i started reading this book the other day and it's extremely good
With Keppie, Henderson & Gleave's spectacularly badly sited James Watt Engineering Building... Alhough it is an attractive example of 1950s 'vernacular modernism' in its own right, and it doesn't breach the roofscape of the Gilbert Scott building when viewed from this position.

When I was a student at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture, this building was used as a mini shopping mall. They also had office space. Three of my architecture professors had an architectural practice in the upper level.
Today, the Dinky Dome is primarlly student housing, and the only commercial space is at ground level. The Dome is used as a loounge for the student residents.
