Color-photocopy on tracing paper over collage of black and white vintage ephemera. Added commercial tissue paper. Approx 3 x 3 inches.
After the admin for a group called PINOY ARTISTRY invited me to add a photo of my Dad's parol, I explored the group and saw several photos of parols (Filipino Christmas Lantern). There was one in particular that I loved... I was inspired to make my own.
These are the preliminary tools and supplies I collected to start my project. Luckily, we already had almost everything I needed. I just needed to buy a strip of wood wince I didn't have bamboo (which parol are typically made of) available.
Please bare with my instructions... I'm not a professional parol maker or a copywriter, so my descriptions may not be too clear.
Hopefully, I'll get this project done by Christmas.
Passion fruit cupcake, with passion fruit pulp syrup filling, and cream cheese passion fruit frosting!
Really, I have tried. I've had two goes at interpreting lace designs on emulsion-painted tissue. And the results have not been good. (That is an under-statement!)
So I decided to use rubber stamps. I stamped these paisley designs on top of the pale green emulsion, and applied gold embossing powder. After heat setting it looks just like gold leaf on the tissue paper. I'll be using this as my starting point for an Indian inspired page, which I'll do instead of the lace-inspired page suggested by Karen.

I glued the other end of the fans to the adjacent point and completed wrapping the strips of cut tissue paper around the loop of the parol.
Attaching frame and burner to the balloon's skirt.
The very lowest part of the envelope is reinforced with tape and the burner frame is then secured to it. This frame serves to position the flame away from the wind and the envelope walls allowing the flame to be directed straight up into the envelope.

This cover is a mixed media collage featuring wooden people, stars and gears. I made the background from some of my images on PSE and a tissue paper collage. I like the steam punk distressed look.
This packaging was inspired by the girls at McMaster & Storm. I enjoyed their gift-wrapping tips as guest hosts of The Inspired Room: theinspiredroom.wordpress.com/2007/12/02/gift-wrapping-tu...
The outside of this package was wrapped in a traditional style, but after seeing the lovely ideas from McMaster & Storm, I cooked up this fun idea for my husband's package...a dozen roses! The gift is hiding out beneath the roses.
Here is a link to a tutorial on our blog on how to make these tissue paper collages.

Once you see the technique, you'll be able to use it to create your own designs!

This is the second balloon I made and the first successfully launched. My first balloon caught fire during inflation.

I rarely see anyone cook Skate at home. Why would anyone pay 26 British pounds for skate in a restaurant when they can make it at home with minimal effort? Anyways, I oven grilled this fantasic skate wing from Selfridges, London. Here's how I cooked this Oven Grilled Skate Wing:
1. clean the skate wing with water
2. pad dry with tissue paper
3. marinate with curry powder, chili powder for 1 hour
4. preheat oven to 180C
5. put skate wing on roasting tray (butter the surface)
6. sprinkle salt to taste (by adding the salt now instead of during marination, you minimize moisture lost)
7. use grill function with fan to crisp up the exterior and cook the skate wing
8. serve
