The unique dairy barn originally stabled 52 milk cows. It offers ground-level access on all three levels. Wagons entered on the upper level to deposit hay into the central haymow on the main floor below. The Brethren would drive the empty wagons around the circular barn floor and exit the same door they came in, eliminating the potentially dangerous activity of backing wagons out of a barn. The cows stabled on the main floor faced inward toward the haymow for ease of feeding. Manure shoveled through trapdoors to the cellar was stored until needed as fertilizer in the gardens. The Shakers maintained a working dairy farm at Hancock into the 1950s.
This uniquely plumaged bird breeds on the coasts of Peru and Chile, and is restricted to the Humboldt Current. It is an erratic, rare visitor to the southwest coast of Ecuador. Somewhat of a unique view presented itself when both trainsets for ATK 314 (from KC) and late running ATK 301 (from CHI) needed to be spun before returning to the depot for later departures. Generally, Amtrak consists leave the St. Louis downtown station and run east over to the Poplar Street wye to spin shortly after all passengers have detrained. 301 was running nearly 2 hours late and 314 was on time. With nothing else around, the TRRA Merchants Dispatcher was guiding them both and set up this meet above 6th Street. ATK 314's consist is in the foreground and holding for the signal at Gratiot on the UP Lesperance connection while 301's consist shoves by on the TRRA High Line.

I was checking out the garden a few evenings ago when I noticed these cool-looking clouds in the SW sky. If someone knows what this type of formation is called please comment.
This unique 18th century flour mill stands on the "Isle of Wedmore" a ridge giving commanding views of Cheddar Gorge the Somerset Levels and Brent Knoll. Earliest known reference of a mill here is 1317. The mill in the pic was built between 1760 and 1774. It stands 25 feet high and the stone walls are 2 feet thick - the sails being 44 feet across. The last mill stones used were 4 feet in diameter.

Arches National Park near Moab Utah is an area of massive balanced rocks, soaring pinnacles and spires and is the world's largest concentration of natural sandstone arches. Print Size 13x19 inches.
Tiny, cryptic woodland songbird, unique in North America. White below and streaked brown-and-buff above; blends into tree bark very easily. Also note narrow, decurved bill and long tail. In flight, shows a bold buffy wing stripe. When foraging, often starts near the base of a tree trunk, hitches upward in short, jerky motions until it nears the top, then flies to the base of a nearby tree to begin the process again. Found in mature woodland, especially with conifers. Often joins mixed flocks with other songbirds, especially in winter. Listen for high, thin calls and sweet cascading song. (eBird)
Boy, do these birds move fast up the tree! By the time you find them in the viewfinder they're gone. Luckily, I got this one just before s/he disappeared around the back, never to be seen again.
