Thanks to this Chinese take-out menu I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am an uber-design-nerd-dork. When was the last time you tried to divine the reasoning behind a font change between to similar pieces of information enclosed in a box?

The structure of a design tends to come from an analysis of the copy. The grid and the typography is aiming to articulate the information. This basic architecture happens first, then as a designer visual style is applied. The blocks of greens and blues emphasise the information but they are creating visual impact as well. A designer sees the informational needs as well as the compositional requirements.
