On 28 March, the day after the announcement of the successive lockdown of Pudong and Puxi and the first day of the lockdown in Pudong, the city centre of Puxi was left untouched for the time being while a rush for food had happened.

This street corner, where the flower seller has always occupied, is a place of leisure for the fashionably wealthy. It seemed that he did not mind the impending lockdown of the city. Now the lockdown has been in place for more than twenty days, I wonder how people like this who make a living on the streets get by.

i'll be out of pocket for a few good weeks, picture wise, i think. will catch you on the flip. i'll at least be lurking for sure, and there may be something here and there as i'll be shooting like mad. just may not be in a position to get stuff processed like i'd like. yeah the pics gone from the public...i'm doing a bit of a gareth i know, sorry for now. in a transition period. now i understand all the other wackos who go and remove their pix :) primary regret is that i've lost all my favorites.

ACCIDENTS IN THE PERCEPTION OF TIME

"Modes of perception: between channels:

Wordless days, years, periods.

Centuries of drawing with black lead, or burnt sienna on the rock.

Restless scratches. Silhouettes of clumsy figures.

A tangle of lines (animals in motion).

Millennia of the word: winding of words around the body, lashing,

silhouettes of clumsy sentences. Space behind them.

Muting: and a surge of noisy images. Unravel. Span.

Look like you understand.

A hand for joy: draw.

A hand.

A hand: survive, kill.

A mouth for the voice (play, cheat). Open. For someone else.

Like with like (Picasso in the cave). And bridges!

For yourself. For someone else."

This is most definitely not Fred Astaire.

TONIGHT'S FULL MOON

OCTOBER 28, 2023

Wishing you all a HAPPY, PEAEFUL, HEALTHY AND A BLESSED Sunday/New Week/New Month!

Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs. They are very much appreciated!

Why Is The October Full Moon The Hunter’s Moon

The October full Moon is most commonly called the Hunter’s Moon in the Northern Hemisphere, a name first ascribed to the tenth month’s full Moon in writing in the early 1700s. The name is easy to understand, as game animals, particularly deer, turkey, and pheasants, are traditionally hunted in mid- to late autumn when the animals are fattened on late summer bounty. And, cooler temperatures also make it easier to begin storing and preserving meat for the winter.

As leaves are falling in October, more Moonlight is visible, making it easier to see and hunt animals at night. Even during the day brush is not as thick and hunting and tracking are easier.

October not only marked the hunting season for game animals, but also historically initiated fox hunting expeditions in Anglo-Saxon regions. The fallen leaves and stubble fields provided favorable conditions for spotting and pursuing foxes effectively. Although fox hunting is largely prohibited as a sport nowadays, its historical significance remains closely linked to the full Moon in October.

As I understand it the flowers of Aesculus glabra ('Smooth' Chestnut) differ from those of the Aesculus flava ('Yellow' Chestnut by the length of their stamens. Those of Glabra are longer than their petals; Flava's shorter.

This pretty flowering Glabra is in the Westerpark in Amsterdam. In North America, Indigenous peoples apparently extracted tannic acid from these Chestnut fruits and used it to cure leather. As far as I know these trees are purely ornamental in The Netherlands.

On the afternoon of the 31th March, 2022, cordons have been up all along the streets of the city centre, and in a few hours, steel plates will be erected in their places to enclose each block.

To understand why Jodhpur is known as “the blue city” you should head towards the older quarters of Jodhpur. Here many of the houses are painted blue. The reason behind it is not clear though. Some says those blue houses belongs to the families of brahmins and some others says houses were painted blue by using chemicals including copper sulphate to get rid of termites.

Mehrangarh fort or the "Sun" fort was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 AD when he shifted his capital from the nearby Mandore,on the advice of a hermit. The imposing fort perches atop a 125 m high hill, above the city and overlooks the rugged and rocky terrain. It is a standing sentinel to the grandeur of the past, invincible and dauntless in its league with time.

