000 m (26,000 ft)
Contrails are a manmade type of cirrus cloud formed when water vapor from the exhaust of a jet engine condenses on particles, which come from either the surrounding air or the exhaust itself, and freezes, leaving behind a visible trail. The exhaust can also trigger the formation of cirrus by providing ice nuclei when there is an insufficient naturally-occurring supply in the atmosphere.

Siendo hoy el aniversario del primer ferrocarril peninsular, y también del primer ferrocarril portugués, he querido rememorar tal hecho subiendo esta fotografía.
En ella, aparece la locomotora Nº 14 del ferrocarril minero de Riotinto, construida por Beyer & Peacock en 1875, siendo la locomotora más antigua de España en funcionamiento, saliendo de Zarandas-Naya con el tren turístico minero hacia Talleres Mina. Lástima que abriesen el regulador de la máquina cuando terminé la ráfaga...
Saludos al maquinista y al fogonero, y a los viajeros del tren.
La locomotora de vapor N°1 "Arganda" de la CIFVM entra en la estación de La Poveda con la composición del "Tren de las Maquetas" (furgón F5 procedente del ferrocarril Ponferrada-Villablino y vagón de bordes medios Ow-640 procedente del ferrocarril del Tajuña) junto al tractor B-DH procedente de Porland Valderribas acoplado al vagón cisterna F7 mientras a lo lejos el tractor B-DM maniobra para acoplar la composición del Tren de Arganda y salir hacia Laguna del Campillo
