Todo board for the slip method

A magnet board made from an old picture frame and some weathered galvanised steel. The action slips are arranged in context groups, e.g. 'dry weather', 'daytime', 'neutral' etc. with symbol and code magnets giving further information, and identifying the actions on the time graph to the right.

The advantage of writing a todo list on individual slips is the flexibility of being able to rearrange them, and move the slips to wherever they may be needed at any given time, e.g. from conception on the move to a project file, to the tickler, to the todo board, and maybe to a portable mini folder/wallet as a reminder when on the go, and perhaps back into the tickler for rescheduling. When the job is done, the slip is removed and the integrety of the list retained. The slip can also have additional, possibly dynamic information added to it, like context or symbols for importance, effort , concentration or time required, or any other criteria.

My to-do list today (or at least what it felt like). And at the end of the day, it didn't look any different.

The To - Do symbol is an empty square box. If it has a dot in the box, it's a priority for the day. A check mark means it's done. A horizontal line means it's deferred to another day. An X through the box means I'm not going to do it. A 'P' means I've made progress. A 'D' means I've delegated it to someone else. A 'T' means that I need tools I don't currently have to do this task, and that I've added getting those tools to the to-do list. The to-do symbols were borrowed from Bill Westermann's system.

I also have pages that are notes about specific subjects -- movies or bands I want to see or hear, websites people tell me about, and so on. There's a whole raft of these symbols now, as my life gets more complicated. Some are borrowed from others.

Update, December 4, 2008: This system reached 3,000 views. It's my most popular photo by a factor of three, I think.

This is getting stuff done!! I’ve been using and adopting several best practices to not only get things done this year, but get the right things done- the things that really need to be done and completed. It’s an amazing feeling of accomplishment to actually complete projects, get results, or however you want to view it!

Thats my hipster PDA, to-do list, whatever you call it.

It become my rough-boo, where i just paint all rubbish on it... and of coz, i m using recycle paper. After the damage, i will keep those pages which i think its useful to me, and discard the rest. Supply for this notebook is endless... just pop by any office, and ask them to donate some recycle paper to you, and this book just keep going.

Don't be fooled by his cute list. He's got plans...BIG plans.

So I’m indulging - eating gelato, watching an old CSI with an amusing sci-fi theme, and making up a to-do list for the week… What are you doing in the middle of the night?

Alan Rust - my to-do list has “fix the ceramic finger” on it!!

Ever feel like you just have to much to do?

It seems I had a little to much time on my hands today, so clearly, I don't actually have to much to do :P All in all this took about an hour and a half to do. Had to get the ideas for what to write on each one. Then had to cut the post-it notes down to size. Then had to write on each one followed by finding out that they didn't stick well enough for the shot. Solved that by adding tape to each one.

Then came the meticulous task of putting each one on. There was some order meant here. But most of these just ended up in random places, with the exception of a few. I will say, it did feel a little weird having all of these on my face. I couldn't let myself make any facial expressions because I risked making them fall off if I did. I couldn't even open my mouth. I will say, it did feel a little weirder than the Christmas lights :P

then came shooting, which didn't take very long. After a few practice shots to set up and all, I ended up taking about 20 photos. I must say, I am pleased with how it come out :)

It is much easier to read if you View Large

I came home today and found this in front of my house. I feel bad they didn't even get to finish the list. I hope they can remember the names.

I use igtd to manage my to-do-list based on GTD and use google calendar to mange my calendar. I use google calendar's ical address sync with iCal. In the end use the missing sync to sync all my todos and calendars with my Palm Treo 650. Life with Mac and Google is perfect.
