This is a photograph from the annual Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games 5KM and 10 Mile road races, fun runs, walks and challenges which were held in the heritage village of Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland on Tuesday 27th December 2016 at 13:00. This year's race featured some changes from previous years: the introduction of chip timing, a new start and finish in the middle of the village at the community center and, a slightly amended route.

We have an extensive set of photographs from the race start, the beginning of the hill climb and the finish on our Flickr photostream set at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157678237005786

The 10 mile race takes in the local 'Ardagh Mountain' which is a 1 mile continuous climb starting at the 2.5 mile mark of the 10 mile race. The 5KM race takes a loop around the heritage village of Ardagh. Overall this is a very well organised race with accurate courses, good marshalling and traffic control and excellent after race refreshments. The 10 mile race is one of the longest road races held during the Christmas period anywhere in Ireland and has appeal to runners who want to add a longer distance race to their festive calendar of running.

The weather at this year's race was much more suitable to road racing. In 2014 there was very frosty icy weather and last year in 2015 participants were given a very very windy day with heavy rain at the finish of both races.

Ardagh is probably County Longford's most picturesque village with many historical and architecturally important features. It is located about 6 miles from Longford town.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

This is a photograph from the Ringtown GAA Club Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races, fun runs, and walks which were held in Whitehall, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Monday (April 21st 2014) at 11:15 and 11:30 respectively. Ringtown GAA club is situated in Whitehall which is on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard. The GAA club is shown here on Google Streetview [goo.gl/maps/UI9tD]. The half marathon started outside the GAA club. The 10KM race started about 1KM away from the start/finish area. Both races shared the same route. The race event was also a fundraiser for the charity TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accomodation Mullingar) which provides emergency accomodation for women and children of the midlands who are subject of domestic and sexual violence. They are located at Teach Fáilte, Green Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

The half marathon started at the GAA club. The main loop of 6 miles started here and proceeded around some beautiful rural back roads with major turns at [goo.gl/maps/8Iw9S], [goo.gl/maps/in6yE], and goo.gl/maps/JJzwM before joining up with the R394 and Castlepollard and returning back to Ringtown/Whitehall.

This was the GAA club's first attempt at staging a running event and the overwhelming reaction of participants was that it went perfectly. There was a team of Motorcycle outriders and Gardai who expertly controlled traffic flow (particularly along the very busy R394) and made for very safe running conditions for all participants. There was a wonderful selection of refreshments provided afterwards and maybe people were able to sit out in the sun and enjoy a well earned rest after the race. Shower facilities were provided in the GAA club.

I believe this is a species of burdock, and you can find it just about everywhere up here. it's a pain in the neck, and the seeds stick to everything and make quite a nuisance, but if you sneak up on it at just the right time, the flowers are quite a sight. At least I think so. No picture can really do the deep violet color justice, but I've done my best. :)

The posed portrait was nice, but this is just a gem.

This is a photograph from the 9th annual running of the Meath Spring Half Marathon which was promoted and hosted by Bohermeen Athletic Club at Bohermeen, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 8th of March 2020 at 11:00. The half marathon consists of a 11KM and 10KM repeated loop around the roads of Bohermeen and Oristown. The finish line is on the running track within Bohermeen Community Center. The course is a fast fair course with a few small hills. In 2016 the original course was 'reversed' which just meant that the traditional course changed to accomodate the large number of participants and the narrow country roads on which both the race participants and race traffic must both share before, during and after the race. Most runners agreed that this made the course much faster as a result. This is the second year of the half marathon only event. The major change for 2019 seen the half marathon become the only race of the day. Previously, there was a 10KM race option also presented. This year well over 1000 participants finished the race which sold out many weeks in advance. The race also includes the 47th Rennicks Cup (Men's overall team) and the 44th Father Delany Cup (Women's overall team).

The weather was a slight improvement on the very wintry weather of 2019. A very strong westerly wind contined and this was in the face of runners on the open stretches on the Navan Athboy road and on the additional section on Loop 1. There was also a very heavy hail shower at around midday.

Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful. Having now organised the event for six years running it is certain that the event will continue to grow and expand become one of the mainstays on the Irish athletic club road racing calendar for many years to come.

This race takes place about one month after the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race in Trim (just down the road from Bohermeen). Indeed these races truly kick-start the whole road racing season of fixtures amongst the clubs in Meath who are now famous for the quality and standard of the road races staged and organised.

This woman has a right timing /s lol.

While bystanding at a small store waiting for the saints to arrive, I took a pic tending to capture the marching band. Accidentally this woman passby, but the result of the pic still amazes me xD.

Holy week at Taytay, Rizal Philippines.

This is a photograph from the Athlone 10KM and 5KM road races were held in Clonown Village, Co. Roscommon, Ireland on Sunday 27th of April 2013 at 14:00 and 14:30. Clonown is a small townland on the west bank of the River Shannon and is situated about 3 miles south of the town of Athlone. Whilst the townland is almost completely rural it is accessed easily from major routes and towns by the M6 motorway. The weather was perfect for today's race and participants enjoyed very warm spring sunshine. There was a slight breeze on certain parts of the course but overall it was a beautiful day for running. Over 200 people took part in both events.

