This lovely drake Teal was sat pretty close to the hide at Greylake with the light directly behind the bird (side on and this would have been spot on - however that's just being picky to the extreme) and when a peregrine falcon began to stir things up further back on the reserve I could see he was preparing to go.

This "shall I, shan't I" seemed to go on for an age and I have to admit I would look away to check on what else was happening - however I was luckily still watching when he finally lifted off. I'm pleased with this as it captures some of the energy of taking off from water and I was quite surprised to see the angle of the body to the wing - at first I thought there was another hiding behind him.

Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make its colors appear. :)

Pittock Mansion, Portland, Oregon.

Come no further, you go too far

I'm running 'round in circles once again

If you can't forgive me, I won't take it very hard

But I won't make it easy in the end

So scatter all my ashes when I'm dead

And shatter every legend in my head

If only the contented will survive

Is anybody here still left alive?

First time back to Balcome Viaduct in this project, now I've moved house it's not quite so convenient to get to!

Thanks to my "willing" leg model for the help.

HSS!

Look up at the sky, realize you're made up of what's up there. Realize you're so small, but you're still relevant and important to the grand scheme of things.

Without you, all matter and energy would be thrown off.

Look at your hand and say, "My little atoms are keeping the Universe in balance."

In my head -- I'm amazing!!

Strobist:

Action figure -- One Vivitar 285HV @ 1/16th power, standing on the table to camera right, diffused by a bounce card rubber-banded to the strobe. Fill light provided by sheet of printer paper just to the left.

Human head -- AB800 @ 1/16th power diffused by white fabric to camera right, and fill light provided by Vivitar mentioned above held in subjects right hand.

Fourth shot for the shot a day in April 2014. This is a composite image from the back garden. The sky was crystal clear and the moon was looking good, so one shot of the moon, The street lights are visible from the back garden... when the camera is supported by Brian the 3 Legged thing. Buzz was shot in the comfort of the living room. So putting all 3 together made for this practice composite. Hope you like it, even if your not a fan of Buzz.

The attempt was to get a more defined shot of the infinity reflection, but some lady walked in on me.

More frightening when viewed large.

To infinity, and beyond!

Yes, it's time for a project 365 again and this time I'm going to finish it. :)

I know what I face, and I know I WILL regret this decision a thousand times during the project. But I also know that I eventually will love every picture that I took during the project, even if I dislike/hate them the time I uploaded them. And the only way to learn is to do it.

So, with that said it's time to start the adventure...to infinity and beyond!

Cory and I celebrated my survival of the first week of my masters program by treating ourselves to Toy Story 3 (in 3D of course). I was eight years old when I saw the first one: I remember my family and I won tickets to go to an advanced screening. It's been so great to watch the saga of these characters and be a witness to the advancement of animation arts.

HBM everyone! And don't even ask me how Cory was able to balance himself up there. I tried and failed, haha. Maybe he really is Buzz Lightyear... Hmmm?? :D

Single long exposure, no photoshop tricks.

This photograph was made of 165 twenty-second exposures of the southern sky against a few rows of moonlit sunflowers. A Tiffen Double Fog 2 filter was used to soften the moonlight and increase the size of the stars imaged through the wide angle lens. A total exposure time of 55 minutes was achieved. A Canon T2i with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens was used with stacking in StarStaX.

One night Before the Maximum of the Geminids, I captured more than 20 meteors in 140 minutes. What a great meteor shower!

Photo details: Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D;Focal Length: 24mm; Aperture: f/1.8; Exposure Time: 15 s for each shot; ISO: 8000, more than 20 exposure are stacked.

Huaer tai, Fangshan district, Beijing, China.

Shot through the arches of Balcome Viaduct, just outside Haywards Heath in West Sussex. Fantastic old Victorian viaduct, 1474 feet long and 96 feet high it's in use on the main London to Brighton line and around 110 trains a day pass over it. You have to cross a plowed field to get underneath the structure and we've had a lot of rain just lately, I also only had my trainers on - result very wet and muddy feet and almost the embarrassment of landing on my backside in front of a packed commuter train.

This is another exposure fusion shot of three exposures at -2, 0 and +2 EV, originally shot in colour and converted to B+W after fusion. I also did a bit of selective dodging and burning as even after fusion there were a couple of areas that needed tweaking.

HSS folks!

epic thanks to Tom for the loan of his scanner.

[taken at Medina Azahara museum, Córdoba, Spain]

Medina Azahara, meaning "brilliant town" is the ruins of a vast, fortified Arab Muslim medieval palace-city built by Abd-ar-Rahman III al-Nasir, (912–961) Ummayad Caliph of Córdoba, and located on the western outskirts of Córdoba, Spain.

