I had three watches, two purchased today at garage sales.
None of the pictures worked out. Timing is hard.
But the suspense of this one was too much to resist.
If I had just twiddled the delay that tiny bit more.....
This is a photograph from the sixth annual Donadea 50KM Ultramarathon which was held in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 14th February 2015 at 10:00. The race was also an International Association of Ultrarunners Silver Label Event and the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) National 50KM Championships. There were 178 finishers.

Donadea Forest Park is situated in rural north Kildare and is approximately 640 acres in size. The amenities at the forest include good walking trails, a diversity of natural habitats, a walled stream, a large natural lake, and the ruins of Donadea castle. The Park is a designated National Heritage Area. The basic designation for wildlife is the Natural Heritage Area (NHA). This is an area considered important for the habitats present or which holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. It is a special occasion to allow the 50KM to be held in this environment.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. I called this one "Bad Timing" because on Mothers Day I had uploaded it not realizing what day it was and then decided, it's not the day to post this. So I took it right down.
In no way do I dislike mothers or kids. Hell I like kids, even more so with lot's of BBQ sauce...

What perfect timing to visit Osaka, the week of Cherry Blossom! Even better when we had some time to tour the Osaka Castle and its gardens. The Castle is also a historical museum for the region. History, a Castle, and Cherry Blossoms, what a great day!

This is a photograph from the Longwood GAA 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs 2014 which were held in Longwood Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 19th October 2014 at 11:00. This is the fifth year which Longwood GAA have hosted race events. This year's event was an outstanding success with the number of participants doubling over last year's final numbers. There were almost 400 participants in both events with 224 in the 10KM and 166 in the 5KM. In the first three previous years the club had organised a 5KM road race. The events were organised as fundraisers for both the adult and juvenille teams at Longwood GAA club. The event also provided a fundraising opportunity for the local St. Vincent de Paul charity. Overall the whole day was a great success with the hard work put in by the organising committee ensuring that participants enjoyed their race experience. Both routes were accurately measured, kilometer points clearly marked, junctions well stewarded, and electronic timing provided. The event provided many local runners, joggers, fun runners and walkers with a local event to support whilst at the same time providing runners preparing for events such as the Dublin marathon with an opportunity to race a short, fast, distance in the lead up to marathon day. The GAA club provided excellent stewarding and traffic management all around the course. The race had a professional feel to it and it is sure to grow next year given the very positive feedback from many of the participants today.

Longwood is a small village in South East Co. Meath and is close to the town of Enfield with access to the M4 Motorway.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were about 400 participants over the two events.
Weather: The weather was very breezy but dry. The temperatures around 10C.
5KM Course: The 5KM started in Longwood village. Runners then took a left turn in the Village down St. Oliver's Road. This straight section of road brings runners to a left turn onto a very well maintained boreen road for less than one kilometer. The race then emerges and joins with the 10KM at Stoneyford where the runners take a left and then another left before arriving back at the finish line in Longwood GAA club. Overall this is a very fast and flat 5KM with no hills to speak of.
10KM Course: The 10KM event begins in Longwood Village outside Stoney's Pub (goo.gl/maps/Of4fW) and proceeds westward out of the village. There are some interesting points along this part of the course. At the 2KM point the runners will run under the double bridges - an aquaduct for the Royal Canal and a bridge carrying the Dublin Sligo Railway line. The race then enters county Kildare just before the 3km and after taking a right turn at the four-cross roads known locally as Lally's Cross it returns to County Meath on top of the River Boyne Bridge (Ashfield Bridge) which forms the county boundary. The race follows a straight road for the next 2KM until runners encounter Blackshade bridge which is the toughest climb on the route. As a point of interest Blackshade bridge brings runners back over the Royal Canal and the Railway line. The race then crosses the River Boyne again at Stoneyford before taking a right which will bring runners on a testing two kilometer stretch with some short hills. The 10KM course then joins with the 5Km course for the final 1.5KM back to Longwood GAA club for the finish.

