Amtrak's Pere Marquette is transitioning from the CSX Grand Rapids Subdivision to the Chicago Line of Norfolk Southern. Judging by the condition of the track this is a no man's land that neither railroad appears to want to do much more than minimal maintenance on this stretch of track in Porter, Indiana.
Came out of the SongFestival at 22:30 last night right at sunset and walked across the street to watch the gorgeous transition of day to night. There was a young lady who had performed earlier standing way out in the sea holding the hem of her long skirt above the water. Looked like a good time to bust out the Fuji. :)

I arrived safely in Washington after driving 2,349 miles from Alaska. I loved the drive and adventure. Being the driver, I didn't have much opportunity to take photos.
Now that I am in one place, I hope to catch up on your photostreams.
For the ::The Thematorium::CONTEST #116 :: TRANSITION
I rose at 5 a.m. today to head out to Longview Lake to shoot the Kansas City Triathlon at Longview Lake. The Transition area is where the athletes change over from the swim to the bike to the run. I tried a fisheye shot of the area. Unfortunately, those clouds on the fisheye horizon are weather in the Kansas City area that is volatile today and several nearby lightening sightings convinced the sponsors to cancel the event to be rescheduled.

On a walk around the city to catch up on what was happening. September 23,2014 Christchurch New Zealand.
The project is part of Christchurch City Council’s Transitional City Programme, a series of works to enhance the Central City while longer term projects come to fruition.
Mayor Dalziel says these projects add to a sense of vibrancy in the central city in a similar way that the Gap Filler and Greening the Rubble projects have done. The transition has created an opportunity for innovation and creativity to be unleashed in a way that provides the city with renewed energy.
“This is important for both residents and visitors. Pleasant public spaces provide the opportunity for people to meet, relax and be entertained. Bringing people into the Central City supports local businesses and encourages investment.”
Carolyn Ingles, the Council’s Urban Design and Regeneration Unit Manager, says there has been significant community input together with support from the local business community for this project.
“The business community has been asking for improvement to the area and it seemed a natural fit with the Transitional City Programme. The public of Christchurch expressed a desire for a greener, more sustainable Central City in the Council’s 2011 Share an Idea campaign. This is being realised in High Street through plantings, trees and works of art. Recycled or repurposed materials have been used wherever possible.”
The High Street transitional project has been a collaboration between the Christchurch City Council, Department of Conservation (DOC), CPIT and CERA.
Components of this project include:
Realigning High Street to make it safer for cycling and pedestrian traffic
Large colourful works of art and sculptures including Te Kiheru Wai ö Tahu (The canoe bailer of Tahu) and the High Street façade reflecting the history of the area
DOC information centre with an Urban Garden Oasis
Plastic traffic sheep to act as safety barriers, as well as provide seating
Portable planter boxes which also provide outdoor seating
Prior to the earthquakes, High Street was a destination as well as a thoroughfare with shops, hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars art galleries and offices. The tram line ran down the centre of the road and the street was known for its significant works of art. Historically this was a major route to Ferrymead and it remains a great link to and from Cathedral Square with the CPIT campus at the south eastern end.

The sun begins to set and the colors of this transition start off soft and muted, especially looking North. Reflections of the clouds are seen in Willow Lake from the Granite Dells.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (June 30, 2022) The U.S. Naval Academy welcomes the midshipman candidates, or plebes, of the Class of 2026 during Induction Day 2022. I-Day marks the beginning of a demanding six-week indoctrination period called Plebe Summer, intended to transition the candidates from civilian to military life. As the undergraduate college of our country's naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The sun sets at about 8:40 pm, but the illumination won't turn up until 9:30, so I couldn't capture the beautiful sky of sunset and the lit-up Eiffel Tower in a single image. So I came up with this idea to create a transition from daylight to night (left -> right) by combining these two images taken at 8 pm and 10 pm, so I can have the sunset sky and the illumination at the same time. Cheers!
I miss Paris already!

This creation was born out of one of the only times anyone has asked me to build something out of Lego. About 3 years ago my pastor asked me to create something original out of Lego that communicated the idea of eternity. I was in the middle of a large town layout project at the time, but I didn't forget his request. Just 2 months before Brickcon 2015 I was finally ready to take my town layout apart that I had spent 2 years perfecting, and with the help of my brother-in-law, disassembled it and sorted all the brick. I powered through the process, and built the whole thing in just under 2 months – the fastest I've ever built a large-scale creation like this. I was surprised, but the speed actually helped make the build better. I didn't have time to slow down and second guess myself or try something different, I just moved forward.
Description:
The man on the bridge has just died. On the earth stand all of his friends and family, all the people who loved him and cared about him during his life. They are watching him cross over to the other side. On the pillar of heaven stands a single figure, an angel, taking human form, waiting to greet him. Inside the guard outpost are supplies for the journey ahead.
The colors on the Foundation of Earth are meant to represent the layers of earth, starting with rock at the base, then stone, then clay, dirt, and grass at the top. The Foundation of Heaven begins with a crystalline structure, denoting design and order (it's actually modeled after the mythical city Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings) followed by a diamond layer above. The blue is a nod to the idea that heaven is in the clouds. Heaven has grass and flowers and trees because I liked the idea that God is drawing us towards something new yet familiar, and we won't be 'freaked out' when we die.
After the arrival and greeting, the path rises sharply after the outpost – this is to symbolize that while there is no pain or suffering in heaven, there is growth and new challenges. The flecks of dark red in the brown dirt atop the heaven pillar come from the description of the red stones found in heaven in Revelation chapter 21. It's the same with bits of gold found on the path (a reference to the 'streets of gold' (Revelation 21:21).
I made the man in his early 40's because I think it's an interesting idea that we can die at any time from something unexpected like heart disease or a car accident – and we have the opportunity now to allow ourselves to ponder what the afterlife will be like.
The angel and the man will walk the path together on their way to the holy city, the angel as the guide, while they talk and the man has a chance to ask questions and get some answers. The path goes on. The journey continues after death.

November is a time of transition in the Oklahoma Cross Timbers. The days are shorter, the air is crisper, colors richer and the final chapter of this year's wildflowers. We usually think of spring as the season of renewal, but for white-tailed deer regeneration begins with November's rut. This little spike won't participate this year, but he is intrigued by the frenetic activity of the deer herd.