Coaster is a commuter rail service, it stands for Coast Express Railway, in that case the American west coast is mentioned, a pretty short line between Oceanside and San Diego, trains run pretty often, sometimes 1 train per hour in each direction, sometimes 3 trains per direction. This spot is right after Carlsbad Poinsettia station where Coasters do their stop. Earlier you could have seen F40’s but the NCTD wanted to do a upgrade and have bought the Siemens-built Siemens Chargers which are modern, efficient and better how they’ve thought but if you know what right now happens with the Pacific Surfliner SC-44’s ypu will understand that they aren’t that good.

Always the nucleic acid sampling for everyone. No one knows as to when this will end. Yet the residents continue to cooperate tamely with the Big Brother's performance.

Since March, the outbreak has been spiralling out of control across China, including Shanghai, sonce the Chinese government refused to approve the US vaccine due to face-saving concerns, forcing the Chinese to only get the ineffective (and potentially harmful) vaccine made in China. This policy has proven to be a complete failure, yet the government persists with it. In Shanghai, neighbourhoods are sealed off in shifts and each resident is ordered to undergo a PCR test in groups of ten or even twenty, called "carpet testing". Although it did nothing to end the epidemic, for the officials, such a huge outpouring of effort and expense was nothing more than a show of hard work, while also taking the opportunity to bring the population under complete control.

Fall colours always amaze me, how all those green leaves take on new colours just before they fall to the ground. I understand the chemical reasons chlorophyll and photosynthesis. But the more natural unscientific explanation is so much more interesting.

the sun was starting to drop in the evening sky creating silver sparkles on the water and throwing the brilliant coloured leaves into shadow and eventual obscurity

diesen Kommentar habe ich heute Morgen Petra geschrieben und er passt auch hier ...

In Germany, we can speak of a comprehensive weather record since 1881. Since this period, there has never been a year as rainy as 2024.

Flooding of large areas is accumulating and causing major damage (throughout Europe) and causing people to die ...

The severe hurricane "Beryl" has made its way through the Caribbean. According to the US hurricane center NHC, it has been downgraded to the second-highest category 4. Accordingly, the hurricane with wind speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour is now just below the threshold for category 5.

Never before has there been a hurricane of this strength so early.

Normally there are around 6 hurricanes in the season. This time, meteorologists are expecting up to 13 cyclones.

The seas are too hot. How long will it stay like this?

And in the US, voters are ready to elect a liar and criminal and climate change denier like Donald Trump, whose plans to dismantle democracy have long been known. I'd rather vote for a Biden, even in the ICU, because he has a passable surrogate.

I can no longer understand our friends, the Americans, at the moment.

Yeah. Work, friends, and the road - that’s all I have, and they make me really happy. It took a while to understand Watts’ ‘now’ and ‘beauty of nothingness,’ but here I am, his joyful pupil.

And so, I didn’t even have any expectations, thoughts, or plans for this summer, but something insightful that my friend, Tom, had told me in August 2018 kept bugging me. Subconsciously really, because I couldn’t point the finger. Agnostics like me don’t believe in karma. Science and poetry do it for us. However, we accept the statistical randomness in the Kingdom of Peace, where we belong.

Well, about that statistical randomness that favors goodness. It started in mid-June for me.

A brilliant friend who lives in Cali needed comfort. Unfortunate events pained her unexpectedly, and I had to do something about it. Right when I was about to take a week off to be near my friend, a work project took me to Cali. What joy to do work you love and to be near those you love at the same time. Yes, the sweetness of the statistical randomness on my side. It worked out really well.

I had scheduled a lazy vacation in a Clearwater beach resort during the first week of July and was considering canceling it so that I could be near my friend, but Good C insisted that I shouldn’t. “Don’t cancel it, Steinbeck (that’s what she calls me).” and I didn’t even question her thinking.

So I went to Clearwater, except that the lazy vacation turned into a crazy one thanks to a new friend I made there. From jet skiing and parasailing with Ludí to hunting for good food and befriending strangers in Sanibel Island, that vacation tired us with joy.

