The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) presented a Skills Development Fund grant on August 10, 2023, totaling $132,794.00 to Texas Southmost College who partnered with Rich Products Corporation to upskill 131 employees with industry relevant training like programmable logic controllers, electronics, forklifts, total project management, welding, and more.

Spotlight Session: No One Left Behind: Bridging Digital Divides and Education Inequities
Technology enables connection, education, health, and economic growth—but not for everyone. The divide between those who have access to technology and quality education and those who don’t remains a global challenge and has potential to widen further with increasing natural disasters and conflicts, and as advances in AI impact workforces around the globe. Extending access to technology and digital upskilling on the continent of Africa, where a rapidly growing youth population must be able to participate fully in the economy and society, is particularly urgent. This session will explore innovative solutions and strategies for bridging the digital divide and addressing education inequities, especially in underserved communities. Addressing these challenges will require concerted efforts from governments, businesses, non-profit organizations, and communities, so we can all reap the benefits of unlocking technology’s full potential to empower individuals, reduce poverty, promote social inclusion, and foster innovation. Children & Youth Affairs Minister James Reilly publishes major report on childcare
Minister for Children and Youth Affairs James Reilly has today published a major report which proposes how best to invest in childcare services over the coming years.
The report puts forward options to enhance affordability for parents, improve the quality of services and outcomes for children, and promote greater accessibility in the sector.
Commenting on the report, Minister Reilly said:
Affordability, quality and accessibility are the big concerns for us all. This document offers a clear vision for future investment in early years and school-age services. It represents the most ambitious, detailed and costed plan for childcare ever produced by Government, and it follows a period of very productive consultation with parents, providers and the general public.
Some of the key recommendations in the report include:
A longer period of parental leave to enhance outcomes in the first year of a child’s life;
An enhanced ECCE provision (currently the ‘free pre-school year’) which would be extended to the point at which primary school starts;
and
A new, single subsidy scheme for pre-school and school-going children with simplified eligibility based on income.
At today’s launch Minister Reilly said:
I am pleased that the Group has looked in depth at the international evidence. It has pointed to the shortfalls in the current provision in Ireland and has put forward costed options which can be of real benefit to children, parents, families and society. As the economy improves, we now have opportunity for strategic investment that will help achieve better outcomes for children, offer greater supports to parents, improve quality, and upskill the sector.
