The Church of the Transfiguration sits in the Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

Had a little time between loads and found these drying flowers. Was hoping to come up with something unique.

The Transfiguration Cathedral in the Pereslavl Kremlin was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152. It was completed under Andrei Bogolyubsky in 1157. It functions as a branch of the city museum-Reserve. Access inside is restricted. The cathedral is the only one of the first five white-stone churches of North-Eastern Russia that has come down to us almost in complete preservation. Many princes of Pereslavl were baptized in the cathedral, including Alexander Nevsky, who was born in Pereslavl in 1221.

In the XIII—XIV centuries, the Transfiguration Cathedral was the tomb of the Pereslavl appanage princes.

The Church of the Transfiguration (Russian: Церковь Преображения Господня). Its altar was laid June 6, 1714, as inscribed on the cross located inside the church. This church was built on the site of the old one which was burnt by lightning. The builders' names are unknown. A legend tells that the main builder used one axe for the whole construction, which he threw into the lake upon completion with the words "there was not and will be not another one to match it".

The church has 22 domes and with a height of 37 meters is one of the tallest wooden buildings in Northern Europe. Its perimeter is 20×29 meters. It is considered that the 18-dome church on the southern shore of Lake Onega — built in 1708 and destroyed by fire in 1963 - was its forerunner. According to the Russian carpentry traditions of that time, the Transfiguration Church was built of wood only with no nails apart from the domes and roof shingles. There are approximately 180,000 nails securing the 60,000 roof shingles.

The church framework rests on a stone base without a deep foundation, except for the western aisle for which a foundation was built in 1870. Most wood is pine with spruce planks on the flat roofs. The domes are covered in aspen.

The Chapel of the Transfiguration, Grand Teton National Park, Moose, Wyoming. Owned and operated by St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson, Wyoming, the chapel was constructed in 1925 from lodgepole pine. The chapel and accessory buildings were designed by C.B. Loomis in a rustic style, also called Western Craftsman. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The chapel was featured in the movie Spencer's Mountain starring Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara. The transfiguration of Jesus is a story told in the New Testament when Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. Title quote by James Hillman.

The Transfiguration of the Lord is one of the twelve scenes of the Mother of God and Christological cycles, inscribed in a golden arcade and located on both sides of the central composition.

In the lower part of the scene are the figures of the three apostles struck by a miracle - Peter, James and John, who came to Mount Tabor (later called the Mount of Transfiguration) to pray.

Peter is shown on the right. John the Evangelist is traditionally represented in the center. The Apostle James is depicted on the left, turned away and as if fallen. With one hand he holds on to a rock.

At the top of the mountain, Jesus begins to glow with bright rays of light. According to the Old Testament, the figures of the Old Testament prophets Elijah and Moses appear next to him.

In iconographic images, Moses usually holds a book or, in later versions, the tablets of the Testament in his hands. In this image, Moses stands on the right (on the left in the photo) and holds the “tablet of revelation” in his hand. He represents the dead, while Elijah the Prophet, ascended in a fiery chariot, speaks on behalf of the living.

On the right, the sail depicts John the Evangelist, the author of the Gospel of John.

Taken with the Lee Big Stopper. decided to leave the CA in there , took out too much sky detail if i corrected it. This is an incredible piece of architecture .

Some Features of this Church - Among its features is the world's largest three bell carillon, with the French made bells by the Fonderie Paccard, weighing 32,000 pounds, and 300 cm diameter. The mosaics are reputed to contain about 5 million pieces. The cathedral was built to hold 1000 worshipers serving a community of about 5000 Byzantine Rite Catholics in the GTA and 35,000 across Canada. The central tower rises 63 metres (about 20 storeys) and is topped by a gold onion dome. The church was designed by Donald Buttress, a renowned architect whose claim to fame is overhauling Westminster Abbey. It is a significant landmark east of the 404 highway.

The Church of the Transfiguration

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an event reported by the Synoptic Gospels in which Jesus is transfigured upon a mountain Jesus becomes radiant, speaks with Moses and Elijah, and is called "Son" by God. The transfiguration put Jesus above Moses and Elijah, the two preeminent figures of Judaism.