Here's another jumping picture, on top of Old Rag, that turned out fairly well... the timing is tricky!
The real Shorebirds are amongst the very favorites of many photographers and birders, who visit the New Jersey shoreline. And when the timing is right, one is rewarded with large flocks of them gathered together to make great group shots. The nice thing about many of these Shorebirds at Barnegat LSP is that they tend not to get easily spooked, triggering an instant, collective mass flight, before returning to either the same or nearby spot. Some of the more commonly seen ones are the Dunlins, Ruddy Turnstone, Purple Sandpiper, and Sanderling, to name a few. You never know which species will be there or not, and whether there will be a large or small count. The waves are usually very chopping and rough, with coastal winds, but for the most part, unless the crashing water against the rocky jetty would envelop them, they would simply flap their wings to jump a bit out of the way from a direct drenching, and then reclaim the same spot. It was so nice to just gingerly walk around them and observe the gentle nature of these shorebirds.
The Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is truly a splendid landscape, famous mostly for its historic lighthouse (over 100 years old) of architecturally clean lines that accentuate its presence, but also the well-designed structure of the long jetty consisting of huge rocks and boulders sandwiched between the nice sandy beach and the ocean, and finally, the wonderful array of fascinating birds throughout the seasons. Throughout the day, one can expect to see a variety of water vessels, from small one-man fishing boats to larger motorized ones, and even enormous tankers in the far distance. The U.S. Coastguard boats are constantly on the lookout for any potential problems in the water.
All of this is even more beautiful during the breathtaking end-of-the-day sunsets or early morning sunrise period, with the accompanying “Magic/Golden Hour” that exudes the special tones in the air. As nature enthusiasts and photographers, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Perfect timing with my arbitrary definitions of seasons, we got 2 feet of snow on December 1st. I will also include the aftermath in this album, cleaning up on December 2nd, and roof raking later in the week. Strangely, we have not had anything near this bad again as of February 16th. We had a few storms of a few inches, which is fine with me - the perfect amount for skiing. Lately though it's been only ice storms - a bit of snow, then a lot of sleet and freezing rain, then rain which waterlogs it, then back to snow and it all freezes. It has been horrible to clean that up, sometimes several times a week, so at this point I hope the groundhog is right.
Side note - Part of my New Year's Resolution was to catch up on Flickr. I am doing that, but it takes a long time. I have set an unrealistic goal to finish the winter album by March 1st. I haven't started it yet.

Having scored five tries, all converted, the hosts led 35-0 after 46 minutes before a belated show of spirit saw Sandal cross three times to reduce the deficit to 16 points. Wirral then clinched victory with a sixth try, also converted, in stoppage time.

Wirral RFC were founded in 1936 by former pupils of Wirral Grammar School, Bebington. After the Second World War the club leased facilities at Hooton Park Golf Club. In 1968 Wirral moved to Clatterbridge, their present home. The Old Wirralians Association Memorial Ground commemorates club players killed during the 1939-45 conflict. A major success came in 2009, when Chester were beaten 20-10 in the Cheshire Vase Final. The club maintain strong links with Wirral Grammar School.

The Lidl Run Kildare Events 2013 were held at the Curragh Racecourse, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 12th May 2013. There were three events: a 10KM, a half marathon, and a full marathon. This is a selection of photographs which includes all events. The photographs are taken from the start and finish of the marathon, the finish of the 10KM, and the finish of the half marathon. Due to the large numbers participating we did not manage to photograph everyone - which was not helped by the weather. Congratulations to Jo Cawley and her RunKildare crew for another great event. The weather didn't dampen the spirits of the many happy participants.

Zombied myself through the work day. I don't like myself very much right now for having stayed up 'til the wee hours.
More so when I remembered that we have volleyball practice tonight. :/ Wasn't able to play because my head was killing me. Sigh.
Going a few years back in time, this session with the band Faithless Saints holds a special place in my memory. Since they’ve released a lot of new music lately, it seems like good timing to feature them. Erik and Bobbo (Robert) are two of my oldest friends still making really awesome music together. I have so many good memories of seeing them play live over the past two decades.
When they were just babies in their first band, Thirty-Six Drive, they played the most adorable punk rock shows in Dallas, Oregon. Fast forward to today, and they’re Faithless Saints in Portland, Oregon. Bobbo also has his own recording studio, performance space, and production company: Irican Productions.
From the Faithless Saints website: “Formed out of the remains of their previous bands Thirty-Six Drive and Rebel Fly, life-long best friends Robert Rios and Erik Benton formed Faithless Saints in 2006 with the goal of doing what they love, making music together. After a few years living in many different city’s and with several different drummers and second guitarist. Robert and Erik settled in Portland, Oregon in 2008, where they found guitarist Drew Tran and drummer Jake Mastrud. The Saints can occasionally be found playing up and down West Coast with their sacrilegious mixture of punk, rock, ska, metal, and hardcore.”

This is a photograph from the 2nd running of the Donadea Running Club 5KM race in Donadea Forest, Donadea, Staplestown, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Friday 26th of July 2013 at 19:30. This race is part of the North Kildare Summer Running League Series of races. There was great athlete and participant support from the neighbouring clubs of Celbridge, Kilcock, Leixlip, Naas, Newbridge, and beyond. The race route is contained completely in the forest on the trail paths. The 5KM route is ran in a clockwise direction from the coffee shop at the center of the forest. The combination of a warm pleasant July evening and the wonderful surroundings make this a very unique race on the running calendar in this part of Leinster.
Donadea Forest Park is located in north west Co. Kildare close to the border with County Meath. It is about 50 kilometers from Dublin. The forest is now a very mature forest with a vast array of habitats and a lake. It is over 640 acres in size. The Park is managed by Coillte.
Well done to all of the Donadea Running Club and the local community who yet again have organised an excellent event.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Approximately 250 people took part in today's races with runners, joggers, walkers, and families involved.
Weather: This was a warm pleasant summer's evening in the forest. The 19:30 start avoided a very heavy and prolonged shower of rain which made the course a little wet in places.
Course: This is a very well known loop of the Donadea forest. It starts at the coffee shop area near and lake and proceeds on what is locally known as the 'outer' loop of the forest in a clockwise direction. The direction is opposite to that used in the Donadea 10KM and Donadea 50KM races.

