Day 5 - Listening to Voices

Embody e-course

It is easy to drown out the inner critic voice these days with the distractions of technology, but that same technology can also drown out the voice of the creative Muse, unplug for a while and listen to what she has to say.

This is a Geek Blender ;)

Reset method: "If appliance Stops Functioning, please Unplug, wait 30 Secs and Plug in again"

------------

Our Panasonic SD255 breadmaker is the best of the three we have owned. However it (?) suddenly stopped producing properly-risen bread after about three years’ use. I replaced the thermostat and now all seems OK. I bought my thermostat from Charles Hyde and Sons Ltd (Part number ADA11-145) and it cost less than £20 including shipping.

Here’s how to do it: Unplug the machine before you start! Keep all the screws you remove, making sure you know which ones go where.

Unplug and just listen to nature

Managed to persuade him to unplug his nose and open his eyes underwater.

All the wiring for the water pump unplugs. The hoses unscrew so it's quite simpler to remove. Just three screws in the floor (which with my floor did nothing).

South America’s First Luxury Sleeper Train

From May 2017, the Belmond Andean Explorer will operate along one of the world’s highest rail routes in the Peruvian Andes; some of the most breath-taking scenery in the world.

From Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire—traversing the highest plains of the Andes—to the reflective beauty of Lake Titicaca. Take the opportunity to explore the vast Colca Canyon then continue towards the city centre of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage site (or in reverse).

The new train will have capacity for 68 guests in a range of en-suite cabins including two double cabins, 20 twin cabins and 12 bunk-bed style cabins for two people.

There will also be two dining cars, a lounge car and an observation car with an open-air deck for scenic viewing.

Travelling through some of the most breath-taking scenery in the world, Belmond Andean Explorer is designed to connect guests with the abundant nature of the Peruvian Andes. Interior designs, by Inge Moore of The Gallery HBA, are inspired by the texture of Peru’s hand-woven fabrics and the soft tones of the Alpaca wool blended with Andean slate greys create a sense of calm enabling guests to unplug, relax and enjoy the journey.

A selection of four journeys include ‘Peruvian Highlands’, a two night, three day journey departing from Cusco, the capital of the ancient Inca Empire travelling across the highest plains of the Andes reaching 4800 metres in altitude, to Puno where guests can visit the remote villages and floating islands on Lake Titicaca and then onwards to the city centre of Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site – highlights of this journey include a chance to explore the vast Colca Canyon, the dramatic realm of the condor. Or, the ‘Spirit of the Andes’ journey traverses the Altiplano from Lake Titicaca to Cusco, for an overnight escape.

Prices start from $462pp (£320pp) for the one-night ‘Spirit of the Andes’ journey, including all meals, open bar and excursions.

Cabins

Discover true relaxation as you step into your own personal sanctuary. Cabins come in suite/double, twin and bunk bed configurations, each with its own en-suite and shower.

Lounge Car

Invite new friends to gather around the baby grand piano and relax in comfortable seating as majestic vistas drift past outside. Share a lively story from the day’s adventures and enjoy a refreshing drink from the bar.

Two Dining Cars

Serving fresh, colourful and seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients from the Peruvian Andes in the elegant dining carriages. Menus are skilfully designed by our chefs from Belmond Hotel Monasterio, Cusco.

Observation Car

The place to unwind, meet new friends and enjoy the views whilst sipping a Pisco Sour from the bar. Breathe in the Andean air from the open deck of the Observation Car as the train travels through the ever-changing landscape.

As a culture, we have found ourselves entwined with the exponential growth of technology. Our everyday lives are entangled with the necessity for electronic machines, digital devices, chiming alerts, charging ports, LED screens and high speed connectivity.

This summer, we are extending the invitation for you to come unplug with us.

For three days and two nights, we will power down the communication devices and engage in conversation without texting. We will eat meals by the fire and connect socially without the social network. We will appreciate nature in its true form: up close and personal, without the pixels.