Then back to work for two more weeks, and a challenging project took me back to Cali. Fun and tough at the same time, to the point that I couldn’t find time for my friend. That was bothering me, but luck again worked on my side. My friend showed how healed, and healthy her heart had become the day that I left Cali.

Back to another tough project in Colorado, I really want to get done well because it might burden Greg if I don’t complete it. Next week I’m heading to Europe. That might be the most joyful project with my current employer for reasons that need more than just a Flickr photo journal entry.

As a side note, I’ve had a chance to get acquainted with the British psychologist Adam Phillips's work recently. Quite enjoying it. I agree with him to neither apologize nor forgive. He won’t elaborate, but this is what I think: Apology is rarely rooted in integrity. It almost always is self-serving and adds intent to the original insult. Not so easy to accept or comprehend, but I’ve fully subscribed to it for now.

Anyway, the beauty of nothingness matters now.

Stockholm’s oldest obsevatory, a bright orange building that crowns a hilltop, was completed in 1753. It looks like a castle capped with a single dome. The observatory was built not to help astronomers understand the universe, but to map its movements and chart the stars.

This practice allowed astronomers to deduce the time accurately. To do this, a special meridian telescope was created and a meridian line was drawn. This was the prime meridian of Sweden until Greenwich became the world’s standard in 1884.

Eva: Dave, I really don't understand why I need to stand on this scale.

Dave: It's quite simple. It's New Years and a common resolution to make is to lose some weight.

Eva: I don't think that one applies to me. I'm perfect.

Dave: Really? You don't think that you put on a bit of weight last year?

Eva: I did indeed. But, it was all part of the plan. Part of my fitness goals.

Dave: Really? Very few would consider gaining weight as a good fitness goal.

Eva: Well, very few are as brilliant as me. See, I put on a little extra around the middle then you guys take me for more walks. Since we've been doing longer walks all of the weight is gone. So, more weight equals more walks and more fitness. A perfect plan!

Dave: Then why will you only stand on the scale with two paws.

Eva: You humans only do it with two feet. I'm just following the instructions.

Dave: Really?

Eva: That and I don't want to give you an accurate baseline weight. If you had an accurate baseline weight the need for long walks might disappear.

----------

Eva did put on a few pounds last year, but since longer more frequent walks have been initiated she's looking great.

Eva really is glad to be back in the 52 weeks spotlight. She was hesitant to get on the scale at first, but some motivational Cheerios really did help. Which may have been all part of her plan too.

Street lights, understandably, less so.

Presumably a light on a plane failing will cause an alarm to sound and generate a protocol. I wonder did anyone other than me noticed that that this street light wasn't working. I only noticed because I pointed a camera at it.

You walk into the room

With your pencil in your hand

You see somebody naked

And you, you say, "Who is that man?"

You try so hard

But you don't understand

Just what you will say

When you get home

Because something is happening here

But you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

You raise up your head

And you ask, "Is this where it is?"

And somebody points to you and says

"It's his"

And you say, "What's mine?"

And somebody else says, "Well what is?"

And you say, "Oh my God

Am I here all alone?"

But something is happening

And you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

You hand in your ticket

And you go watch the geek

Who immediately walks up to you

When he hears you speak

And says, "How does it feel

To be such a freak?"

And you say, "Impossible"

As he hands you a bone

And something is happening here

But you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

You have many contacts

Among the lumberjacks

To get you facts

When someone attacks your imagination

But nobody has any respect

Anyway they already expect you

To all give a check

To tax-deductible charity organizations

You've been with the professors

And they've all liked your looks

With great lawyers you have

Discussed lepers and crooks

You've been through all of

F. Scott Fitzgerald's books

You're very well read

It's well known

But something is happening here

And you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you

And then he kneels

He crosses himself

And then he clicks his high heels

And without further notice

He asks you how it feels

And he says, "Here is your throat back

Thanks for the loan"

And you know something is happening

But you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

Now you see this one-eyed midget

Shouting the word "NOW"

And you say, "For what reason?"

