Spotlight Session: No One Left Behind: Bridging Digital Divides and Education Inequities
Technology enables connection, education, health, and economic growth—but not for everyone. The divide between those who have access to technology and quality education and those who don’t remains a global challenge and has potential to widen further with increasing natural disasters and conflicts, and as advances in AI impact workforces around the globe. Extending access to technology and digital upskilling on the continent of Africa, where a rapidly growing youth population must be able to participate fully in the economy and society, is particularly urgent. This session will explore innovative solutions and strategies for bridging the digital divide and addressing education inequities, especially in underserved communities. Addressing these challenges will require concerted efforts from governments, businesses, non-profit organizations, and communities, so we can all reap the benefits of unlocking technology’s full potential to empower individuals, reduce poverty, promote social inclusion, and foster innovation. The future of a green energy economy depends on infrastructure, and the creation of infrastructure depends on
people and their labor. For a green workforce to thrive, we’ll need to create the conditions for prosperous
employment, a safe working environment and the protection of worker rights.
• What measures must we take to build an economy which tackles the climate crisis as well as economic,
gender, and racial disparity?
• How do we deliver on the promise of green jobs and upskill and empower the global workforce?
• How can we ensure the twin promises of economic growth and environmental protection to keep people and
workers onside for the green transition?

The Ontario government is investing $2 million through the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Training Stream to support the Pearson Works training project at Toronto Pearson International Airport. This investment will help recruit, train and upskill 450 workers for in-demand jobs in hospitality, ramp and baggage handling, safety and security, general labour and customer service, with direct connections to employers to support clear pathways to employment.

Le gouvernement de l’Ontario investit 2 millions de dollars dans le projet de formation « Pearson au travail » à l’Aéroport international Toronto Pearson par l’entremise du volet Formation du Fonds pour le développement des compétences (FDC). Cet investissement permettra de recruter, de former et de perfectionner 450 travailleurs pour des emplois en forte demande dans les secteurs de l’accueil, de la manutention au sol et des bagages, de la sécurité, du travail général et du service à la clientèle, en établissant des liens directs avec les employeurs pour faciliter l’accès à l’emploi.