We welcome you to our tribal village.

my diet will consist of nothing but seafood, butter, and beer for the next week. yeehaw!

I have busy days, and then I have insane days, and then I have “pure insanity” days. Today was worse than a pure insanity day.

Today just seemed like I was finishing one task and five more came in, while having questions on different projects were rolling on in, and phone calls from this person and that department… it was just crazy.

All that being said, that does not equate to not loving my job or my company. I love them both. But I know I am ready to step away and unplug / unwind for a time. I think more than ever before I really need this!

Theme: Devoid Of Color

Year Ten Of My 365 Project

New singing Rapunzel doll being deboxed. She is identical to last year's Singing Rapunzel, except that she sings 'I See the Light' instead of 'Healing Incantation', and the packaging is different. The Try Me feature is activated by opening the lid, and she sings 10 seconds of the song. To debox her, you have to open the bottom first, so you can unplug the Try Me wire from the front lid. Then you can lift the inner box (to which the doll is attached) from the outer box. She is attached to the inner box and plastic supports by wires, tiny T-tabs and rubber bands.

After the Try Me wire is unplugged from the back of the doll, she can now sing the 45 seconds of 'I See the Light' by sliding the lantern on her right hand. The lantern and plastic flowers in her hair light up while she sings.

I got the singing Rapunzel doll last Friday (July 22, 2016) from the Disney Store, that I ordered during the Friends and Family sale. I have yet to see her in stores (as of July 31, 2016).

Even though I'm not thrilled with the look of the new Rapunzel's box, the Try Me mechanism is rather neat. You first enable the Try Me switch by pulling a long plastic tab in the back. Then there is a switch attached to the hinge of the front cover, which is activated when you close then open the lid far enough. It will cause Rapunzel to sing about 10 seconds of I See the Light, and light up the lantern she is holding and flowers in her hair. I will post more detailed photos of Rapunzel when I debox her. I still have not seen her in stores yet. And the new singing Belle doll is nowhere to be found, either in stores or online.

Now I have singing rapunzel dolls with three different songs. ''When Will My Life Begin'' (2011 - 2014), ''Healing Incantation'' (2015) and now ''I See the Light'' (2016). I wish that other of the Disney singing dolls would have such a variation in their songs.

The fact that all sides are covered by cardboard (except for the oval plastic window in front), makes the box very sturdy. In particular, all the edges and corners are really stiff, so resist damage during shipping. My doll's box came in perfect shape, which I can't say for most of the doll boxes I order from the Disney Store. The box wasn't packed any better than usual (a few airbags on the bottom of the shipping carton), but the sturdiness of the doll's box made the difference. Also this box is much thicker (deeper) than previous singing doll boxes, and even LE doll boxes, so leaves lots of room to position the doll nicely. The new construction also means the boxed doll is bulkier and heavier than previous singing dolls, so may be more costly to ship.

Make a note of which wire goes where. May be an idea to label if you're not too good on the memory front. I took photos of everthing with the mobile camera as a visual reference. A picture's worth a thousand words as they say!

It’s a sugar coated version of XP that conflicts with my video editing programs. Microsoft has made it harder to move files with no “move” feature. They have taken away the windows picture viewer and gif images don’t work without extra software.

The switch to box wouldn't let me switch mto moizilla on a download for an upgrade to snagit.

4/5/2009 12:19:52 AM

7 crashed while saving a word project and going to open a photo.

Windows 7 does not like my logitech webcam.

4/18/2009 1:47:39 AM

4/19/2009 9:46:20 PM

7 can feel me closing it down. it crashed as i copy program files so I can downgrade to vista.

shaneksmith1957@gmail.com

Installing windows 7 signature edition on 32 bit and 64 bit. I had to wipe the 32 bit because 7 wouldn’t recognize windows 7 RC. Install of fresh 7 took About 40 minutes. From Vista 64 bit 7 copied and saved programs and data of @ 400gb on my lt and @ 80 programs in @ five hours! That was nice!

