Timing optical detector systeem 2013.

 

This is a new version of the optical detector. There is another line array used with 400 dpi. As a result, the detection resolution doubles. The used line array is TSL1401CL. There are some advantages in relation to the previous line array. The integration time is the same for all pixels. The light charges are transferred once at the start of the readout for all 128 pixels. This array is faster but now has only 1 output line. All 128 pixels must now be read out serially to the same pin, the foregoing could be read via 2 outputs. But this array is faster so the shortest integration time remains low. The ADC converters should now be faster. The new version with the ADC7885 now has a bandwidth of 30 MHz and a serial clock to 48 MHz. I now use 2 of these converters via serial time multiplexing.

 

The line array has 400 dpi versus 200 dpi of the TSL202R. The optical lenght pad is now only the half. The detector has double resolution in depth, a great feature for macro closeup. 1 pixel shift is now only 0.4mm depth at 500 mm distance. At closer settings this value is proportionally smaller.

 

Not easy, but nice job for the FPGA controller. The timing is show for an 40 MHz PLL clock but this may be higher if need to 64 Mhz or even 96 Mhz. The TSL1401CL is a very small SMD version. I will show later how to put him on the single layer PCB board.

This is a photograph from the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon was held on Saturday 30th August 2014 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 12:00. This is the second year of the event. Last year, 2013, the event commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs. The race was perfectly organised. There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each. In total 568 participants completed the race which is almost 150 more than the 2013 event.

As mentioned above last year this race marathon race celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". In the past there was the famous Quinnlan Cup

Festival of Races (see a link below for some nostalgia) which was one of Ireland's Blue Ribband events with some very famous names of the past lining out for that four mile race. Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.

 

Overall Race Summary

Participants: There was 568 participants of runners, joggers, and walkers.

Weather: The midday start seen warm pleasant conditions for running. The layout of the course meant that there was a stiff breeze into the face of competitors for the first few miles up to mile 6. When the race turned around to return to Tullamore the wind was somewhat more favourable to runners.

Course: The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including sandwiches, cakes, home-made breads, etc in the Harriers clubhouse afterwards. People were able to enjoy their post race refreshments outside in the warm pleasant sunshine.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

 

     ►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

     ►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

     ►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

     ►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

I set off from Knighton last Saturday morning on an attempt to walk the Owain Glyndwr Way. My timing was awful, on Saturday and Sunday it rained all day and I was walking directly into it. The storms were of gale force intensity and overnight I got some nervous rest but little in the way of sleep. On my third night camped at about 1400' close to the Penycrocben Roman Fort the conditions were touch and go but I thought I had got away with it. Until that was I started to try to get my Laser-Comp down and as can be seen the wind pressure was so great the pole burst through its sleeve. So that was that, battled against the wind for 17 miles to Machynlleth - mercifully the rain held off. Consequential losses, well my pre-booked advance ticket (£25.10) from Welshpool or Friday 18th. April is a goner and my senior discounted railcard ticket from Machynlleth cost another £55. I expect the tent's had it too, haven't had the heart to look at it yet. Can't blame Wales but the weather was terrible. So 80 hard miles done, fingers crossed for the remaining 60 will have another go in the "summer"!

Totally coincidental timing but I just arrived in Willow Springs for a special invitational event from Toyota and Gran Turismo called "Yaris Club Sport Challenge" where different members of the media will be competing both for virtual times in GT5 and real lap times on streets of willow in a SCCA prepped Yaris. Diocese of Phoenix ordains first auxiliary bishop

AVONDALE — Eduardo Alanís Nevares was ordained a bishop July 19 during a three-hour long Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. He will assist Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted and serve the Diocese of Phoenix as its first auxiliary bishop.

 

“I come with great faith and great trust,” Bishop Nevares said after the Mass. “I’m going to go around preaching the Gospel to everyone.”

 

The day was historic for the diocese not only because Bishop Nevares is its first auxiliary bishop, but also because he is its first Hispanic bishop. In light of the recent immigration law SB 1070, many have seen the bishop’s appointment as heaven-sent — a fact he alluded to after Mass.

 

Describing himself as a “bridge person” who can draw people together, Bishop Nevares said the timing of his new assignment is something “providential.”

 

“I will help Bishop Olmsted,”Bishop Nevares said. “He has asked especially that I animate the Hispanic community and raise up men and women to the priesthood and religious life.”

 

At the same time, the newly ordained bishop stressed that he will not just be a bishop for Hispanic Catholics.

 

“He’s here to serve everybody,” said Jose Robles, director of Hispanic Ministry for the diocese.

 

During the Mass, Bishop Nevares was greeted by a number of different local ethnic groups, including Chinese, Korean, Sudanese, Tongan, Native American and more.