And he says, "How?"

And you say, "What does this mean?"

And he screams back, "You're a cow

Give me some milk

Or else go home"

And you know something's happening

But you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

Well, you walk into the room

Like a camel and then you frown

You put your eyes in your pocket

And your nose on the ground

There ought to be a law

Against you comin' around

You should be made

To wear earphones

'Cause something is happening

And you don't know what it is

Do you, Mister Jones?

“Each mushroom is a soft reminder that beauty often grows where we least expect it.”

While wandering the backwoods of the Saanich Peninsula I came across this mushroom, a first for me.

Another one checked off my list of fungi to photograph.

I understand they are very good to eat, but I do not pick them, just enjoy and photograph then leave them be.

That's exactly what this car is. The Grohsbach Eigenbau is the sole product of Alfred Grahsbach who decided to build his own microcar. It was far from a toy and included various patents, like four wheeled steering and a motorbike type set of handlebars that could be used to control the car. With a top speed of 60mph and a 248cc engine that developed 12hp it proved to be his daily use vehicle into the 1960's.

Built in 1953 at his home in Tamm, West Germany.

The car in the background is a very early post war car built for invalids. I understand that only one leg was required to drive it so it proved popular with amputees.

Samantha: Your outfit is very French and I like your pose. And the cakes was a really good touch! Great job!

Emily (Spain)

Alice: It's good but not your best. Good.

Claire: You are a sweet girl, but I don't think this is a Europe style...

Samantha: I like your outfit and pose, I think it's very Spanish. Your really pretty girl but you could use another background! I know you could do better, Emily! :) Good Job!

Gabriella (Indonesian)

Alice: I understand that you wanted to do Indonesia, Europe but your supposed to follow the themes. It's pretty, but you need to follow the rules :)

Claire: You look like a true Indonesian ! I heart that, except that it is really blurry...

Samantha: Oh, Gabriella! This is exactly what I wanted! I love everything! Great Job!

Amber (Portugal)

Alice: C-U-T-E! I love the outfit and it's very original

Claire: You look like a true Portugal, but with a better background, it could be better!

Samantha: Very Portugal! I love your outfit but with a better background it would be Perfect! Great Job!

Eve (Spain)

Alice: Most Original this week in my option! Love that you searched up Spain culture and found that! :D

Claire: Wow ! My favorite of the bunch so far ! You look totally amazing and gorgeous. A bit too much of editing, but over that, this is totally well done !!!

Samantha: Best of the week! I love it! I like the pose and the flower in your hair! Too much editing but the background is Perfect. Great Job!

Cordons have been up all along the streets of the city centre, and in a few hours, steel plates will be erected in their places to enclose each block.

Ji Ji Dry Cleaner's, 71 Yongkang Road, is a well-known shop on this street. The young man on the right in the picture is taking a picture of the owner of the dry cleaners before the lockdown, using the police cordon as a foreground.

... paint your palette blue and gray

Look out on a summer's day

With eyes that know the darkness in my soul ...

Shadows on the hills

Sketch the trees and the daffodils

Catch the breeze and the winter chills

In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

Mandy is doing pretty well...she and Mister had salmon for dinner last night and her appetite is continuing to get more consistent. She is tolerating the kittens really well and hanging out with us more. So I'm hopeful that we are on the right path to keep her comfortable. She still doesn't understand that the medicine that she fights is what is making her feel better so there is a bit of stress when she hides or isn't cooperative. Hope you have a great Monday!

I don't understand. I can't get a grasp. All I know is that there's some kind of turbulence in my mind and in my heart.

Please press 'L' for the magic.

I can't keep up with the days lately. It's all become a big cheating fest. I go out to wonderful places like this and take tons of pictures that I am so incredibly proud of and find myself wanting to upload those instead of the poopy ones that I don't really care all that much about.

Just entered a contest. It would mean the world if you could hit "Collect me" at the top! You must log into Facebook and hit 'Collect me' twice because sometimes the first vote doesn't go through. Vote! Thank you<3
