Manicuore is a hand-drawn typeface inspired on Italian movie posters by the prolific poster artist Symeoni (a.k.a. Sandro Simeoni). Being a talented and skilled painter, portraitist and illustrator, Symeoni enjoyed a long and fruitful career and was remarkably productive during the sixties and seventies. He counts over 3,000 works to his credit, which truly fed the imagination of several generations. This all-caps font brings different lettershapes on upper and lower case slots, which can work as alternates, providing handy options to spice up your compositions. When using it inside OpenType savvy applications just turn on contextual alternates feature to instantly cycle lettershapes – a one click way for adding spontaneity while also preventing neighbor double letters from using the same glyph. To put the icing on the cake, Manicuore brings a cool set of graphic elements that match the typeface look and feel.

Web typography? Sounds good, but looks awful! How to recognise poor web typography? Why is it that micro-typography on the Internet lags centuries behind? What is the connection between text lines and Laurel & Hardy? Why is web typography actually a misleading designation?
This newspaper tells in a nutshell what designers should keep in mind when deciding on typography for web users, including key design-elements and often overlooked facts.

A good typographic system, with an optimal contrast between different types of content, headlines, sub headlines, paragraphs, labels and so forth. However, having too many styles and weights within a layout is not recommended either.
This was an article about portuguese typography, so Orbe appears among other typefaces by other portuguese designers.
I posted this on Briar last year so excuse me if I'm repeating myself:
Several years ago I was asked to pitch for a corporate identity for the local concert hall ‘The Brighton Dome’. The pitch was quite a large undertaking for me at the time and my background was in book design so I asked a London based designer friend with a corporate identity background to work on it with me. We spent a week working on the project, Martin in London, me in Brighton and on the day before the pitch Martin came down to Brighton (about 50-60 miles away) with his material. He also brought down a gift for me which he had picked up in a street market in South London the day before. It was a large letterpress woodcut with the word ‘DOME’ on it - on closer inspection it turned out to be the original Brighton Dome ‘logo’ used in the 1950’s… how weird is that?
Unfortunately it's about half an inch too long to put on the vandercook without mashing it with the gripper bar... bah!
I hand made these 3D letters out of card for my graphic design project on typography. I experimented with composition and typefaces.

Day 111. i love it.
At one point this was the official Carnegie Mellon look, before they went to a member of the bodoni family, hyphen connected to the M and bendy n's and un-dotted i's. There is no longer any dash-mark at all. and all the other strangenesses (look at that g) have disappeared. April 21 2009.