It was an Arab Muslim medieval town and the de-facto capital of al-Andalus, or Muslim Spain, as the heart of the administration and government was within its walls. Built beginning in 936-940, the city included ceremonial reception halls, mosques, administrative and government offices, gardens, a mint, workshops, barracks, residences, and baths. Water was supplied through aqueducts.

The main reason for its construction was politico-ideological: the dignity of the Caliph required the establishment of a new city, a symbol of his power, imitating other Eastern Caliphates. Above all, it demonstrated his superiority over his great rivals, the Fatimids of Ifriqiya in Northern Africa. Legend also says it was built as a tribute to the favourite of the Caliph: Azahara.[from Wikipedia]

Foto realizada para el reto semanal de #FlickrFriday dedicada al tema #ToInfinityAndBeyond. Buzz Light Year sabe bien de qué va el tema, Guille y Marta en teoría, también.

this is John. john is a very nice man, very decent, and sympathetic. I met him that day, and he's also a lover of photography. GOD bless you john !

short break before heading back...

"People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering."

– St. Augustine

And I remember that summer. It was a summer of sun rays and wavy days. But I was all alone in my own shell. I felt stuck. And fucked up. Guess I just haven't figured out life yet. After a year being on the road, I came back, and I didn't feel like I belong to where I called home anymore. These feet were meant to come across the ocean, climb the Everest, touch down every land on planet Earth. But home, it didn't make me happy like travel did. And just like every 20-some-thing out there whom used to experience this moment, I hid. I loved hiding outta the coast and took a long walk on the beach till twilight. I loved climbing up the rooftop laying there watching nightsky. All I did was trying to achieve a peace of mind, of what it's like to be free with the nature again. And I failed, unfortunately. But the sun, the moon, the cloud, the sky, the stars, the sea have taught me that happiness and a peace of mind can only be achieved when I stop waiting for it and make something of the moment I'm in right now. That untangled my mind. And it was priceless more than anything.

Thanks to #FlickFriday with such an interesting theme this week as I have chance to show my feelings. This one is also a snippet of an upcoming project I'm working on.

You can't focus past infinity, so I stopped there. But the space fox will probably carry on beyond.

LPOD on June 7, 2013 -- lpod.wikispaces.com/June+7%2C+2013

A bright meteor along with the full "flower" moon are seen illuminating the Lancaster, PA countryside. The image was made of 415 twenty second exposures (about 2.5 hours). Each image was taken with a Canon T2i (f/5.0 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens @ 14 mm / ISO 400) and stacked using StarStax. This must have been some meteor! I unfortunately must have been looking away but at least it was captured in the image.

To infinity and beyond

Buzz Lightyear to the rescue

My FlickrFriday submission with my only child who was up for the challenge...

It's a shame I had only my cellphone to capture this beautiful sky...

Couple more from t'other day!

Last Saturday we attended the first mass gathering for what seems like forever. Friends of ours got married and what a fantastic day it was. The rain held off for all the important parts, the company was great, the food was lovely and the venue had an interesting garden. Win all round.

All this meant we had to come up with a suitable wedding gift. After a bit of indecisiveness it was deemed that an embellished map of where they live would hopefully hit the target. Veering slightly from our usual course of something subversive or tongue in cheek we just went with something sweet and romantic - it is a wedding gift after all. ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ is the final result complete with wedding monogram. They seemed to like it at least and that’s more than enough for me.

Cheers

My submission for the Flickr Friday's "To Infinity And Beyond" theme.

This quilt was made using Lecien fabrics: First of Infinity and L's Modern Basics. The checker block was designed by Jess from

theelvengarden.blogspot.ca/ I moved the blocks around and around until I settled on this layout! It measures 47x60

I used 5 colours of Aurifil 40wt thread to do organic grid quilting. For the back, I used some leftover fabrics with white and grey- it's a little off kilter, but who cares!!

I'm sure by now you are all sick and tired of seeing these star and milky way photos from me...I just can't get enough of them as of late. Part of it is just due to the fact that I find the stars and milky way to be so interesting and the other part is knowing the adventures Ed Brice and I have gone on to get these shots as of late.

I'll try to throw some of my normal types of photos into the mix as to not bore anyone with the onslaught of these photos. :-)

This photo here was taken over at Navajo Point up at the Grand Canyon. I happened to capture what I believe to be a satellite streaking across the sky. The reason why I say it's a satellite as to the naked eye it didn't appear to be a normal shooting star...who knows perhaps it was a UFO?! ;-)

Edit: By the comments below, it looks like it was actually the International Space Station crossing by. Got lucky on this one!
