I undertook a post graduate in Unix at St. Patrick’s College about fifteen years ago and it was an interesting experience. A few days after completing the course the company that I worked for was purchased by Banta and I was made redundant as the new owners did not require Unix expertise. The post-graduate which was very expensive was sponsored and paid for by the EU and at the time I had believed that I was attending Maynooth University rather than St. Patrick’s because I did not know that they were not the same.
St Patrick's College is the "National Seminary for Ireland" (a Roman Catholic college), and a Pontifical University, located in the village of Maynooth, 24 km from Dublin, Ireland. In 2015-16 there were approximately 80 men studying for the priesthood at Maynooth, 60 resident seminarians and approximately 20 non residents. The college and seminary are often referred to as Maynooth College. The college was officially established as the Royal College of St Patrick by an Act of Grattan's Parliament in 1795. Thomas Pelham, the Secretary of State, introduced his Bill for the foundation of a Catholic college, and this was enacted by Parliament.
Degrees are awarded by the Pontifical University at Maynooth, which was established by a Pontifical Charter of 1896. The Pontifical Charter entitles the university to grant degrees in canon law, philosophy and theology. The college is associated with the separate Maynooth University.

Sun Interactive UNIX 4.1.1 booting on QEMU 0.9.0. It recognizes the disk controller and virtual HD, but has issues when trying to partition/format the drive. I'm hoping to work around the problems.
ISC was sold to Kodak, which sold the UNIX side of things to Sun. This was sold as Sun's x86 UNIX offering until Solaris x86 came out as a product.
It was actually supported (if you had a contract) until 2006.
Immigration is a hot topic in the news of late. Supposedly, new laws would make assisting illegal immigrants a punishable crime. I won't go into the debate, but I do want to point out another kind of immigration happening right in my office. Not too long ago, my own manager back then jumped at an opportunity to become some kind of a manager in the Unix account admin group. Then recently when some other group lost their jobs to Mumbai, the Team Lead there got inserted into the Unix group. Most recently, a colleague finally got her wish of leaving us poor schmucks in Wintel account admin to join, you guess it, the Unix team.
My take on this is that Unix is somewhat safer than Wintel, for the time being anyway. Anyone with enough money can buy a Windows PC and learn some basic Windows skill and voila they can become a LAN account admin. With Unix, you have to be a geek to start with to get involved with Linux and its various distros. Or shell out enough money to buy a SPARCstation. Despite what the typical Linux fanboy may tell you, Linux, to me, is still for geeks. It may be great for servers and all, but on the desktop it's still too technical. So, because of this additional level of expertise, your typical Mumbai city dweller probably don't know enough Unix to take the Unix jobs from American - yet. But then again, I don't think the people in my group who went to Unix know much about Unix at the time of the transition. So, maybe the same applies to Unix jobs going to Mumbai - some Mumbai guys with no Unix expertise can easily take on Unix jobs from the U.S.
Being a tech-minded person, it never amazes me how people can just transfer from one department to another like the way it happens in my company - no need to be an expert in the area, you can learn it on the fly. Job ads usually say you need to know this and that but the requirements within my company is so much lower.
Back to the cartoon. Originally I was going to label the top drawing The Potato Famine of 1840 Ireland. To draw the parallel between the two situations, I would label the lower drawing The Job Jitters of 2006 Newport. When I researched on The Potato Famine, I read about the millions of deaths and other sufferings, so I deemed best not to even mention it. It's enough to show ships heading from the islands of Ireland and Britain to the U.S. By the way, did you notice that the grass is greener on the Unix side of the fence?`
the computer had nearly a half year uptime acting as a LAN router/firewall using a netbsd 1.6 live CD.

Memorabilia for Dennis Ritchie, the Unix room, and Computer Science Research. G. R. Emlin resides on top of the bookcase.
(This is the Unix philosophy: Write programs that do one thing and do it well. Write programs to work together. Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.)