The refectory church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the Vydubitsky Monastery. Like the church of St. George the Victorious, this one was built in the early 18th century by Colonel Mikhail Miklashevsky. The church is stone, one-story, and has the shape of an elongated rectangle.

The monastery was established between 1070 and 1077 by Vsevolod, son of Yaroslav the Wise. It was a family cloister of Vsevolod's son Vladimir Monomakh and his descendants.Only a few churches of this monastery have survived over the centuries. One of these is the Collegiate Church of Saint Michael, which was built on behest of Vsevolod I and partly reconstructed between 1766 and 1769 by architect M. I. Yurasov. The Ukrainian baroque structures include the magnificent 5-domed St. George Cathedral, Transfiguration of the Saviour Church and refectory, all dating from 1696-1701. A belltower, commissioned by the Hetman Danylo Apostol, was erected in 1727-33 and built up in 1827-31.

In fact the whole village is named after the Saviour. Sotira in Greek means Saviour. Sotira is a well-known village in the Ammochostos (Famagusta) area of Cyprus and plenty of old churches have survived in the village centre. The "Church of the Metamorphosis/Transfiguration of Christ" is currently closed. There is archaeological work going on, but the building was too small anyway and, in the 20th century, had been replaced by the "Church of the Metamorphosis/Transfiguration of Jesus". I'll come back to this interesting change of title. This old church here goes back to the 13th century, back to the time of the crusades and the French occupation of Cyprus. The building began as a simple barrel roof construction. In Venetian times, the dome was added, and the spire, also in Venetian style, is a 19th century product (still built during the Ottoman occupation). The archaeological dig showed that this church is resting on foundations of a fifth century Christian basilica. So, the question of who the Saviour is, has always been central to this village. Metamorphosis or Transfiguration denotes the visible appearance of Jesus, not as man, but as God. But "Christ"? Christ is already a title presupposing divinity, no need to transfigure here. That is why, I would guess, that in the 20th century the title was changed to transfiguration of Jesus. It makes more sense. Sense is, of course, in the eye of the beholder. If, as Christian doctrine has it, Jesus Christ was one person, but had two natures (God and Man), and if the Trinity consist of three persons, but having only on nature, there is trouble if you apply Aristotelian logic. Things are made not easier by the gospel of John which stipulates that Christ was always there with God and, therefore, had pre-existence. If you find this difficult, it only means that your mind is working. The question of who the Saviour is is not a puzzle the mind can resolve. But if you sing the question, turn it into sound, or into vision, you may be on a different path. Fuji X-Pro3.

The Transfiguration Cathedral (Romanian: Catedrala Schimbarea la Faţă), also known as the Minorites' Church, constructed in 1803 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

In 1924 Pope Pius XI gave the church building to the Greek-Catholic Church to serve as the cathedral of the Cluj-Gherla Eparchy. When the Greek-Catholic Church was dissolved in 1948 by the Communist regime, the church was taken over by the Romanian Orthodox Church. After the decline of Communism (1989), the Greek-Catholic Church got back the building. (Wikipedia)

Transfiguration of our Lord Russian Orthodox Church, Ninilchik, Alaska, 2011.

In the New Testament, the Transfiguration of Jesus is an event where Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew 17:1–8, Mark 9:2–8, Luke 9:28–36) describe it, and the Second Epistle of Peter also refers to it (2 Peter 1:16–18). It has also been hypothesized that the first chapter of the Gospel of John alludes to it (John 1:14).

In these accounts, Jesus and three of his apostles, Peter, James, and John, go to a mountain (later referred to as the Mount of Transfiguration) to pray. On the mountaintop, Jesus begins to shine with bright rays of light. Then the Old Testament figures Moses and Elijah appear next to him and he speaks with them. Both figures had eschatological roles: they summarize the Law and the prophets, respectively. Jesus is then called "Son" by a voice assumed to be God the Father, as in the Baptism of Jesus.

Many Christian traditions, including the Eastern Orthodox, Catholic Church, Lutheran and Anglican churches, commemorate the event in the Feast of the Transfiguration, a major festival. In Greek Orthodoxy, the event is called the metamorphosis.
