“Poetry, she thought, wasn't written to be analyzed; it was meant to inspire without reason, to touch without understanding.”

BLOOD OF EDEN – PETER GABRIEL & SINEAD O'CONNOR
... And when you left the fields of yellow
faded in the winds of time
the golden ears of corn bowed down
finally beyond all reason or rhyme
But now my heart has risen up
the fields are red adorned with flowers
the bluest mountains reach towards the heavens
the promise of Spring is surely ours
I thought there would never be anyone else
to replace you in my field of dreams
but gentle words flow like a river
and settle within me or so it seems
I want to believe in the everafter
when our souls will meet again
but for now I must seek the quantum of solace
in the absence of the gentlest rain
The silent tears roll down the years
and bathe me in a rosy glow
the sunshine warms me; holds me closely
I feel immense that all I know
Is carefully parcelled; tied with ribbon
red velvet bow soft to the touch
a secret gift to be opened slowly
unwrapped; unveiled and loved so much
Inspiration is my succour
that piques my salient desires
I know that you will understand me
be happy someone tends these fires
the burning embers that you left me
now ashes crumble in the dirt
dust is dust that once was earthbound
in Heaven there is no more hurt
My heart sings out the freedom of nature
like a bird on the wing I soar so high
above the mountains through the clouds
swooping towards an open sky
I reach the stars just as the night falls
and cloaks the earth in silent reverie
sweet dreams my love; I know you're smiling
your generosity sets me free
Love is freedom to be ourselves
no matter what direction we take
the ones who love us are happy for us
and theirs is the love we do not forsake
Be still my beating heart; be silent
only when the end is nigh
for I am alive and my joie de vie
my joy of life cannot be denied ...

Another photo from my recent Palouse road trip.
There is an area just north of Dodge, WA that has a gazillion wind turbines. I first encountered them after dark, when thousands of red lights appeared on the side of the road. The next day's travel confirmed that those lights belonged to wind turbines.
I count 18 separate turbines in this photo, including two that are just over the horizon on the very left of the image.
In the foreground, you can see the start of a service road that snakes beside each of the wind turbines.
This photo was taken against a backdrop of mean looking storm clouds. Their dark nature is what I actually saw. With that backdrop, the white wind turbines really stand out.
This is another one of my photos that I'm presenting slightly larger than I usually do, since there are a lot of interesting details in this photo.
Breathtaking view from the top of Rochers de Naye , 2042 m, next to Montreux, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. These are the PreAlps but at the background you can see the Alps and down under the fog is Lac Lèman/ Geneva lake. This picture was taken in a sunny day of March , 2013. The feeling to stay at that point is ... amazing .

Flat calm and misty this morning on Belfast Lough. Kinnegar Jetty was quite clear but you couldn't see the other side of the lough at all. As well as the usual seagulls, there were a fair few terns perching on the cables as well :)

In the last few years, there's have been several photos that I've really wanted to capture for myself. A number of these have actually been in Namibia and one of them was capturing the amazing-looking quiver trees (Kokerbooms) under the Milky Way.
This was my fourth shooting location in Namibia, but one of my favourites. Sadly, the next place after this was about an 8 hours drive away in the very north of the country.
If you fancy learning some astrophotography, why not come along to my workshop in Iceland this September.

Join me for a landscape and post-processing workshop in Iceland, Sept 2014.
We'd been told that seeing the aurora was hit and miss. We'd planned our trip for one of the (predicted) best months and best years for the northern lights. The people we stayed with on the first night said that the previous group had visited Iceland seven time and still not seen them. With all this in mind, we started our road trip with the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and stopped for some astrophotography next to Kirkjufell. As we were shooting the Milky Way, the aurora borealis started to become apparent.
It grew more intense as the night went on and was almost like a mist surrounding us. As we explored the local area, we found this field of horses. The northern lights seem liked they were erupting out of this hill/mountain, so I figured it might make a nice shot.

My chaotic bundle of joy and life. My superdog George.
BTW note those pointed toes! :)
Funny side note, I found this perfectly sized superman cape on men's superman boxers. It was detachable and everything! I told Nick he could have the boxer's but I guess they weren't his style.
A pretty strenuous hike with some elevation gain and scrambling (understatement) to find THIS GINORMOUS ICE CAVE! Dripping wet in the cave with plenty of splashes making it pretty hard to shoot. Standing in the middle of this huge blue ice cave, über SURREAL. Definitely one of the places that you got to see for yourself. Crossed out yet another place off my bucket list. :)
“Your days are numbered. Use them to throw open the windows of your soul to the sun. If you do not, the sun will soon set, and you with it.” ~ Marcus Aurelius
One of my favorite things is to start climbing a tall mountain below the clouds. Dim, muted, damp. In time, you find yourself within the clouds, picking your way through the chilly fog, seeing only glimpses of what lies ahead, and traveling mostly by feel or following the steps of those that went before. Then, with little warning, you emerge above them--into the vastness of blue sky, while light and warmth envelope you. Everything is clear, vibrant, and crisp. The world below is but a memory while you reside in the domain of light.
