A hint of color change at the lake

Between autumn and winter - brilliant colors against the blue of a clear sky, after the day before brought significant snowfall to the Cathedral Mountains.

This buck is transitioning with the seasons, from winter to spring. He is molting heavily, eating fresh greens instead of dried sticks and showing the beginnings of new antlers covered in velvet.

All images and textures are my own.

we sit here, somewhere between winter and spring. every year, same thing. just hoping the last snow doesn't kill off the baby flowers. sheesh, already!

.. found in Lampertheim .. happy Thursday!

This is the last of four images I'm posting in sequence from a tremendous morning back in September. All are of the same scene, looking down from near the top of Mam Tor across the Hope Valley (Derbyshire, England) during a temperature inversion when a sea of fog was lapping against the hills. Sunrise was at 6:50, so they span the blue hour to the point at which the post-sunrise light started to get a little harsher.

If you get a touch of déjà vu, that's because you really have seen a couple of them before. One was on my stream for about 36 hours before I stupidly, and in total error, erased it... doh!...another I more recently deleted as I've decided I now want them all together and in order as a record of the transition. Not good etiquette to post-erase-repost, but there you go. I'll conquer my embarrassment, no doubt :-)

Very best wishes for the New Year to all Flickr Friends. Hope you all have excellent snapping in 2017!

autumn has begun here in wisconsin. cooler temps, changing light, a few leaves on the ground. each transition—even if uncomfortable—creates space for reflection, insight, creativity, and growth.

I love photos like this when I frame something in my minds eye and it comes to reality when I get home on the computer. I took my time and waited for the light to be spot on. There was a sweet softness to the image that I was drawn to.

All the other birds were in their breeding plumage so this beauty stood out from the crowd.

C&A makes its twice weekly run down to Elizabeth City, NC, passing the grain elevators in Shawboro, NC. 2 years ago, you would not have seen any orange G&W locomotives on this line. Instead, you would have been treated to 2 GP7 in C&A and SCRF paint, but in 2023 you can now see the slow transition to the G&W company's livery on GP38 locomotives, the new normal in 2023.

Another attempt at visual auto-biography using Leica M8 and Elmar 50/2.8. The image has been cropped (and I may need a longer lens).

After 2 and a half days in Kentucky we transitioned about 2 hours south to Tennessee for another 2 and a half days where the habitat favored some other species in addition to some of the same ones.

Capture taken this morning while on a two mile hike with the dogs. It was cloudy, so the CPL filter came in real handy to capture the deep colors. The dogs were patient with my sitting still when ever I stopped to have a 'photo session'.

YET THE END REALLY FALL OR THE BEGINNING OF WINTER

Night to day

Fall to winter

Subalpine forest to alpine tundra

East slope to west slope

Fairweather to stormy weather

A view toward the Continental Divide, with Mount Neva (r) and Jasper (center of the 3 summits on the left) and the valley of the middle fork of Boulder Creek. The first winter storm of the season is showing up in the guise of clouds on the horizon, and within an hour sleet and high winds out of the west would signal the weather change in the higher elevations.

I will be taking advantage of the fall season and my status as a retired person to camp among the aspen trees this week, so will be absent from Flickr.

The transition of the seasons is one of the most beautiful in autumn to winter time. The colours are stunning and the lighting is soft…

This small waterfall is located in a forest area in the Bavarian alps…!Very nice hike with my friend Billy ,discovering a couple more cascades above of this one.

Good weekend everyone.

The sunniest parts of my yard are definitely starting to show signs of summer. Summer has become a bittersweet season for those of us living in the foothills. The flowers enter full bloom, but the heat and fire danger is a constant worry--not to mention those pesky power shutdowns. Oh well, just more stuff to deal with in an already long year of dealing with stuff..