We have an extensive set of photographs from today in the following Flickr Album: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157644370027053/

Timing and event management was provided by Precision Timing. Results are available on their website at www.precisiontiming.net/result/racetimer with additional material available on their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/davidprecisiontiming?fref=ts) See their promotional video on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-7_TUVwJ6Q

This race completely defied the fact that it is only the third year of it's existence. Every aspect of the organisation was professional: from stewarting, registration, start of races exactly on time, car-parking, and post race refreshments. The 10KM route followed an anti-clockwise loop. The race started on the L2035 Togher Road (about 100m from Clonown Centre - see here on Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/xWj3i) and heads towards the old Ballinasloe Rd (emerging here - see on Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/P6rE8) and back via Creggan (turning off the main road at this point - see Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/wCHT0) with the finish at the Clonown Community Centre. The course turns at this point [goo.gl/maps/7sa6u] to return to the finish. The stretch from the exit off the Old Ballinasloe Road to the Creggan turn off brings the race through wide open bogland areas used in the peat extraction industry.

The 5KM run was added last year (2013) to provide a managable challenge for people who are following programmes such as Operation Transformation. The 5KM race route follows a different route around the townland. The race starts at the church in Clonown and head clockwise around the Ballinaculla townland which offers lovely views of the River Shannon. The route then goes to the Drumlosh road and runs for 1.5 km before the roundabout which is the 3km mark. The race then turns around and returns back to the village and finish at Clonown Community Centre. Both races share some of the race route for the Flatline Athlone Half held annually in September (www.athlonehalfmarathon.com/) which makes the race routes very fast and flat.

We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

Creative Commons aims to encourage creative sharing.

Actually we do want to rock the boat. This thing is called a roll exciter. It rocks a boat model side to side, but not fore and aft.

Downtown Syracuse has some fantastic architecture! Good thing the rain from earlier in the day cleared up for a few hours, giving me a chance to capture these buildings against some gorgeous clouds...and a gull that just happened to photobomb my shot at the perfect moment.

As a friend pointed out on my Facebook page, there's also a clock in the shot. I meant the title to refer to the gull flying in, but that works, too!

The Lidl Run Kildare Events 2013 were held at the Curragh Racecourse, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 12th May 2013. There were three events: a 10KM, a half marathon, and a full marathon. This is a selection of photographs which includes all events. The photographs are taken from the start and finish of the marathon, the finish of the 10KM, and the finish of the half marathon. Due to the large numbers participating we did not manage to photograph everyone - which was not helped by the weather. Congratulations to Jo Cawley and her RunKildare crew for another great event. The weather didn't dampen the spirits of the many happy participants.

Electronic timing was provided by Red Tag Timing [www.redtagtiming.com/]

Overall Race Summary

Participants: There were approximately 3,000 participants over the 3 race events - there were runners, joggers, and walkers participating.

Weather: A cold breezy morning with heavy rain at the start. The weather dried up for the 10KM and the Half Marathon races

Course: This is an undulating course with some good flat stretches on the Curragh.

Timing is everything, when you're really ready for it, it will come.

Sunrise at Ganga River, Varanasi, India

OK, so they were doing live mortar fire demonstrations. I had to shoot through a crowd of people with a 500mm lens from about 60 yards away. Timing it was hard and I had to throw away like 25 previous shots that were too early or too late to catch the flame blast

The Bottom Brackets and Idler overhauled really nicely.

When photographing dogs, timing is everything. A split second too late and all you get is ball.

This page spans the period 1953 to 1959. The BR WR reporting nos were 3225 & 3210.

We see from the BR WR timetables that the train stopped at Marston Sidings. Situated three miles east of Swindon these sidings were the focus for many of the fish trains. Indeed Adrian Vaughan in his book 'Signalman's Twilight' highlights the importance of the sidings writing ".... The main purpose of the sidings was the reception, breaking-up and re-marshalling of fish trains, loaded and empty. The loaded 3.30 pm Hull and the 4.30 pm Grimsby arrived there in the early hours bringing fish for destinations scattered between Torquay, Barnstaple, Whitland and Worcester. When they were re-formed the 3.30 Hull consisted entirely of west of England traffic, the 4.30 Grimsby went to Whitland and a third train started from Marston for Gloucester and Worcester, putting off Swindon traffic at the goods yard there"

It seems that, probably from 14th Sep 1959, the train was re-timed to leave Hull at 3.30 pm and a Saturday train was introduced.

Notice the left hand bolt hole on the thermostat housing mounting point - It's a little nest for a wasp that seals the hole with muddy sand after depositing an insect and egg inside.

Since then, I have had a further 5 to deal with - inside hoses and so on. It's a case of stuffing rags and tissue into every likely place.

Fall Back. In my 20's it was the night you made sure to hit the bars, when bar time magically wasn't bar time and we all had an extra hour to drink. In retrospect that wasn't always the best idea, but no one ever complained about the extra hour of sleep the next morning, it was a win-win. Fast forward to the #365 challenge and 'fall back' has me freaked out. Losing the light an hour early makes me nervous by adding another level of difficulty to the project. Knowing this I wanted to take advantage of the final day and fittingly came across a shot that depicts the days fading light. Timing is everything, minutes later this shadow was gone.

"When the stars line up

and you catch a good break

and people think your lucky

but you know it’s grace

it can happen so fast

or a little bit late

timing is everything"
