I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

This is a photograph from the Rathfarnham 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 28th September 2013 at 10:00. This is one of the most popular runs in South County Dublin and is held in support of St. Luke's Cancer Hospital, Rathgar. This year's race attracted over 1,300 participants and the run is open to runners, joggers and walkers. The course is one of the fastest 5ks in the country with a downhill start and finish. This is an excellently organised race with marhsalling at every junction and Garda enforced road closures for the duration of the race. This race was held on a beautiful autumn morning. There was little or no breeze and there was mild temperatures of around 15C for the race.
This is a photograph which is part of a large set of photographs taken at the 1KM and 4KM mark on the course. The entire set of photographs can be found here on our Flickr profile at the following link: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157647710188747/
Timing and event management was provided by Precision Timing. Results are available on their website at www.precisiontiming.net/result.aspx?v=2100 with additional material available on their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/davidprecisiontiming?fref=ts) See their promotional video on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-7_TUVwJ6Q
The race starts at the easterly side of the N81 Tempelogue Road and Springfield Avenue. The start area is shown here on Google StreetView (goo.gl/maps/kg7FY). The race follows Springfield Avenue along the side of Bushy Park. The race overlaps the final kilometer and the finish as it proceeds to the Rathfarnham Road (Shown here Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/gRrI6). The route heads north on Rathfarnham road as there is a very gentle incline until the junction with the Temleogue Road is reached and runners make a sharp left turn onto the N81 (shown here Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/51S2t). The race then heads south along Templeogue Road where the runners can see the course unfold straight infront of them. The race turns left at Springfield Avenue again (start area) and the final Kilometer is as the first to the finish area (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/1R08S) just before the Rathfarnham Road Junction. Overall this course is a flat and fast course. There is a net gain of 15M over the whole course with slightly downhill gradients at the start and towards the finish. The course is completely left-handed which makes for favourable conditions. All being equal the course provides an excellent opportunity for every from elite competitors to joggers to set a fast time for themselves.

This is a photograph from the 4th annual running of the Donadea 50K Ultramarathon which was held in Donadea Forest, Stapelstown, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 10:00 on February 15th 2014. The race was also an International Association of Ultrarunners Bronze Label Event and the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) National 50KM Championships. Over 160 participants took part in the event.

The event took place on a 5KM loop of Donadea Forest Park (read more below). The recent stormy and very wet conditions in Ireland made way for perfect running weather for the race. There was a slight breeze here and there on the route but for the most part the route was very sheltered. With so much running traffic on the course certain parts of the course became more muddy as time went on. However, this bother the participants who were expecting conditions to be much more difficult.
Congratulations to Anthony Lee of Donadea Running Club and Donadea Running Club for putting countless hours of voluntary effort into the staging of this event. The event has all the hallmarks of a professional event. There was a superb atmosphere around the loop as locals and other runners supported the runners.
Donadea Forest Park is situated in rural north Kildare and is approximately 640 acres in size. The amenities at the forest include good walking trails, a diversity of natural habitats, a walled stream, a large natural lake, and the ruins of Donadea castle. The Park is a designated National Heritage Area. The basic designation for wildlife is the Natural Heritage Area (NHA). This is an area considered important for the habitats present or which holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. It is a special event to allow the 50KM to be held in this environment.

