Macro Mondays - "Unexpected"

I've recently been experimenting with taking photos using a flatbed scanner. The results were very unexpected! This is a feather and crumpled up tissue paper scanned together.

The scanner produces incredibly macro images, it's just that they're very large macro images, or lots and lots of macro images put together.

Many thanks for every kind comment, fave, your words of encouragement, and the inspiration of your fine photography,

my friends! You make my day every day!

This is from one piece of tissue paper I colored with acrylic inks.

I crushed white tissue paper, sprayed it with water, and then dropped on acrylic ink. After the paper dried, I ironed the paper, and then crushed the paper again and repeated the process. When I was satisfied with the result, I ironed the paper flat.

Looks nice... but the price is a bit steep... RM31.90 = USD 7.56

I created this stamped candle and matching card set as a holiday gift. I used slightly non-traditional versions of red and green, so the candle could be used year round. It was a lot of fun to make and I am so pleased with the results!

Thanks for looking! :-)

Even I am getting tired of seeing this guy. Background started as a spray-painted paper from WAAR 2014.

Found poetry, on a 20x20cm mixed media canvas. I used: acrylic paint, handmade stamps, markers, Neocolors, painted tissue paper

Can't see Quby's face...

here was her real joy today. there was some tissue paper from some of the christmas gifts, and she loves to run around in it, under it, through it, and she thwaps her paws around on it like she's trying to catch some imaginary mice underneath it.

Index-Card-A-Day 2013

Gelli™ printed tissue paper, acrylic paint, colored pencil, gel pen, text on 3" x 5" index card.

This scrap of Gelli™ printed tissue paper had the exact shape of a deer on it! I just added a few details like the eye, ear definition, shading, and the text.

I was in awe of Cathey Love's Dragon Eye project when she posted it on Facebook, so we had to try it at McNeil. It's in the rotation now!

We drew dragon eyes, went over that drawing with Sharpies, added shaded colored pencil accents, and then the real fun happened - we used bleeding tissue squares to add color! I've never used bleeding tissues before, but I'm hooked. What a fun way to add color. For the last step, we added chalk pastel to the eye.

I really love how each eyes is as individual as the artist making it.

This was fun!

The picture's made out of shapes cut from tissue paper, laid on a piece of translucent white perspex with a flash fired underneath it (at 1/16 power): a sort of Heath Robinson lightbox. The set-up shot below might explain it better.

All framed by a piece of black card with a rectangle cut from it. No post-processing.

If you fancy trying it yourself, the perspex was £2.60 from eBay (or if that link's broken, search eBay for "3mm opal acrylic".)

One square of black origamido paper on white tissue paper.

This is a multi-media piece I did for an exhibition in Butte, Montana. It started out as a watercolor painting, which you can see at the very top of this picture. I then continued by layering bits of the tissue paper I had colored with acrylic inks. The idea behind the picture is that Butte is sitting on copper, which it mines, and at great depths the copper is molten.

This is a very simple Valentine's project. It is perfect for children and all the family. Using the same technic you can make other pouches for other holidays. You can also recycle your holiday tissue for this project.

For the tutorial video, please go to www.carlosNmolina.com, select "tutorials/videos" and then the "Pouches" button.

Happy Valentine's!!!!

Enjoy it,

Carlos N.

I didn't sleep too badly, but needed to get up at about 4.30am (you know why!), but couldn't get out of bed as my back was in agony when I tried to get up. Mike came to help, but he couldn't, so he rang 111. Of course, there wasn't really anything they could do either, so I waited and went back to sleep. Eventually I managed to get out of bed at about 8.40am, and once I was up I could move around - but with spasms every now and then. I can put up with it, as they quickly wear off - and the doctor who I spoke to at lunchtime said it was fine to not take anything if I was OK with that. I've been moving around from chair to chair, to change position, and it's gradually been improving during the day. I even managed to make some birthday cards. Hopefully it will improve more each day, but we shall see! My lovely tall stick with the antler horn top is proving invaluable :-)

With my wedding a mere three weeks away, my parents' home is overflowing with wedding supplies, including these gift bags for Reggie's and my bridal party.

I love this debate. I just do.

It got really heated once when I brought it up with the kids at a youth camp. And they all went beserk when they discussed this. One lad, Dan, even goes to lengthy extremes to purposefully change the toilet from the "back" way to the "front" way, because the "back" way is just wrong...!

I wouldn't be bothered to change it. I'd be happy if there was toilet paper. Back way or front. Any toilet paper is good when you're on the toilet. But when I do come across the back way (once in a while) I smile to myself and think about the crazy debate we once had with the youth kids, remembering that Dan is the fine and classic example to go to extremes to change it the front way. Heh.

But to some people, this is the ultimate debate of all debates.

Go vote online if you're really bothered!

First project of the fall class. The teacher's husband gave her a book about alternative jewelry making. Paper was an option. This is my interpretation. I made the wire base, covered it with tissue paper using Mod Podge. This give it a transparent, shiny surface.
