Flickr friends, what do you think ? This is the original, straight out of the camera, but I thought it looked a bit squintbso I cropped it, see version 2. But now I think they both look a bit squint, it's irritating,,because the one I posted on IG is more satisfactory, but theynwon't let me share! Oh well , if anyone has time I'd appreciate your comments :)
After watching an eastbound pass by in Durand where the sun started to come out after a couple of isolated storms skirted the area to the north, I saw that L514 was ready to leave Flint after the eastbound got past them in Flint. I went east hoping the cloud line would keep moving east and let that sky work for the afternoon westbound. After a lot of waiting, and anxiously watching the train slowly get closer, the cloud line and blue skies were slowly coming, but it was going to be close. With about 45 seconds to spare, the clouds cleared out, the sky opened up, and the sun cast a warm glow on the land and blackened the sky.
The challenge with shooting the male Ruby-throated Hummingbird is to catch them with their gorget lit up. The Black & Bloom is finally blooming and my other plants are close to blooming. So I'll have more opportunities. My backyard.
Earlier this year CP ran a CWR train along the Galt Sub dropping rail in various locations before continuing south down the Hamilton Sub. While working their way east, the consist was left tied down on the Killean Storage Track on Galt's east side one evening giving local photographers the opportunity for night shots of the London-built SD40-2.
With the time change 'springing ahead' during the night, I was afforded an extra hour of darkness in the morning, with just enough time to grab a few shots after work before the sun came up.

I took a day trip recently to a great place to visit, Dauset Trails Nature Reserve; It had been a year since I was there and what a difference! I was a month too late, and the water in the Lotus Pond was way down, the water looked black except in a few areas where the blue sky was reflected...The long hot summer had taken its toll...Even so, if you were willing to lean way over and hold back some weeds, there were still lovely lilies to be found!

I had a few others from this photo walk but I liked this one. Good timing for green photos since it is beginning to transition to fall color in my area. HMM and thanks for any views, faves, and comments.
during our rustic-cabin weekend, we were surrounded by pine trees covered in fresh snow. gusts of wind created “snow showers” from the trees. i walked with my camera in the morning light, and just as i turned to face the sun, snow rained down from the forest. right time, right place. it was magical.

I literally came to a stop as the train got to this spot. I had enough time to hop out and quickly compose the shot, no setting check or anything.

This night out shooting on the first day of the year alongside with my wife is probably the best time I have had with a camera. The AB just exploded in all directions. The reflection in the car there I never saw before I got back home. It lasted for about two hours.
On a side note: I managed to work around this new lay out. I changed to spanish for language (bottom of page) and then used chrome transelate to transelate it back to english. It might work for some weeks even months if we are lucky:p
Anyone know where we all are going after this? I would like to move over to some other site if the community works and the people behind have some sense.. I love sense!
I have some programming friends who are always looking for new ideas in the www area.. It might be the right timing to start up a service who does just what the old flickr did? Any ideas.. No fancy stuff, just the plain share, community, groups and all what it was about... Thoughts?
Sometimes on the Ferry ride home, we are fortunate to time it with the sunset. This night was no exception in terms of color and vibrance. The sky was lit with various warm colors and the distant mountains delivered wonderful shapes and silhouettes.
In order to capture the image without creating a fuzzy one, the ISO, and shutter speed are turned up. One needs to take advantage of whatever one can, in order to deliver something worth keeping.
I spotted this Osprey and the moon behind it. At first the moon was to the right, took some pics, repositioned myself and waited a bit to get this shot. Central Bucks PA.
I was glad I was able to get focused on the female Belted Kingfisher as it flew by the female Common Merganser. Central Bucks, PA.
I only made it to Bedford, Indiana a couple of times. The second time, I managed to photograph a train in the street. However, being February this northbound was coming right out of the sun. At least I was able to view and photograph this interesting operation once.

You could call this a miracle shot, and fellow buffs Torice and Henry can attest to that! I flew into Norfolk, VA on the morning of the 29th, right around 2 AM. Knowing 97 had this duo, I scheduled the first flight out at 0530, with a scheduled arrival time of 0935 in JAX. The problem: 97's departure from Jacksonville is 0934. Luckily, the flight was a few minutes early, and with superb coordination I was able to meet the getaway drivers at the airport door before flying over to McGirts Creek Bridge, where we had about five seconds to spare. This makes for the craziest example of perfect timing I've ever experienced in this hobby. If a single thing within the last 12 hours had taken 30 seconds longer, this would not have been a shot.
Good timing for me that these Epiphyllum Hookeri -- Hooker's Orchid Cactus are blooming so much! Two blossoms at once (and a little creative composite editing) were a blessing for me. They don't even last a day opened ... so I had been watching the double ones that had appeared and was blessed they opened on the right day for SoS!

Another look at the coast line from the perspective given during the Ferry ride home. Here we see the clouds and their division, imitate the separation of the islands below them.
The timing to capture this was essential to the opportunity, so I set the ISO very high, rendering an equally high shutter speed.
Another 20 minutes and the light would have gone kaput, luckily everything worked out because I've been wanting this photo for a while. SLR train 393 lead by RM-1 804 pours it on climbing into Gilead, Maine, leaving a fog of rich smelling diesel exhaust behind as they roll west into the setting sun.

D&SNG 480 drifts around the oft-photographed S-curve above Rockwood.
This location is about a 15-minute hike from Rockwood; I had planned to get there in time to deploy the other camera on the tripod on the left where the other photographer is. Alas, a buckle on my camera bag broke during the hike and so I didn't quite get there in time to do two cameras.
As they say, timing is everything.
Thinking of Sunny Days, back in the fall when sunny days were more looked forward to as fun and not so much hope for our near term troubles.
What do you do on a drizzly, gloomy day? If you're me, you head out to the woods and see if you can get one or two good captures with fill flash.
As the waves of Spring slammed against the rocky barrier, their motion caused a large gush of water to fly into the air. While watching each wave, I noticed how some would simply bump against the rocks, while others appeared to gather momentum and crash with greater force.
It was those waves with the greater energy that created such a violent action. This one was the grand daddy of them all, and reached the highest peak. The only challenge was ensuring the wash that penetrated the crevice, joined the peak of the splash as it flew into the air.
Day 2 of 2025 saw sun and clouds. When this train to Gent passed me, I saw mostly clouds. It wasn't as bad as a few hundred meters more towards Lokeren. There, sun and rain added some spectacle to the photo.
Timing is everything, as a few minutes earlier the foreground scene was also lit by the sun. And a few minutes after this shot, I had to run and seek shelter for the rain.
Thomas and I spent Saturday on the Moosehead Sub of CMQ. Starting at Holeb with Job 2 in the morning and ending with Job 1 working west, there are few opportunities but worth the trip anyhow. After waiting at Onawa for a while and not hearing them get paper, we decided to head out to clear some brush. It wasn't two minutes into our walk in that we heard the K3L echoing from the approach for the trestle. We booked it out to get our cameras, and split up between Greenwood and Bodfish. I got quite a workout hustling into Little Greenwood (not the best choice for a last minute go-to), just to find out that Jimmy had stopped the train near the camp crossing to fire up the 3810. With 61 cars in tow they made a hell of a sound grinding up the grade through here.

The best time to photograph Sandend in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is when the tide is about half-way out. When the water is high, most of these fantastic rocks aren't visible at all and it makes for a somewhat less impressive scene.