This is a photograph from a larger set of photographs from the Castlepollard 5KM Road Race and Fun Run 2018, also known as the Tullynally Challenge, which was held in Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 15th August 2018 at 20:00. The race is hosted by North Westmeath Athletic Club. The weather was reasonably good for road racing. The participants had a very stiff breeze in their faces on the outward stretch and all the way to the 2KM mark within Tullynally. This then became a helpful tailwail for the final KM of the race. Otherwise there was nice mild conditions for running.
Starting off many years ago the race was very much a local affair drawing runners from the sounding areas of Mullingar, North East Meath, Cavan, and Longford. However, the race has grown in stature and popularity over the years and is now one of the most well attended road races in the midlands and sees participants from all over Ireland. The race offers prizes in all categories. The Castlepollard 5KM Road Race attempts to support young runners and walkers by organising a range of underage races around the town square before the adult race at 20:00. Profits from the race go towards grassroots athletics in the region - North Westmeath Athletics, Schools Cross Country, and local community games. As summer moves into autumn the Castlepollard 5KM can be considered as the unofficial ending of summer evening road racing in the midlands as with the fading light of the late summer evenings comes less opportunities to hold races in the evening time. Castlepollard is a small town located in North County Westmeath amongst the lakes of Lough Lene and Lough Derravagh. One of the show pieces of the race landscape is Tullynally Castle which provides almost 2.5KM of the race route. The name Tullynally is an adaption of 'Tulaigh an Eallaigh' – the Hill of the Swan. The hill overlooks the mythical Lough Derravaragh. Irish folklore legend names the lake as where the Children of Lir, who were turned into swans, were destined to live for 300 years. Tullynally Castle is still a family home to this day. It provides a dramatic and historic setting for the race.
One of the enduring symbols of the Castlepollard 5KM is the tireless work of Andy MacEoin of North Westmeath AC who has been a visitor to almost every road race in the Midlands and beyond over the past number of months to publicize the event. Many of the participants tonight will have seen Andy's strategically placed advertising signs around other road race routes. Certainly this work, and that of many other members of North Westmeath AC, has paid off well.
The race begins near the center of the town square and proceeds directly out the R395 towards Coole and Edgeworthstown. The first KM is flat and quick allowing the field to spread out. The race then enters the Tullynally Castle estate and proceeds up the tree-lined avenue. The gardens, like the castle are on a grand scale, taking in nearly 12 acres. This allows the race to make a big loop of the gardens with a quick downhill stretch followed by a sharp climb before the race rejoins it's outgoing path for the final 1.5KM of the race. The final 1100M from the gate of the Castle grounds to the finish is as the first - fast and flat and allows for a great finish passing the GAA grounds with finish line just outside the local Fire Station. This year almost 350 took part in the race. It goes without saying that the Castlepollard 5KM has become one of the "must do" road race events in the midlands. Everything that is good about club road racing in Ireland can be found here.

The Rainbow Connection
A Dream becomes Reality
(God Speaking To Anne Terri Through The Holy Spirit)
I love Preparing Perfect Timing Surprises for Anne and Carlo. Several days ago, We Announced to Our followers online, that there would be intermittent Internet connections for a week, as the provider is working on the line.
This morning they awakened early to be able to spend a few moments online and check their email. Anne was anxious to view the teaser trailer for a film currently in production under the working title of Dark Air Movie, that Carlo had backed for her, as We are currently interacting behind the scenes with those who are a part of this film, which is one for the adults, those who loved Gremlins. Yes it's that time of the year, Halloween.
This film includes a puppeteer, who's from the days of Jim Henson's Muppets, and is also performing in a great children's series for BBC - The Furchester Hotel, as Uncle Furgus. I Am Delighted with his new project, a film destined to please children both young and old. This is Andrew Spooner, whose career spans many years of puppeteer performances and teaching of the art.
We are also Sharing amazing projects from the past, through Makmusic.blog, written by Mak Wilson a Puppeteerwho has retired from the film and TV industry now focusing on writing his memoirs and music for the historical purpose of sharing his roots. If you've seen the film 'BABE' or 'The Return to Oz, you've see only a small portion of his work. He's also a part of The Furchester Hotel in Season 1 as Harvey P. Dull.
We are busily Interacting with them, to keep the spirits up, for there is so much happening behind the scenes in relation to Kermit the frog and Puppeteer Steve Whitmire. We want to keep the quality of children's entertainment at a high level, for it's Paramount to the future.
So much has happened over the past months, but allow Me first to Share with you the Dream I Sent Anne five days ago. For this Dream, We begin a new section in our Dreams area named Raising The Faith-Helping Others. Most of the Dreams and Visions Documented, are for the building of The Third Testament. Anne, also place this in Our Rainbow Miracles, and in My Film Reviews area.