10/10/2009 9:39:53 PM

Wipe 7 32 bit because of ati problem. Starting re install

To ready desktop:

10/10/2009 10:08:59 PM

A wipe did not fix the ati glitch on a reinstall.

Windows 7 changed back to windows 7 basic color scheme and the tuner came back on. I had just plugged the tuner into Laptop 2 64bit vista and ati 650 worked. Then all of a sudden the tuner started working again on my 7 lt. Weird coincidence.

10/14/2009 4:21:42 AM

Uninistalling Roxio and using a windows basic or Aero theme in Display settings then re-installing the 650 program over the existing install made the 650 work for me again. I dare not mess with Windows TV tuner!

For those with simple need that don’t need a TV tuner I sugest Windows 7 Ultimate. For those willing to troubleshoot your ATI tuner I also suggest Windows 7 Ultimate!

10/14/2009 11:23:51 PM

A windows 7 update today caused the ati not to work again. It plays but is slow.

10/17/2009 5:16:59 AM

I had to reverrify my activation key on the 32 bit.

I can only network 2 machines that are both on 7.

10/17/2009 10:12:32 PM

A clean uninstall of the 650 then re-install AFTER re-installing roxio fixed it so far. It’s working with roxio now. Roxio’s TV tuner and the ati tuner are working. If you put in ati first before Roxio then Roxio won’t let you install ati.

Hp 7350 photo printer won’t work with hp laptop 64bit and 7 desktop 32bit. No compatible drivers I have found so far have helped.

I can’t figure out how to sort icons in Quick launch with 7.

Added larger photoresistors to Andromeda Rocker then using Arduino Lilypad as LFO with them. The Rocker is plugged into a bent ElectroHarmonix Memory Toy analog(ish) delay. The Memory Toy delay is easier to deal with without its case, eventually to get 'bent'. Each LED on the lilypad is running on a different LFO duty cycle to allow for more flexibility with Andromeda Rocker. The delay effect can create infinite sustain (via self oscillation). You can actually just unplug the Rocker and the delay will run on indefinitely. The use of the delay with the Rocker allows you to create nice sweeps using the lights or a flashlight.

Choroni - Venezuela

Had my yearly checkup today, I've been monitored for low tension glaucoma. I don't actually have it, but I have strange cupping in my optic nerve, and they just like to make sure everything is okay.

And everything is okay.

I took two shots in the office, and this is the better of the two, but I must have moved. It's fitting though, because those drops they use to dilate your eyes make everything just a little bit strange...

My workspace at work. Yes, that's a binder clip holding my Mac's power cable. It keeps it from falling behind the desk when I unplug my laptop.

30 Days of Gratitude: Day 8 - I am grateful for hot coffee in the morning.

Is your TV on or off? Is your microwave oven and coffeemaker using electricity even when you aren’t using those appliances? Did you know that mobile phone chargers are using electricity even when they’re plugged in?

www.thedailygreen.com/living-green/definitions/Phantom-Load

A "phantom load" is any appliance or electronic gizmo that uses energy even when turned off. Some people call them "vampire appliances" or "energy vampires." Phantom energy is drained by items including computers that still use power even when they're asleep, power tools that still drain electricity when the battery's charging, and anything with a built-in clock.

If your home is typical, you live with 20 vampires. They add about $200 to your annual energy bill, according to Cornell University. That’s because the "off" button doesn’t really mean "off" these days; instead, it means "standby." In fact, your TV with remote control likely uses more energy during the 20 hours a day that it’s turned off and in a "standby power" state than it does during the hours you watch the tube.

The upshot, according to Cornell, is we’re using the equivalent of seven electrical generating plants just to supply vampires that are turned "off."

Here are some clues to identify your energy suckers: They're appliances with remote controls, such as TVs, VCRs and audio equipment. They feature a continuous digital display -- like those glowing clocks on stoves. They feature rechargeable batteries, such as cordless phones (which use energy even after the battery is charged). And they're appliances with external power supplies, such as inkjet printers and iPod chargers.

