Rocky mountain bighorn sheep (ovis canadensis canadensis) are native to North America, and noted for horns which can weigh up to 14kg. Adults can weigh 140kg, and there are three distinct sub species. They originally came from Siberia over seven hundred and fifty thousand years ago and were important to first nation native Indians who watched as the species neared extinction thanks to the introduction of European livestock and over hunting by white settlers.

Containing the Villa Borghese, a museum and biopark with a zoo, these are the third largest gardens in Rome at almost two hundred acres, and built by Flaminio Ponzio in 1605 for Cardinal Scipione Borghese as a party villa.

This photograph of a Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos), was taken at 10:37am on Tuesday 24th May 2016 near Duncan in British Columbia, Canada.

The Golden Eagle is the most widely distributed species of Eagle, and large specimens have been recorded with a wingspan in excess of Eight feet and males weighing fourteen pounds. They have been know to maintain home territories of up to 200 kilometres and can dive at speeds of two hundred Miles per hour.

Eagles, including Bald and Golden Eagles have a huge significance to many First Nations bands in Canada and the United States Of America. Eagles are seen as the mediators for Native people, they help the answering of prayers and are viewed as guardian angels. Historically, Eagle feathers were earned for various acts of bravery and worn in clothing and headdress.

The Golden Eagle is a figure from Shishalh (Sechelt First Nation) folklore in British Columbia, revered as a supernatural creature, and many see it as sacred as it flies closest to the creator, and traditionally all parts of the bird were used including the bones, with each bird respected and honoured after it's death.

Here we see a male American kestrel (Falco sparverius)is a fiersome predator, a raptor (bird of prey), and the smallest and most common Falcon in North America. It can measure as little as eight inches in height with a wingspan of 20 inches, and the females are larger and very different in colouration to the males.

Here we see an adult female Attacus atlas, the atlas moth or 'Cobra moth' to which it is sometimes referred thanks to it's cobra headed wingtips used as a defence against possible pradators. It's Cantonese name translates as 'Snake's head moth'. A saturniids, or Saturniidae moth in the family Lepidoptera, it is the third largest species of moth in the world, with a wingspan up to 24cms or nine and a half inches.

Females are much larger than the males, and have thinner antenna, as well as different silver/white markings on the upper wings.

The waterfall drops two hundred feet and can be viewed from inside and behind with a walkway and legends of elves and treasures in Icelandic culture.

This Fifteen seconds long exposure was taken taken at an altitude of Two metres, at 05:59am on Wednesday 1st September 2019 around sunrise off 1st Street and Bevan Avenue, between the boat jetty and Bevan Avenue Fishing Pier in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The Bevan Avenue fishing pier is one of the main focal points in Sidney, and Work commenced on the pier in 1993 with Phase one, a 90 metre straight section being completed in 1996. A year later the 110 metre Phase two section was completed.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fourteen metres, at 06:34am on Wednesday 7th September 2011 in the magic of the Golden hour around sunrise, off Patricia Bay Highway and Lochside Drive, close to Frost Avenue and the Lochside waterfront Park in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Every morning around sunrise you can hear the groups of Canada Geese (Branta Canadensis) which have been sleeping on the water, stir into action and head Westwards across the water to their mornings destination, honking loudly and often in a V formation. A group of geese in flight is known as a Skein.

In the distance we see Mt Baker in Washington State, USA . Known to the Lummi First nation people (Lhaq'temish) as Kwelshán ('Shooting place' in Nooksack), to the Halkomelem as Kwelxá:lxw, to Lushootseed speakers along the Skagit River as Teqwúbe7 meaning “snow-capped peak'', to the Nooksack language as Kweq’ Smánit (“white mountain'') and also known as Koma Kulshan, (pronounced kō-ō’mah’ kool-shän’), the name for the Middle Fork which originates from the glaciers such as Deming and Thunder on the western slopes, she is an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington State in the United States, standing 3,286 metres tall and was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.

The name Mount Baker first appeared in print in Captain Vancouver’s 1798 narrative of his voyage around Vancouver Island. Legend has it that his third-lieutenant, Joseph Baker, was the first to spot the mountain while they sailed into Dungeness Bay on April 30th, 1792.

This photograph was taken an altitude of Nine hundred and thirteen metres, at 13:29pm on Monday May 16th 2016 off the Alaska Highway 1 close to Morley Lake on the way to Teslin in British Columbia, Canada.

This is a large adult American Black Bear (Ursus Americanus). Native to North America, and found in abundance in the Yukon territory and Alaska, Black bears have a small tail, up to nine inches long foot length and males can weigh up to 250kgs.

On my trip I encountered several bears and, although it is strongly recommended that you do not leave your vehicle to photograph these beautiful wild animals, needless to say, with care and caution I did just that to capture my photographs.

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and thirteen metres at 11:31am on Thursday 8th November 2018, off Biskupstungnabraut 35 and Haukadalsvegur F333 at Gesir, a geothermal location where a geyser erupts every eight to ten minutes. The location is in an area formerly known as Hverasandar, in the Haukadalur valley on the slopes of Laugarfjall hill,at the northern edge of the southern lowlands in Iceland.

The geothermal field has a surface area of around 3 km² and the former spouting Geyser here, named Hvitamelur is dry. To the south are two small spouting Geysers known as Marteinslaug and Gufubadshver, and the current oldest spouting Geyser Northernmost is Geysir itself.

Reynisfjara boasts several enormous basalt stacks and powerful, roaring waves off the Atlantic Ocean, and was voted as one of the top ten non-tropical beaches to visit on the planet by National Geographic. The Reynisdranger basalt stacks are named Langsamur, Landdrangur and Skessudranger or Háidrangur.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.