Anne Terri's Dream: Waterspouts and A Rainbow
In this dream, she found herself standing on the beach facing the sea, and thinking about Steve Whitmire's plight, and saw before her a line of dark clouds. From this line of clouds she witnessed several waterspouts beginning to form to reach downward to the sea. They were interrupted for suddenly, along the horizon where the sea meets the water line, she saw a vivid rainbow in the distance, just behind the storm. She shut her eyes at them moment, and even in the darkness the rainbow remained for her to see. She found this amazing.
AMEN”
“October 30, 2017 God's Transcript: The Rainbow Connection
(God Speaking To Anne Terri Through The Holy Spirit)
I Held this Dream for Official Documentation until now, for yesterday We Shared it in a private area for those who are a part of Muppet Pundit, Steve Whitmire's site, to help the supporters who are waiting for his next blog, as he has much business to attend to.
Today, after I Gave Anne My Directives for this morning, she lost Internet Connection, thus I Prompted her to go to the grocery at this time. When she stepped out from the apartment building, she noted rain drops on the street. She turned to her right and saw the most brilliant of rainbows over the building before her.
She ran back into the house and grabbed the camera, and came back outside to run up to the promenade by the sea. The rainbow now as in her dream was over the water, but the cloud line had two water spouts forming but there was a unique bright blue area between the clouds where the rainbow continued it's full arc. The photos show you how wide this was for now it's as if her dream rainbow had grown to fill the entire skyscape.
The meaning of this is to Raise your Faith for everything for those whom We are Assisting, if they Believe in Me, will have a way to find their Rainbow Connection even at the worst of times.
Go forward with this in mind, and always find the good in all you have accomplished and will accomplish in the futures. Keep in mind also that Life is Eternal, and no woe is permanent.
Please enjoy the rainbow photographs Anne took in the rain.
AMEN”
This is a photograph from the first running of the Mullingar Half Marathon which was held on Tuesday 17th March 2015 St. Patrick's Day Lá Fhéile Pádraig in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland at 11:00. Just under 600 people participated in the event which was a wonderful success on the event's first running. The event was in aid of the charity Childline. The weather was perfect for distance running and the course was a perfect mixture of town, flat bogland country roads and a long stretch along the beautiful Royal Canal. The race started on Austin Friars' Street and finished in town park beside the Annebrook Hotel.
Our full set of photographs from today's event are available on Flickr at the following link https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157651394365962/

When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?
If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.
Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

You will find the link above clearly outlined in the description text which accompanies this photograph. Taking these photographs and preparing them for online posting does take a significant effort and time. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc. If you are using the photographs in newspapers or magazines we ask that you mention where the original photograph came from.

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Creative Commons aims to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I want to tell people about these great photographs!

This is a photograph from the 3rd round of the 2017 Pat Finnerty Memorial 5KM Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 17th May 2017 at 20:00. The Road League is promoted and organised by Mulligar Harriers Athletic Club and sponsored by local sponsors including O'Brien's Renault dealership. This is a very well established as an annual event which takes place on every Wednesday night in the month of May. Following on from the great weather from last week's race this evening's racing seen a more changeable evening. There were some heavy showers earlier in the dead and the sky showed the possibility of rain. There was a strong headwind facing the runners in the first kilometer of the race. As this was the third out of four races in the league there were slightly less participants tonight. Just under 200 participants took part in the race which runs a traffic free course over a mix of road and hilly forest trail.
Timing and event management was provided by http://www.myrunresults.com/. Their website will contain the results to today's race.

Some people commenting are thinking this kite has picked up a fish, but in fact its picked up a piece of meat that another bird has dropped on the water.

This is a photograph from the 45th running of the Dunboyne 4 Mile Road Race and Fun Run in Dunboyne Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 30th of March at 15:00. The event is sponsored by EirGrid. The "Dunboyne 4" lays rightful claim to being one of Ireland's longest and best established road races. It is now a landmark event in the Irish road racing calendar. Henry James once said "It takes an endless amount of history to make even a little tradition". Well the tradition of the 4 Mile Road Race is very safe as witness again today with over 1,000 participants taking part. Today's event yet again showed that it is one of heartbeats of Irish road racing.
We have an extensive set of photographs on our Flickr Photostream: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157643169446555/

The "Dunboyne 4" offers a racing opportunity for everyone from elite international runners, to club runners, to joggers, first-time runners, and walkers. The atmosphere as the race returns to the village at the 2.5 mile mark is one of the best atmosphere's in local Irish athletics as it seems the whole village and associated supporters have come out to encourage the participants.
This is a brilliantly organised race with every detail taken care of to the highest standard. This is to the credit of all of the volunteers from Dunboyne AC, Meath Athletics, and the local community of Dunboyne and surrounding areas. It is a race by which others can measure themselves.
Dunboyne AC also shows it's committment to growing the next generation of athletes and runners in Ireland by hosting a set of Juvenile Races before the senior event. Based on the final mile of the course there are runs for Ages 9, 12, and 15 year old boys and girls.
The race starts at Dunboyne Business Park on the Navan Road (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/RaS62) and proceeds south into the Village and straight ahead onto the Maynooth Road. The race passed Dunboyne Castle Hotel to the left. The one mile mark is reached at the roundabout where the race turns right and heads across the Village by-pass and towards the Dunboyne Summerhill Road. The two mile mark is just at the next roundabout where the race turns right towards the village again. One of the best parts of the race is the atmosphere as the race passes through the village with the crowds adding to the spectacle. The race must now complete one mile where the runners go along Station road, turn left at Mill Farm Road (near Race HQ) and join back to the race start with a downhill finished into the village (Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/GfK0T).

