Earlier this year CP ran a CWR train along the Galt Sub dropping rail in various locations before continuing south down the Hamilton Sub. While working their way east, the consist was left tied down on the Killean Storage Track on Galt's east side one evening giving local photographers the opportunity for night shots of the London-built SD40-2.

With the time change 'springing ahead' during the night, I was afforded an extra hour of darkness in the morning, with just enough time to grab a few shots after work before the sun came up.

the eternal stories of the world, the current moments

Samyang 300/6.3; hand-held and shot from a window. These magnolia blossoms were tempted by the extraordinarily warm spring whether to open up - right now when the temperature is dropping and some people talk of imminent snow. So, let me acknowledge their beauty and record it too.

This is one of the least busy places I know, always was.

But just when I arrived there today two walkers settled on a bench for their break.

Well, I know how to get there.

I took a day trip recently to a great place to visit, Dauset Trails Nature Reserve; It had been a year since I was there and what a difference! I was a month too late, and the water in the Lotus Pond was way down, the water looked black except in a few areas where the blue sky was reflected...The long hot summer had taken its toll...Even so, if you were willing to lean way over and hold back some weeds, there were still lovely lilies to be found!

Hope you are having a great week!

Great Cormorant caught out!

There's also position, camera setting, guessing the right driveway to pull into, and some luck.

First plane that came across. Bingo.

Bad timing with moving clouds muted the light on this view of NTV-4 at Narrowsburg NY on 18 June 1989, with NYS&W B40-8 No. 4006 in the lead.

during our rustic-cabin weekend, we were surrounded by pine trees covered in fresh snow. gusts of wind created “snow showers” from the trees. i walked with my camera in the morning light, and just as i turned to face the sun, snow rained down from the forest. right time, right place. it was magical.

I spotted this Osprey and the moon behind it. At first the moon was to the right, took some pics, repositioned myself and waited a bit to get this shot. Central Bucks PA.

I was glad I was able to get focused on the female Belted Kingfisher as it flew by the female Common Merganser. Central Bucks, PA.

I only made it to Bedford, Indiana a couple of times. The second time, I managed to photograph a train in the street. However, being February this northbound was coming right out of the sun. At least I was able to view and photograph this interesting operation once.

After 5 years I finally took a moment to clean up and re-edit what is still to this day my favorite image... Not much can really beat the light, timing, and place, for me in this image. A fortunate few moments in the sun...

Thanks for looking!

The moment you realize that you can have everything you want in life. However, it takes timing, the right heart, the right action, the right passion and a willingness to risk it all. If it is not yours, it is because you really didn't want it!!! ;)

Well, Koko yawns : o )

Waiting a day may leave destinations inaccessible or unpleasant.

Another 20 minutes and the light would have gone kaput, luckily everything worked out because I've been wanting this photo for a while. Day 2 of 2025 saw sun and clouds. When this train to Gent passed me, I saw mostly clouds. It wasn't as bad as a few hundred meters more towards Lokeren. There, sun and rain added some spectacle to the photo.

Timing is everything, as a few minutes earlier the foreground scene was also lit by the sun. And a few minutes after this shot, I had to run and seek shelter for the rain.

As I took this photo from this shed an old man on bicycle stopped next to me. I heavy local dialect he asked me what I was taking photos of.

I told him of the shed, because I like it and because it has the same roof tiles as my house. I told him my house was built in 1933 and I wondered how old the shed might be.

He said: "Well, I can tell you, because my father built it in 1922." Pretty good timing to get the info you want right away!

My heart goes out to the fellow who has just arrived at the fishing pier. The afternoon had been sunny, warm, calm, but just as he set out for some relaxation the winds kicked up out of nowhere and the skies filled with clouds making the temperature drop like a rock. Better luck next time.

A weekend trip down to Alton to visit some friends with a detour to Salisbury and Stonehenge on the Friday. Didn't quite go according to plan, timing wise, since it took us 5 1/2 hours to get there! Not the conditions I hoped for and didn't expect several thousand visitors on a late afternoon but I sure as hell was going to take some pictures come what may after that journey!

The best time to photograph Sandend in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is when the tide is about half-way out. When the water is high, most of these fantastic rocks aren't visible at all and it makes for a somewhat less impressive scene.