On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.

These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, a Nikon D850 FX Pro body as my trusted companion, I travel light with less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. This One seconds long exposure was taken at 04.33am on a beautiful Springtime morning in the Golden hour around sunrise (Sunrise was at precisely 05.44am), at an altitude of Twenty three metres on Friday 24th April 2020, off Bexley Lane and Rectory Lane within Foots Cray Meadows in Bexley, Kent.

This Twenty five seconds long exposure was taken at an altitude of One metres, in the golden hour around sunrise at 06:15am on Sunday 1st September 2019 around sunrise off 1st Street and Bevan Avenue, standing on the Bevan Avenue Fishing Pier in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The Bevan Avenue fishing pier is one of the main focal points in Sidney, and Work commenced on the pier in 1993 with Phase one, a 90 metre straight section being completed in 1996. A year later the 110 metre Phase two section was completed.

Il Duomo di Firenze, is the main church of Florence, begun in 1296 and completed in 1436, it was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio and engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The dome was once the largest in the world. The Cathedral, known in Latin as 'Cathedral Sanctae Mariae Floris ', is 376ft high, 502ft long and has a floor space of 89,000square feet.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.

On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.

These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, a Nikon D850 FX Pro body as my trusted companion, I travel light with less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. This is my 123rd photograph to be selected, which for me is both amazing and exciting, as I never view my images as worthy compared to some of the awesome photography out there. EXPLORE is Flickr's way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time -- usually over a 24 hour period.

Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute -- That's about 8.6 million photos a day! From this huge group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm chooses only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period. The Champ de Mars (Field of Mars), is a large park located in the Seventh arrondissement between the Eiffel Tower to the Northwest and Ecole Militaire to the Southeast. It was named after Campus Martius in Rome, Italy. It originally measured 42 hectares, but was reduced by architect Jeran-Camille Fromige for the 1890 World Exposition.

The Eiffel Tower was originally designed by Gustave Eiffel and constructed between 1887-1889 as the entrance to the worlds fair in that year. It is now the worlds most visited paid monument, standing 324 metres tall (1,063ft) with three floors and eight lifts and was the tallest building in the world from 1889 to 1930.

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and eighty eight metres at 13:25pm on Thursday 8th November 2018, off Biskupstungnabraut 35 at Gullfoss (Golden falls) waterfall, on the Ölfusá river in the South-west of iceland, located in the canyon of the Hvítá (white river)which begins at the Hvítárvatn glacier lake on the Langjökull glacier in the highlands of Iceland.

This tiered cataract waterfall has two drops of around eleven and twenty one metres, falling into a crevice thirty two metres deep and flows at a rate of between eighty and one hundred and forty cubic metres per second depending on the season.

This Three seconds long exposure was taken at an altitude of Three metres, in the golden hour around sunrise at 06:53am on Tuesday 16th September 2019 seated on a fold up camping chair around sunrise off 1st Street and Bevan Avenue, between the boat jetty and Bevan Avenue Fishing Pier in beautiful Sidney by the sea on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

I was up around 5am, showered and pressing the button to the electric garage door, hoping not to awaken my family and the neighbourhood on an overcast morning in Sidney, BC. I threw my camera gear into the middle seating row of the Buick Enclave 3.6 and stirred the 275bhp engine into life, heading down the road past the school and Thrifty's foods towards the sea front. It's always a pleasure sitting here on the beach with the tide lapping the shoreline as the sun comes up, or doesn't as on this occasion!

Photograph taken at 05:47am at an altitude of Three metres on April 7th 2011 off Hastings Avenue and Selsey Avenue, between Jaywick and Clacton on sea in Essex, England. Here we are looking towards the old pier which opened in 1871 with a length of 160 yards.

I had to get up around 3am to prepare and make the hour and a bit journey through the Dartford crossing tunnel to Essex. These were the days of toll booths and automated systems where you could lob coins through your car window and race the guys in the next lane who've been tailgating you on the run up! Once there, I was rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise and the beauty of old Clacton which has hardly changed since my childhood.

Here we see, Sciurus Carolinensis (Eastern Gray Squirrel or Grey Squirrel), a tree squirrel native to North America and first introduced to the UK in the 1870's. Though it was largely resonsible for the decimation of our own native red squirrel population, those are now on the increase and found in certain parts of the UK including Scotland. The Greys are still an ecologically essential natural forester regenerator.

The parkland dates back to Norman times and was purchased by the Tournay family in the Fifteenth Century. William Tournay is was the first family member to have the grounds and lake sculpted, and after his death in 1903, the land was purchased by Kent County Council, and opened to the public in 1947.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty eight metres at 14:07pm on a summer afternoon on Monday 7th June 2021, off Hythe Avenue and Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent.

Here we see a juvenile Starling (Sturnus vulgaris), 'sunning' itself on a garden stone pathway, now fully fledged and fending for itself having spent a short period of time being fed by it's parents. Starlings are Passerines measuring up to 21cm in length with up to a 42cm wingspan. They are most abundant in the South East of England and are capable of mimicking many sounds around them and despite being a common sight in UK gardens, their decline elsewhere sees them on the red conservation list.

'Sunning' herself on a garden fence.'Sunning', is a behaviour adopted by several bird species which involves sitting down, fanning it's wings or tail feathers, fluffing out it's feathers, tilting it's head, or even staring at the sun with one eye in an effort to release vital preening oils into the feathers, to help rid themselves of unwanted parasites, and possibly even simply because they enjoy it! Other species that I've observed doing this include the Blackbird (Turdus merula) and juvenile Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris).