This is a photograph is one of a set of photographs from the Castlepollard 5KM Road Race and Fun Run 2013 which was held in Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 14th August 2013 at 20:00. The race is hosted by North Westmeath Athletic Club. The race has grown in stature and popularity over the years and is now one of the most well attended road races in the midlands. The race offers prizes in all categories. Castlepollard 5KM Road Race attempts to support young runners and walkers by organising a range of underage races around the town square before the adult race at 20:00. Profits from the race go towards grassroots athletics in the region - North Westmeath Athletics, Schools Cross Country, and local community games. Due to the slightly late start and the fading light it was difficult to capture as many photographs as normal and we ended up with many blurs and mistakes. The Castlepollard 5KM can be considered as the final major race in summer road racing in the midlands as with the fading light of the late summer comes less opportunities to hold races in the evening time. Castlepollard is a small town located in North County Westmeath amongst the lakes of Lough Lene and Lough Derravagh.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 470 participants which is a significant increase on previous years.
Weather: This was a warm humid night. There was little or no breeze which made for very favourable conditions for 5KM racing.
Course: The race begins near the Church and ino the town square and proceeds directly out the R395 towards Coole and Edgeworthstown. The first KM is flat and quick allowing the field to spread out. The race then enters the Tullynally Castle estate and proceeds up the tree-lined avenue. The gardens, like the castle are on a magnificent scale, taking in nearly 12 acres. This allows the race to make a big loop of the gardens with a quick downhill stretch followed by a sharp climb before the race rejoins it's outgoing path for the final 1.5KM of the race. The final 800M from the gate of the Castle grounds to the finish is as the first - fast and flat and allows for a great finish at the GAA grounds.

This is a photograph from the Rathfarnham 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 29th September 2013 at 10:00.
This is one of the most popular runs in South County Dublin and is held in support of St. Luke's Cancer Hospital, Rathgar. This year's race attracted over 1,300 participants and the run is open to runners, joggers and walkers. The course is one of the fastest 5ks in the country with a downhill start and finish. This is an excellently organised race with marhsalling at every junction and Garda enforced road closures for the duration of the race.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was a record number of participants with over 1,300 people taking to the start line.
Weather: This race was held on a beautiful autumn morning. There was little or no breeze and there was mild temperatures of around 15C for the race.
Course: Overall this course is a flat and fast course. There is a net gain of 15M over the whole course with slightly downhill gradients at the start and towards the finish. The course is completely left-handed which makes for favourable conditions. All being equal the course provides an excellent opportunity for every from elite competitors to joggers to set a fast time for themselves.
The race starts at the easterly side of the N81 Tempelogue Road and Springfield Avenue. The start area is shown here on Google StreetView (goo.gl/maps/kg7FY). The race follows Springfield Avenue along the side of Bushy Park. The race overlaps the final kilometer and the finish as it proceeds to the Rathfarnham Road (Shown here Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/gRrI6). The route heads north on Rathfarnham road as there is a very gentle incline until the junction with the Temleogue Road is reached and runners make a sharp left turn onto the N81 (shown here Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/51S2t). The race then heads south along Templeogue Road where the runners can see the course unfold straight infront of them. The race turns left at Springfield Avenue again (start area) and the final Kilometer is as the first to the finish area (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/1R08S) just before the Rathfarnham Road Junction.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. ODT - Timing is Everything
The weather, wind and timing threatened my chance to prove I'd trained for a really big swim in support of Harvey. With so much uncertainty, I decided to prove it to myself on my terms. 25 miles in the 60-degree water of Dover Harbour. 18 months ago I couldn't lift a towel over my head because of shoulder pain. Within 18 months, Harvey will be running. You can do anything you set your mind to! Dream big.
This is a photograph from the first running of the Clonard GAA 4 Mile Road Race, Fun Run and Walk which was held in the village of Clonard, Co. Meath, Ireland on Wednesday 2nd August 2017 at 19:30. This race was organised to faciliate the continued fund raising for the wonderful new GAA facilities at St. Finian's Park - the new home of Clonard GAA. The race itself was an outstanding success with over 400 participants including over 230 participants having chip timing. The new GAA facilities provided ample car parking and space for refreshments and mingling afterwards.
The four mile distance is something of a novelty these days on the road racing circuit and the large field shows that the distance holds an attraction for runners, joggers and walkers.
The race started and finished at the new GAA pitch and incredibly only 20 meters separated the start and finish line of the race. The route took the participants east bound on the R148 towards Enfield through the village of Clonard and onwards to take a right turn onto Keegan's boreen to cross the M4/M6. The route then took a right turn on the Clonard Edenderry road to return back to Clonard with another crossing of the M4/M6 motorway.
As this was the first running of the race the support from local athletes was very visible.
Credit must go to Clonard GAA and Clonard Community Council who provided excellent organisation on all aspects of the race including event management, parking and race stewarding with the Gardai. This race can be an example to every other club in Ireland in how a properly organised race can be run.