How can you combat vampires?

•Kill vampires by using a power strip sold at hardware stores, home-supply superstores, discount stores and the like. Step 1: Plug all components of a computer or home entertainment system into a power strip. Step 2: Turn off the power strip with a single switch. Anything plugged into the strip now is truly turned off.

•Unplug "vampires." Unplug rarely used appliances. Ditto for chargers that aren't in use. Unplug the TV, toaster oven and other well-used appliances before you leave. If it’s not plugged in, it can’t suck energy.

unplug and remove the radio unit. this is the land-rover connector...

Don't unplug the internet! I found this in Springfield, IL at a Starbucks.

This upgrade took me approximately 3 hours. And it's primarily because I was doing 5 other things at once including playing Wolfenstein on XBOX360 and filling out my passport renewal form in addition to being flat out incompetent. Realistically, it should take approximately 1 hour with the greater portion of that time being spent waiting for on the installation of your OS of choice.

My Eee is an Eee 900 w/4gb "fast" SSD and 16gb "slow" SSD. It was the Linux model that I reformatted and put XP on. 4gb of "fast" bootable SSD is usable, but my WinXP was so stripped down that I'd keep finding things that I left out when creating the install using nLite. That pissed me off.

The 4gb "fast" SSD is soldered onboard, so it ain't going anywhere. The 16gb "slow" SSD, however, is easily user-replaceable. To do so, these are the steps you follow:

1) UPGRADE THE BIOS to the latest version - I forgot to do this and it was bad. Very bad.

2) Shut down, unplug & remove battery.

3) Remove panel on bottom of Netbook (2 screws). The panel is easily removable and gives access to the RAM (you might as well replace that with a Kingston 2gb stick while you're at it) and the mini-PCIe SSD.

4) Remove the two screws securing the SSD.

5) Replace w/new, improved SSD.

6) Normally, you could close up the bottom and start things up at this point, however, I always perform a "sanity check" and power up and go into the BIOS to see if it recognises what I've added before buttoning everything up.

If all has gone well, you will see the new SSD in the BIOS under the boot devices. From there, I booted from my trusty Win7 Ultimate RTM USB key and installed everything onto the new, roomy & fast SSD.

If I were to do this again, I'd buy the 64gb version for some extra space for storage. I could throw in a large SDHC card, but I'd prefer to keep the SD card slot open & available for dumping photos and the like.

Next project: upgrading my ThinkPads and other laptops and the Eee Box to Intel X-25M 80gb G2 SSDs. The X40 & X41 will get 1.8" SSDs

The Concept:

As a culture, we have found ourselves entwined with the exponential growth of technology. Our everyday lives are entangled with the necessity for electronic machines, digital devices, chiming alerts, charging ports, LED screens and high speed connectivity.

This summer, we are extending the invitation for you to come unplug with us.

For three days and two nights, we will power down the communication devices and engage in conversation without texting. We will eat meals by the fire and connect socially without the social network. We will appreciate nature in its true form: up close and personal, without the pixels.

We welcome you to our tribal village.

I help the earth by recycling. I unplug to Save electricity, and I take 5 minute showers. I think others should help the earth because it's imperfect. My drawing shows how we can change the world to make it a better place.

If you take your time. Sit down and just listen and observe nature. Your spiritual tank will be refilled to full

Continuing with the music of the late 70's...'so unplug the juke box and do us all a favour...' I found these little fellows in my dad's garden yesterday, enjoying the daffodils.

The mod is pretty straight forward. Remove 4 screws at the bottom of the 430EX, unplug the 5 wire connector. Then I drill a tiny hole to stick the wire through, solder the wire to the right spots. And add double side tapes to secure the wire.

3) Remove the top 3 wires from the coil (back 3 cylinders) and unplug the signal connector. Now you will be able to move the coil out of the way. Remember to mark and make sure you get the correct wire back into the correct coil location (VERY important but also very easy to correctly do).
