I hand made these 3D letters out of card for my graphic design project on typography. I experimented with composition and typefaces.
46: pride What is it that gives us a sense of pride? The inspiration behind the project was the London to Brighton 2006 bike ride, which Steven entered in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation – an organisation with which he has a very personal connection. The work details events and experiences from the training sessions in the build-up to the ride. These include observations along the way, medical details, memorabilia and maps of the training sessions.

I made this Typography Face in GIMP. I got the words from Lorem Ipsum. It didn't turn out how I liked because you cant see my eyes, but I still like it.
This is an experiment with typography as an attempt to create closely-fitting letters with basic geometric shapes. A texture will be applied to this design as the next entry of the daily design project.

This autumn Princeton Architectural Press, New York has published the new book by Steven Heller, the world’s leading graphic design historian, and Lita Talarico called Typography Sketchbooks. It's been also published in Europe by Thames and Hudson. Typography Sketchbooks compiles works by nearly 120 of the world's leading graphic designers, typographers, and leterers.

Who knew that the mail would bring me the subject for today's challenge. This is a good example of what you shouldn't do when selecting type for an advertising piece. Too many fonts, too many colours makes it too confusing! But hey, it's a public utility company, not Apple or some big multi-national with a huge media budget.

There is a lot of work and planning to be done over the coming months. This monogram reflects that I need to Get Shit Done.
Web typography? Sounds good, but looks awful! How to recognise poor web typography? Why is it that micro-typography on the Internet lags centuries behind? What is the connection between text lines and Laurel & Hardy? Why is web typography actually a misleading designation?

Several years ago I was asked to pitch for a corporate identity for the local concert hall ‘The Brighton Dome’. The pitch was quite a large undertaking for me at the time and my background was in book design so I asked a London based designer friend with a corporate identity background to work on it with me. We spent a week working on the project, Martin in London, me in Brighton and on the day before the pitch Martin came down to Brighton (about 50-60 miles away) with his material. He also brought down a gift for me which he had picked up in a street market in South London the day before. It was a large letterpress woodcut with the word ‘DOME’ on it - on closer inspection it turned out to be the original Brighton Dome ‘logo’ used in the 1950’s… how weird is that?
Unfortunately it's about half an inch too long to put on the vandercook without mashing it with the gripper bar... bah!
