Pedro Arrupé Footbridge.
Designed by engineer José Antonio Fernández Ordóñez, the work was completed after his death by his son Lorenzo and opened in 2004. It is a very visual and impressive construction (it looks like a big dragonfly), and is finished with a covering of Lapacho wood, treated to prevent people slipping. This modern pedestrian bridge, built between the Abandoibarra Walk and the Avenue of the Universities, next to Deusto University, it is dedicated to the Bilbao priest Pedro Arrupe, a innovator of the Society of Jesus who died in Rome in 1991.

Here I was struck by the way one saw people working in similar but different ways on the two levels. I asked the most prominent people for their permission, which may be why they are smiling as they display that they are working hard.

A panned shot on a Twin Lens Reflex camera, something that I never really got the hang of. Still, with one of these beasts storming towards you and a top shutter speed of only 1/250, there wasn't a lot of choice!

This is looking at north of Amsterdam Avenue.
A short walk in Morningside Heights starting at the Peace Fountain. The archangel Michael was snowed in so the fountain was closed, I just took pics outside the fence. Then it's on to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine but there was worship going on so I just took a couple of pics of the stained glass windows. After the church visit I continued on to Columbia University and to Riverside Church, which was also closed as it was already late afternoon. My last stop was General Grant's tomb. I'll prob come back this route in a month or two, and hopefully take more and better pics.
