There are several kinds of 'Kappas', also in origami land, like this one, holding an leaf as protection against the sun? ;-))
I found an explanation on internet about these "Otherworldly Creatures"; it's up to you if you believe it or not ;-)
~~~~There are also those who believe that the Kappa could be a type of alien creature that somehow found its way to Earth. Many who have faith in this argument also believe that other mythological sea creatures inhabit Earth in the uncharted areas of the sea.
Their argument? These strange sea aliens are able to travel to and from the Earth through portals – which may explain why we’ve never been able to prove their existence. They claim that these portals come in the form of mysterious whirlpools. Admittedly, whirlpools and strong water currents are one of the most common descriptions that arise in mythology speaking of the appearance of these strange creatures.
Additionally, many scholars point out that several ancient cultures speak of sea creatures who are documented to have ‘fallen from the sky.’ Many of these creatures, gods, and goddesses are also said to have immediately submerged themselves in a body of water as soon as they arrived and are also credited with teaching human beings religion, culture, and medicine.
Likewise, the early Kappa are known as friendly helpers who worked to teach humans important medical practices such as bone setting.~~~~
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" on the 7th of April is "pink colour" where the subject of the photo is not important; but the colour pink should be
the only colour, the main colour or the eye-catcher of the image. What a perfect theme to have, because, I have lots of pink things around my house. However, rather than use one of them, I decided to sit down and bead a Christmas bauble. Yes, I know it's only Easter, but I have many to make before Christmas time, and each one takes time to make. If I make them across the course of the year, it makes the job of beading each one easier.
This Christmas bauble, set on a backdrop of pink tissue paper, was hand beaded with sequins and pins by me. I have a Christmas tradition. I bead Christmas baubles for a select group of friends every year and give them as gifts. This one has been made for a little girl of four, who like many little girls, loves the colour pink. I hope she will enjoy hanging it on her Christmas tree this year.
Each bauble is completely hand beaded and takes between two and three hours to make, depending upon the complexity of the pattern. This pattern uses some especially small sequins that are only two millimeters in diameter, so they can take up a lot of time to place. I do hope that you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile.
Macro Mondays theme - Paper
I found a little brown paper bag in my wrapping supplies. It measures 6x2&7/8. I tucked in some colored tissue paper and the background is also tissue paper with light behind.
Happy Macro Monday!
This is a sheet of white tissue paper with turquoise polka dots which I folded into a strip. I held one end together with a paper clip, so it had the shape of a fan and took my picture of the other end. I used a very shallow DOF so you can hardly see the far side of the "fan".
The red on the left is a small part of an unopened pomegranate and the pink on the right is tissue paper. I'm not quite sure what made me think of putting these 2 together. Red and pink so close together? Taken in November, posted in January.
Some dear friends call me Haze, instead of Hazel
My husband had the idea of gathering some hazelnuts from under the hazel trees near our stream. They are a bit wobbly to 'write' with which suits me fine.........
I'm also thinking of chocolate and hazel nuts.
And squirrels who missed these ones.
And my background for Haze had to be purple.
I have been M.I.A. here for the past couple of days, because I finally took a deep breathe and dove into the job of taking down the holiday decorations.
It's a process!!
I'm never in any great hurry to get rid of it right after the 1st of the year.
It took a lot of time to put it up.......I want my monies worth!
But enough is enough, and I had to buckle down and get it done.
I always save any tissue paper from the holidays in a trash bag, and then use it to wrap up a lot of my Christmas kinck knacks.
While I was packing up "Kitty Christmas", Ozzie thought it was great fun to burrow in the colorful paper.
Not just for wrapping.
Tissue paper was used by musicians in the early 1900s to play the comb, producing a sound similar to the kazoo. Jazz musician Red McKenzie was one of the best-known players.
theme: EDC (Everyday Carry)
Stuff that's always with me when I walk out the door other than wallet, keys and cell phone as per week's theme requirement.
I love Christmas. It's my favourite time of the year: a season of kindness and generosity, friendship, laughter and love. It is also the time of the year when we get to deck the halls with beautiful decorations.
I have a Christmas tradition. I bead Christmas baubles for a select group of friends every year. Each of these baubles is 15 centimetres in diameter and contain hundreds of sequins, varying in number depending upon the complexity of the pattern and the type of sequins I use. Most sequins in these baubles are 5mm in diameter, but there are others that are slightly bigger like the butterflies which are 8mm and 12mm and some which are smaller, like the small flowers and stars which are 3mm. Depending upon the colour of the sequin, I will use either a gold or a silver pin to attach it to the bauble.
These baubles are smaller than some others I do, however because they are complex patterns which start from the outside and are worked outwards in ever decreasing circles, each bauble takes approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours per side.
It is however, a labour of love which I do to pass the time throughout the year.
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 7th of December is "collage in black and white". I usually photograph my hand made Christmas baubles in situ on the tree, which I did do, but this year for something different, I also photographed a selection of them in their tissue wrapping as I boxed them up to send to a dear friend, little knowing that this would be the perfect main image for my collage for the theme for this week! If you follow my photostream, you will know that I do display my baubles in colour, and I will these. However, for this week’s theme, I hope that you like my black and white collage, and that it makes you smile!
Lonely black peg. I only have the one in this colour and this size and I don't know where it came from. I pegged it to white tissue paper but then found I needed a heavy vignette to make the paper visible
a rare glimpse of Stella out in the open playing!
Crinkly tissue paper and a bead garland was enough of a temptation to make her temporarily forget about the other cats and rustle around under the paper to chase the garland.
If any one of the other cats had walked into the room, she'd have stopped immediately and retreated to the safety of her windowsill or the dry sink.