Don't forget to scroll down to see more information about the race and these photographs!
Timing, results, and event management was provided by RedTagTiming - results available at www.redtagtiming.com/

The $25 Snapping Turtle...Sue's Photo & Description:
Traveling down highway 40B we saw something on the road. As we got closer we saw this snapping turtle. This is a very busy highway at times so we stopped and I got out of the car. another car was heading right for the turtle. To make this long story shorter...I took off my sweater and placed it over the turtle and picked it up. I took him across the road in the directing he was heading. No one told me that turtles stink...I mean really stink. Off to Walmart to get a new sweater...no good deed goes unpunished :) Yes, it was a big one and very heavy...that surprised me.
Hah, sometimes timing is everything. I was getting photos of this golden Syrphid Fly (Syrphidae, Diptera) when it suddenly took a dump! If you compare this photo of a similar fly, you can see that its abdomen actually telescopes out to deliver its drop of yellow goo. Maybe this is the species Syrphus opinator which is said to be common in central California. I just happened to post another similar photo yesterday of a different kind of fly that just did the same thing. I already have my two photos for the Fly Day Friday group, but HFDF anyway! This is a photograph from the 5th annual Craughwell 10 Mile Road Race which took place in Craughwell Village, Co. Galway, Ireland on Sunday 23rd March 2014 at 13:00. The 'Craughwell 10' has grown quickly to become not just one of Connaught's best known and attended road races but one of Ireland's best road races. Rather uniquely for road races in Ireland today the Craughwell 10 Mile road race offers a fully traffic free route for participants. The fast primarily flat course brings participants on the network of rural country roads to the west of Craughwell village. This year's event attracted a record number of over 650 participants building on the 600+ finishers from last year's race (results available below).

Results are available on RedTagTiming's website www.redtagtiming.com who provided the chip timing for the event.

The organisation team of Craughwell AC and a huge team of volunteers from the local community deserve great praise and congratulations on the excellent work that they put into making the Craughwell 10 such an outstanding success. A race of this size is a mammoth undertaking and it's flawless organisation is a tribute to the volunteer work behind the scenes.
Route Description
The race starts in Craughwell Village and then heads west on country roads. The route takes a right turn after 1KM and heads north towards Caheradine. The route then takes a left and heads west again towards the N18. After 4 miles the race takes another left (goo.gl/maps/khTi4) heading south. Just before 6 miles another left turn brings the race back towards Craughwell village. This leaves the runners with a straight run to the finish area from here and the finish in the Primary School. There was a stiff cold breeze at different parts of the course but for the most part there was good stretches of tail winds also. There were water stations at two points in the course.
The AAI County Galway 10 mile Road Race Championships took place in conjunction with the race today which ensured that there was great competition amongst Co. Galway based clubs at all categories.
The spread of refreshments after the race was incredible. Every taste was catered for. The organisers were thoughtful enough to include a wide range of gluten free goodies for participants after the race.

Being there, seeing and taking action.
It takes all three to get a photo like this.
Call it serendipity, luck, timing, what you may, it still takes more. Being aware of the present moment, open to seeing what's going on, and of course, having a camera available and being ready to use it.
Sissy likes to look out our windows. In fact, show me any cat that doesn't do this exact behavior and more than once a day, and that's a very old and tired cat. House cats may be sedentary 97% of the time, but they make up for it in the remaining 3%. The birds in the tree branches just outside the window have a fascination for Sissy especially of our two cats. She has the heart of a huntress.
She pays attention, and sees.
Timing signals for the new detector system for the next 3D unit (2013) with 2 external fast 6 ms shutters. I would like to calculate the optimal position as well as the direction of flight. Detector calculation need to be super fast, into less then 50us. The readout of the 128 analog pixels from the sensor + high-speed ADC 8 bits convertion may take a max of 40 us, +60 us for position-direction calculation (10.000 calculations per second). This is a start of my dream, the special components have been delivered. Given the new components, the majority are implanted in SMD. This is an additional difficulty, only single-layer PCB is available at this moment. The line-sensor is true hole 14 pins version, all others are SMD.
Discussion can also be followed on the next Dutch forum:
www.circuitsonline.net/forum/view/106096
Now I will start the verilog code programming for the FPGA board. PLL clock at 50 MHz is running, now I have to add all the other signals. Line sensor readout and the serial ADC convertion need to be perfect synchroon as show in the diagram. Change the value of the PLL clock to a lower value may vari the readout and acquisition duration of the sensor/adc convertor. Easy to adjust this integration times.
Update 2012 Aug 06
Timing adjusted and corrected for read out to the FPGA module. The read out time is only half of the past because of the use of two ADC 7888 highspeed converters.

