According to Christian tradition, Mount Tabor is the site of the Transfiguration of Christ, during which Jesus began to radiate light and was seen conversing with Moses and Elijah. In 1924, an impressive Roman Catholic church of the Franciscan order was built on the peak of Mount Tabor, Church of the Transfiguration. (WIkipedia)
A Ukrainian Catholic church and cemetery on pretty well-maintained grounds. It was built in 1941, but I couldn't find out when it was put out of regular use.

[from Wiki] The original Transfiguration Cathedral in Odesa was demolished by the Soviets in 1936. It was rebuilt starting from 1999. The new cathedral was consecrated in 2003. The remains of Vorontsov and his wife were subsequently reburied in the cathedral. There is a statue of him on the cathedral square. The cathedral bells are controlled by an electronic device capable of playing 99 melodies.

Orthodox Church Of The Transfiguration Of Our Lord In Pärnu, Estonia.
The historic old-Russian-style cross-shaped building was erected in 1904. It belongs to the Estonian congregation of the Apostolic Orthodox Church. There is a plaque to Father Mihkel Suigusaar in the southeastern corner of the churchyard.

Only the floor tiles and windows were spared from painted over with pictures of saints. Even the inside of each cupola was painted.
Transfiguration Cathedral, Suzdal, Russia (Monday 20 Aug 2012 @ 5:36pm)
The "Transfiguration" is Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino's last painting. The painting was intended to be an altarpiece for a cathedral in France and painting was almost completed by Raphael himself. After his premature death. only some figures on the lower left required some finishing touches by assistants.
Raphael has designed and painted a painting with two balanced and complementary halves. From its completion in 1520 it was hailed as a masterpiece and it is widely admired as one of the great oil paintings.
On the upper half, is the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor. Jesus, flanked by the Prophets Moses and Elijah, is bathed in a radiance of bright light. Below the Apostles Peter, James, and John who had accompanied Jesus to the mountain awaken to the scene.
Below is a subsequent episode from the Gospels, the healing of a possessed boy. The miraculously healed child and his watchful father, are surrounded by a crowd in turmoil. Some gape and draw attention to the miracle, while other point up to the figure of Transfigured Christ above.
The painting, bright and tranquil/calm above, darker and in confusion below, shows both the contrast and connection between God and mankind. Some consider the painting to be proto-Baroque because of its use of contrast, grand, deep vibrant colours, and detail.

A few minutes before low Mass (in Latin in the extraordinary form of the Roman rite) at the altar of Blessed Innocent XI in St. Peter's Basilica at Rome.
Apparently, the artwork above the altar is a mosaic reproduction (1767) of Raphael's Transfiguration (1516-1520), the original of which is in the Pinacoteca of Pius VII in the Vatican Museums.
With the Tetons as a background, Chapel of the Transfiguration simply take in its awe-inspiring views.

Ninilchik, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. This church is on the National Register of Historic Places. Before Alaska was American, it was Russian. Or rather, the Russian fur traders did great business there. From 1763 to 1867 the Russians held trading posts and colonies along the western coast of North America. Naturally, their religion followed them. This church and its churchyard attracted my attention, and I hope my photograph does it justice. This is really a beautiful, peaceful place.

On Saturday I had a really great day shooting with Jenn, Linda, Andy, Lorna, Clay, Ray, and my wife Sharon. We started at Spaca Moskalyk, we then made our way to the Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church at Round Hill where we were let in to see the interior by our most gracious host Gerald. After the church visit a bunch of us headed to the Bruce Hotel for their wonderful Saturday evening Steak & Shrimp Dinner!!
The Cathedral of the Transfiguration is a Slovak Byzantine Rite Roman Catholic cathedral located in Markham, Ontario, Canada.
The first North American house of worship ever consecrated by a Pope when John Paul II blessed the altar, cornerstone and bronze plaques during his visit to Toronto in September 1984.
Unfortunately, the Cathedral's now vacant.
