Saint Louis Southwestern GE's are teamed with parent Southern Pacific GE's, to claw their way over the high level desert territory located east of the ghost town known as Pantano. This guy was flying east of Tucson and so was I, but I ended up sitting on the Interstate waiting for him here, as he had lost considerable speed.
But It gave me time to talk a bit with the late Mr. Doug Harrop, who I never really spent time with other than running into him at cool locations now and then. Wish I had spent more time with him somewhere, as he was great guy but we didn't ever really have enough time to talk. Here was no different, as the sound of GE's barking their way east soon filled the air. Perhaps the most fun memory of this encounter was that we were both talking about our wives, and wondering about them getting kicked out of their respective hotels, due to us being this far east. I thought I might be in trouble since mine was stuck back in Tucson, but then he told me his was back in Phoenix! I tried to explain, but I'm still not sure mine never understood that I really had no choice but to chase this train east.
You'd be hard pressed to shoot a UP train right here these days, as UP re-aligned the eastbound main and cut this section out of it. The track remains in place as a dead end siding, used for car storage sometimes. It will be interesting to see how long that lasts, as it's kind of really strange turning it into a dead end lead. IMHO, at least.

St Chad's Church in Shrewsbury is traditionally understood to have been founded in Saxon times. King Offa, who reigned in Mercia from 757 to 796 AD, is believed to have founded the church, though it is possible it has an earlier foundation even than that.
The church may have been operating on its initial site from buildings that were part of a royal palace established in the 500s AD, in the Kingdom of Powys, who had their capital at Shrewsbury, when it was known as Pengwern.
For a period of nearly 1000 years the church was at the original College Hill site, only moving to its current building and site in 1792.
The distinctive round shape and high tower of the new building is a well-known landmark in the town, near the Quarry area of parkland. The current building is a Grade I listed building.
The motto of the church is "open doors, open hearts, and open minds". This indicates the aspiration of the church to be a welcoming church, involved in the community, and on a collective journey seeking after God.
The naturalist Charles Darwin was baptised in St Chad's church in 1809, and as a young boy attended the church with his mother Susannah.
In 2010, the church became a member of the Greater Churches Group.

I've never understood why they put lampshades on the end of groynes? Either way, they make decent colour contrast against a rather monochromatic scene
The warm-water-form (pictured below) was found in the boulders on the steep last slope before this cliff sequence. See how the cliff greatly reduces the catchment area for 'produce' were the warm-water-form to be understood as a large fruit press.
I never really understood bridesmaid parties or "hen dos" because my maid of honor and I just stayed up all night making mixed tapes with Blur and Pulp on the night before I got married. I could have hired a dj but I just knew the music wouldn't be as good.

This was one of those rare moments when I found it difficult to believe what I was seeing. This really did look like a pair of red-rimmed eyes looking down on the southern flank of Mt. Shasta at sunrise on this particular morning.
The scientist in me understood that this is the underside of a pair of lenticular clouds that had enveloped Shasta's peak ...
... but still: I understand why not knowing that would definitely weird people out. I had never seen anything like this in my life before.

When I woke up that morning I quickly understood it wasn't a good day. Indeed, I missed two times the A340 Air Tahiti Nui at Orly in the afternoon but I decided to go to Le Bourget to catch this classic even if the sky was clearly overcast...