I was coming home in yet another bout of snow and this song came on the radio at just the right time, perfect for a Holiday Greeting to all my flickr pals.
My Christmas Wish for you:
If you have to drive in a snowstorm, may you have a big-ass plow to lead you safely home.

This is a photograph from the Ringtown GAA Club Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races, fun runs, and walks which were held in Whitehall, Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Easter Sunday (April 21st 2014) at 11:15 and 11:30 respectively. Ringtown GAA club is situated in Whitehall which is on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard. The GAA club is shown here on Google Streetview [goo.gl/maps/UI9tD]. The half marathon started outside the GAA club. The 10KM race started about 1KM away from the start/finish area. Both races shared the same route. The race event was also a fundraiser for the charity TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accomodation Mullingar) which provides emergency accomodation for women and children of the midlands who are subject of domestic and sexual violence. They are located at Teach Fáilte, Green Road, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

The half marathon started at the GAA club. The main loop of 6 miles started here and proceeded around some beautiful rural back roads with major turns at [goo.gl/maps/8Iw9S], [goo.gl/maps/in6yE], and goo.gl/maps/JJzwM before joining up with the R394 and Castlepollard and returning back to Ringtown/Whitehall.
This was the GAA club's first attempt at staging a running event and the overwhelming reaction of participants was that it went perfectly. There was a team of Motorcycle outriders and Gardai who expertly controlled traffic flow (particularly along the very busy R394) and made for very safe running conditions for all participants. There was a wonderful selection of refreshments provided afterwards and maybe people were able to sit out in the sun and enjoy a well earned rest after the race. Shower facilities were provided in the GAA club.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Air Berlin A330 D-ALPI taxies past the spectators terrace at Dusseldorf in June 2012 complete with BER titles describing Berlin-Brandenburg as Europe's most modern airport. This is a effectively a major expansion of Schönefeld, the old East Berlin airport.
A dubious claim as six years later it is still not open and it won't be until 2020 or even 2021. Meanwhile Air Berlin have gone to the wall and the terrace from where I made this photo closed back in 2015.
The A330 shown started life with LTU, and after Air Berlin's collapse was put in storage, but in June 2018 found new use with Malaysia Airlines.

An unexpected purchase over the Bank Holiday weekend, I've seen this regularly only a few miles up the road and had left a note on it over a year ago.
Owner had been offered only a small amount as a trade-in against a van, in reality scrap money, and wanted it go to a decent home and to get a bit more for it if he could. Although it's not great timing, with the purchase of a V6 estate due soon and more work being needed on the house, I was able to oblige...
Once I'd viewed it and got some cash out he was even able to drive it to mine, so I had no insurance issues to deal with. Tax just expired and MoT due very soon, but it doesn't seem to want for much so I'll take it to the garage for their verdict and hopefully get it on the road. Certainly drives well, and it's old enough to go on my classic insurance policy.
Maybe it'll eventually become a spares car for the estate, or I'll just sell it on, but for now I'd rather keep using it to avoid the brakes going sticky etc.

This is a photograph from the 60th Anniversary Commerative Half Marathon for Tullamore Harriers AC which was held on Saturday 31st August 2013 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This was a really great event and there couldn't be any fault found with any aspect of the race. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event.
Race event manangement and organisations was provided by PRECISION TIMING - see their website at [www.precisiontiming.net/]
This photograph is one of a set of photographs from the Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon 2013. The permanent link to the full set of photographs is [http://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157635307620452/]. This set of photographs includes photographs of the start and then photographs of the finish up to the 2 HOUR finishing time.
This race celebrates the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joing routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The race today brings competitive national road racing back to The Harriers. In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup
Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 500 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.
Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was more favourable to runners.
Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.
Location Map: Start/finish and registration and race HQ was all at Tullamore Harriers AC Club Grounds: goo.gl/maps/xZ4GM (Google Streetview)
Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.
