Succesful release (launch) of a paper hot air balloon.
August 31st, 2008 near Colon, Qro. México.
This balloon was made by my friend Alejandro Parra.
This is a detail of an 8x10" mixed media collage on canvas board. I used many materials and tools: watercolor & acrylic paints; inks and stains; stamps & stencils; scrapbook, magazine & tissue papers; markers & permanent pens; and a sticker.
I've been having lots of fun at The Dal House forum in recent months. October is the Dal Project Runway challenge that Offgenemi/gochemoche is hosting.
This is for Challenge #1, where we are supposed to create an outfit for Dal made out of paper, or paper-based materials. Use of adhesives like tape & glue is fine, as are sewing materials like needle and thread.
I'm a bit behind...and finding it challenging to make the idea in my head become a reality. Also, it's taking longer than I thought it would...but no surprise there. I always seem to underestimate the amount of time I will need to do something. I hope to finish it by this weekend so I can work on the next challenge.
Here's another set of postcards I made, this one using paper napkins.
(See my Recycled Tissue Paper Postcards blog post for full project instructions.)
this week in my jar ... an art tag I made using a vintage photo printed onto painted and waxed tissue paper with silk ribbon and text that reads "in springtime" and decorated with a pressed flower from my garden ... love the girls' springtime bonnets
the tag was placed inside the jar and photographed at various angles ...
week 14/52 of the jar project that looks at refraction, reflection, distortion, opacity, light, bokeh, colours, textures and subject matter through the medium of a glass jar or vessel ... with focus on a title containing only one word

This vintage 1964 Simplicity blouse “How-to-Sew” pattern, part of Simplicity’s “How to Sew Series”, includes a tissue lesson-chart on “How to Make Darts”. Sized for Sub-Teens (sizes 8s-10s-12s-14s), Teens (sizes 10t-12t-14t-16t), and Misses (sizes 12-14-16-18).
Thus, it is for 12 sizes and 3 pattern types. Pattern #5586.
I inherited this along with my other wonderful vintage patterns. It is “rawther” ironic… I can’t sew. I think I am missing the marker on my DNA for sewing.
For my Flickr groups, especially, “Vintage Patterns”…

The making of a paper puff (tissue paper flower)

....and now I'm really wired!"
Dora had a blast on Christmas morning, playing with all the catnip toys and romping around in the tissue and wrapping paper!
Posy Valentine Card made using miniature balls of tissue paper glued onto card, and embellished with pen and ribbon.
Surprisingly enough, it turned out that Stella was my helper elf yesterday while I was putting up the tree. She had fun jumping and rolling in the tissue paper and managed to snag one of the fake birds I put on the tree.
Believe it or not, Floydd and Simon have shown little interest in the tree. They didn't even come over to examine it when Larry first drug it into the house and put it in the stand!
Eventually it will probably come to their attention that there are cool, shinny, dangly things to play with, but I'm praying this lackadaisical attitude toward the decorations continue. I have taken the precaution of course of putting all the breakable ornaments toward the top of the tree!

An Arizona bottle that I covered with square pieces of tissue paper, leftover ribbon, and some sparkly gems. Makes a great vase!

Kathy and her mother save wrapping paper, boxes and tissue paper. After every birthday, holiday, etc. the stuff gets sorted, bagged and saved. There are bags and bags of it in the attic, which, had it not been so hellishly hot up there, I thought about shooting. Instead I grabbed a handful and just shot those.

like most children - she's enjoying playing with the wrapper more than her new toy! Also you'll see a big tub of sugar which is oddly placed in the living room. My mom does a lot of cooking at the holidays and sometimes she'll walk out to look at the television or answer the phone and bring the mixing bowl with her or the tub o sugar or flour... and there it sits.
"In June 2009, Camille was diagnosed with an Intracranial Ependymoma situated in the fourth ventricle between the cerebellum and the brain stem at the base of the brain. The tumour is currently pressing against the cerebellum and brain stem making surgery too dangerous. The treatment plan is to offer chemotherapy to shrink the tumour away from these two areas so surgery can take place. Chemotherapy started on 23rd July 2009 and is planned to last for 12 months or more."
Camille's mum belongs to an online community that I've been a part of for a long time. We've all been through a lot of things together, births, marriages, break ups, make ups, but I don't think anything has touched us quite as much as Camille's story.
A group of us also belong to the flickr community and wondered if there was anything we could do here to help raise awareness. Can I please, please ask you to take a look at this group and become a member and invite your contacts. It would also be great if some of the pictures reached explore so if you could comment or fave (preferably both) this would really give the appeal a boost.
Can I also ask you to look at Camille's website and read Martin's (Camille's dad) blog. What Camille's family are going through is truly heartbreaking. Please, please do what you can.
Thank you for reading.
a bit more orange and and a festive garland. just added the down comforter, although it got warmer here, so I'm thinking I jumped the gun!
I created this stamped candle and matching card set as a holiday gift. I used slightly non-traditional versions of red and green, so the candle could be used year round. It was a lot of fun to make and I am so pleased with the results!
