The water understands
Civilization well;
It wets my foot, but prettily,
It chills my life, but wittily,
It is not disconcerted,
It is not broken-hearted:
Well used, it decketh joy,
Adorneth, doubleth joy:
Ill used, it will destroy,
In perfect time and measure
With a face of golden pleasure
Elegantly destroy.

As we cross the morning dew, onto the staircase of troubles, we look below at ourselves and others as well. To time travel, is what we wish. But, we remain on this staircase, the one where where we keep our troubles, and below we go. We feel and yet think that falling and dropping it all, will create a final masterpiece. To give ourselves away to anything just to feel beauty again. We’re falling. The paint brushes against the cement with colors that we’ve never seen before. The colors express our emotion yet in simplest form. As I leave the staircase, I leave my past. As I held on for so long. As I wanted it to past. The colors surround my mind. For they remain in place. But I will leave this place of troubles, and one day find a better staircase.

Starling.
The common starling (Sturnus vulgaris), also known as the European starling, or in the British Isles just the starling, is a medium-sized passerine bird in the starling family, Sturnidae. It is about 20 cm (8 in) long and has glossy black plumage with a metallic sheen, which is speckled with white at some times of year. The legs are pink and the bill is black in winter and yellow in summer; young birds have browner plumage than the adults. It is a noisy bird, especially in communal roosts and other egregious situations, with an unmusical but varied song. Its gift for mimicry has been noted in literature including the Mabinogion and the works of Pliny the Elder and William Shakespeare.
The common starling has about a dozen subspecies breeding in open habitats across its native range in temperate Europe and western Asia, and it has been introduced to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, South Africa and Fiji.[2] This bird is resident in southern and western Europe and southwestern Asia, while northeastern populations migrate south and west in winter within the breeding range and also further south to Iberia and North Africa. The common starling builds an untidy nest in a natural or artificial cavity in which four or five glossy, pale blue eggs are laid. These take two weeks to hatch and the young remain in the nest for another three weeks. There are normally one or two breeding attempts each year. This species is omnivorous, taking a wide range of invertebrates, as well as seeds and fruit. It is hunted by various mammals and birds of prey, and is host to a range of external and internal parasites.
Large flocks typical of this species can be beneficial to agriculture by controlling invertebrate pests; however, starlings can also be pests themselves when they feed on fruit and sprouting crops. Common starlings may also be a nuisance through the noise and mess caused by their large urban roosts. Introduced populations in particular have been subjected to a range of controls, including culling, but these have had limited success except in preventing the colonisation of Western Australia. The species has declined in numbers in parts of northern and western Europe since the 1980s due to fewer grassland invertebrates being available as food for growing chicks. Despite this, its huge global population is not thought to be declining significantly, so the common starling is classified as being of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

To understand converting some picture in black and white, you need to understand one thing 1st, not all the pictures will give you eye catching black and white results. You need to understand what you want to show at the end result of the image. Best way to convert an image to black and white begins with a single raw file. Raw is the digital negative of an image and you will have more channels and lights to work with without destroying clarity and introducing unnatural effects. People, who shoot in JPG mode, should consider shooting in raw.
I am getting emails about how do I convert images to black and white, and about my camera, lens etc. since you guys make an effort to write to me, I decided to write you back here.
Here is the shortcut for you, select your raw file and send it to adobe photoshop(I use CS4), file should be in tif format with 16 bits. Now from your keyboard, type ALT+SHIFT+CONT+B which will open a dialog box of the black and white channel mix. Now in the drop down menu, you can see various presets. You can play around with it till you find something suitable, else you can play with the channels like RED BLUE GREEN etc and check for which mix gives the subject to stand out. Always check on the image curves, shadows, lights, skin tone etc. Make sure you think about how you want to present your image. In this black and white image, I choose to present it as a soft, peaceful composition defusing the lights giving it a soft glow. I have added a tint which you can also add.
A simple picture can appear dramatic in black and white. Its also possible to get carried away with the images. Today’s photographers prefer to make the image eye soothing with high dynamic range of lights and also sharpness. Adding extra contrast and very dark subjects are less popular.
You can’t produce a good black and white over night; it takes practice and patients to perfect your skills. And ofcourse, you need to love black and white photography in 1st place :) good luck.

I do not understand why immigrants who arrive by boat from poor countries are welcomed, and then leave them on the road like this, in my opinion those countries should be helped to improve their living conditions so that no one is forced to risk their lives on them. boats, enriching smugglers, our government bringing so many people from these countries is complicit with human traffickers ... this really makes me angry

Fortunate To Know & Understand “O Fortuna” - IMRAN®
“O Fortuna” from “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff is not just music—it’s a thunderous invocation of fate’s cruelty and fortune’s volatility. Composed in 1935, when my late father was a toddler, this choral masterpiece opens the cantata with a primal force that has echoed through concert halls, film scores, and—regrettably—too many superficial ads. But beneath the bombast lies a profound meditation on the wheel of fortune, the rise and fall of human destiny, and the raw unpredictability of life.
This particular performance by the Vienna Philharmonic (Wiener Philharmoniker) captures both the grandeur and the anguish embedded in Orff’s vision. The Latin lyrics, drawn from 13th-century medieval poetry, speak of fate as a tyrant—blind, capricious, and ever-turning. If you take a moment to read the translated text, you’ll uncover lines like:
“Fate—monstrous and empty, you whirling wheel…”
These aren’t just dramatic flourishes—they’re existential truths, shouted into the void by monks and minstrels who knew suffering, joy, and the impermanence of both.
There are many reasons why it moves me so much. The music’s relentless rhythm mirrors the pounding of time itself. The choir’s crescendos evoke the rise and fall of empires, fortunes, and lives. The lyrics remind us that no triumph is permanent, and no despair is final.
This piece has been one of my personal favorites for decades—not just for its sonic power, but for its philosophical depth. It’s a greatness-inspiring reminder that art can scream truth louder than any sermon or slogan.
Watch the video in the comment below—and if you’ve never read the full translation, do it. You’ll never hear “O Fortuna” the same way again.
I first heard O Fortuna more than 35 years ago—and it struck a chord so deep, I’ve never stopped resonating with it. Its fierce truth about fate and fortune mirrored my own worldview so precisely, it felt like the music had named something I’d always known. That alignment wasn’t just emotional—it was philosophical, spiritual, and enduring. I consider myself truly ‘Fortunate To Know & Understand “O Fortuna.”’

Quite understandably the Coventry municipal fleet was well stocked with Daimler buses . . . until there was a little upset caused by an order for competing Atlanteans rather than home built Fleetlines.
Here though, Clem has caught VWK 264, a 1958 Metro Cammell 60 seater CVG6 from the previous generation to the above debacle, resting outside Red House Motor Services office. Soon after he took this photo, the Coventry operation wall fall under the West Midlands PTE unbrella, something which never seemed to sit particularly well with the good citizens of the city.
