“Your days are numbered. Use them to throw open the windows of your soul to the sun. If you do not, the sun will soon set, and you with it.” ~ Marcus Aurelius
One of my favorite things is to start climbing a tall mountain below the clouds. Dim, muted, damp. In time, you find yourself within the clouds, picking your way through the chilly fog, seeing only glimpses of what lies ahead, and traveling mostly by feel or following the steps of those that went before. Then, with little warning, you emerge above them--into the vastness of blue sky, while light and warmth envelope you. Everything is clear, vibrant, and crisp. The world below is but a memory while you reside in the domain of light.

12500 views in 24 hours. Thank you every one. And to the two hundred plus who added it to their faves. Day 2 added another 5000 views.
Crossed this ice cave off my bucket list about a month ago. Last Saturday, a friend dropped me a note saying that the ice cave has started to crumble. I Googled and saw pics from the collapsed ice cave entrance - those ice blocks that broke off are bigger than my car! Glad it happened in the middle of the night and that no one was hurt. I am reminded of how standing in the middle of this huge blue ice cave was so surreal, and now it kinda spooks me out too to know it could have happened when I was there... Glad i am still here, alive and kicking... but most importantly, feeling most glad that I made it to the cave before it caved in! :)
Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka, Saiph, and Rigel. Sound like an ancient spell? Possible. Arabic-stemming-names of constellation Orion bodies (top left). The latter star’s 279,000 times-as-bright as our sun’s luminosity has taken 863 light-years to reach the human eye. And, as the Hunter travels the southern night sky in perpetual unperturbed search of his prey, here, on terra firma, the small hours of another day find an eastbound Eastern Washington Gateway movement going head-to-head with a vaporous, otherworldly apparition - Orion's Ghost - just west of Creston. “It is a happiness to wonder; it is a happiness to dream.” ~ Edgar Allan Poe
I believe our dreams, sleeping or awake, can influence us just as much real events. They change our feelings, then our perceptions and actions, and therefore our reality.
Colorado Springs typically gets 300 days of sunshine a year. I was lucky enough to get the rare 65 days of not too awesome weather when we were there- that seems to be the case too often though. So it was snowing buckets with snowstorm warnings from the time we landed till the day we departed. As the plane took off back to PDX, there was blue skies, sunshine and the rocky mountains in the distance... rubbing it all into our faces. Here's a snowy one from the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Happy Sunday everyone! :)
Part way down the run on the Rio Alseseca in Veracruz, Mexico the canyon walls narrowed to where the thick jungle overhead created a tunnel. As we approached the end of this amazing stretch of river the jungle opened to allow beams of sun to shine in.
I notice that I have a predilection for leading lines when I compose landscape images. Everything we choose to photograph and the way we photograph it says something about us. So what does this mean? Suggestions please...........

I was lucky to catch the northern lights for a couple of nights when I was backpacking in Yukon, Canada. This is one of the many shots I have, and I am still processing the rest. Wrote a blog entry on this spectacular place (link above), check it out for more photos and a more detailed narrative of my adventure in the Tombstone Territorial Park!

There's always something about stars that fascinates me, maybe because it's not something we see often. You'd typically have to get out of the city and get away from all the light pollution to get a clear view of the starry skies. Was at the Oregon Coast over the weekend and saw countless shooting stars streaking across the sky. Then as I was looking at the sky to figure out a frame, I was like "Hey Ben, isn't the sky looking kinda green?"