 

“I must admit that now I know I am not in Tyler,” the bishop joked about his previous diocese in east Texas after the procession ended. “I’ve never been greeted by so many beautiful ethnic groups.”

 

During his homily, Bishop Olmsted encouraged his new auxiliary to view his office as one of service, not of prestige.

 

“It is our privilege and our duty to serve and not to be served, to put others’ needs ahead of our own, and to resist all temptations to lord it over anyone,” Bishop Olmsted said.

 

“This is the example that the Lord Jesus left for us, when he washed the feet of the Apostles, and then said to them, ‘What I just did was to give you an example: as I have done, so you must do,’” he said.

 

Bishop Olmsted also emphasized the need for a bishop to live without fear, and quoted the famous Polish Cardinal Wyszynski who said, “Lack of courage in a bishop is the beginning of a disaster.”

 

“It is our honor and privilege, as well as our first obligation, to make known the Gospel of Christ in all its purity and integrity,” he said.

 

After the homily, Bishop Nevares knelt before Bishop Olmsted while two deacons held the Book of Gospels over his head. Bishop Olmsted then anointed Bishop Nevares’ forehead with oil. Finally, more than 20 visiting bishops — including Cardinal Roger Mahoney of Los Angeles — laid their hands on the new bishop’s head and prayed for him.

 

At one part during the Mass, the soon to be ordained bishop lay prostrate in front of the altar while the congregation chanted the Litany of Saints, an emotional and profound moment for him.

 

“God, here’s my life. It’s for you,” Bishop Nevares described his thoughts during the liturgy.

 

A number of priests, friends and family from Texas attended the ordination. Bishop Olmsted credited the Nevares family a number of times during Mass for supporting Bishop Nevares’ vocation. He said he looked forward to their future visits to the Valley.

 

“Nuestra casa es su casa,” the bishop said.

 

Bishop Nevares’ parents were Mexican immigrants who came to the United States while he was in the womb. Born and raised in Houston, the 11-year-old future bishop was inspired by a visiting missionary who talked of his work in Madagascar.

 

As a teenager, he attended a junior seminary for the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, into whose order he was ordained a priest in 1981. In 2007, he was incardinated into the Diocese of Tyler, where he had been serving for years.

 

Known for his outreach to Hispanics, Bishop Nevares formed the area’s first Spanish-speaking program to train men to be permanent deacons.

 

It’s this reputation that has excited so many local Hispanics since learning of his appointment in Phoenix.

 

“We have someone like ourselves in this position. We can identify with him,” said Manuel Torres Caballero, a parishioner at St. Martin de Porres. “We feel that also with our Bishop Olmsted, because he speaks Spanish, but with Bishop Nevares, we get something else. I don’t know how to describe it.”

 

Caballero said it’s a difficult and fraught time for Hispanics locally and Bishop Nevares’ ordination provides some joy and hope.

 

“We feel hope in a difficult time, joy and happiness,” he said. “We feel supported."

The Iconic Ford Power Live Event took Place at Brands Hatch to Celebrate The Blue Badged Ford Motor Company and their Iconic Cars From both the Past and The Present. From Escort Mexico's to Modern Ford Mustang GT'S there was Everything for the Ford Enthusiast to enjoy.

 

The Support Races Featured During the Day were also Full of Different Makes and Models of Ford Racing Cars From The Focus RS to the Ford Escort and the Iconic Sierra Cosworth and even the Iconic Enduro KA series was Present and with Drivers and Spectators Ready the Racing was about to begin.

First up Champion of Brands and with Fast and High Speed Action from Thease Machines Lets See who took that all important People Position to Start the Race in P1.

 

In First Place was (Tom Mills) in his Spectrum KMR with a Best Lap Time of 50.154 and a Top Speed of 86.70mph. Amazing work there Tom a truly Heroic and Brave Drive for Pole Position.

 

In Second Place was (Niall Murray) in his Van Diemen BD21 with a Best Lap Time of 50.397 and a Top Speed of 86.28mph. Fantastic Work Niall Very Fast and Quick Driving.

 

In Third Place was (Colin Queen) in his Ray GR18 with a Best Lap Time of 50.399 and a Top Speed of 86.28mph. Another Incredible Driver in Colin Pushing Hard and Almost Taking Second Place from Niall. I think we are in for some Really Intense Racing but who will be Fast Enough to on Track to Take Victory?

After a Thrilling Battle that saw Tom Mills take Pole Position its time to find out who Won the Race and out of The Top Three Could Anyone else on the Grid Challenge them for a Spot on the Podium. Lets Find Out.

 

In First Place and taking the Win was (Niall Murray) in his Van Diemen BD21 with a Lap Time of 50.518 and an Average Speed of 77.40mph. Incredible work there Niall Beating back Tom to take Victory in the First Race and a Well Determined Drive to Secure it.

 

In Second Place was (Tom Mills) in his Spectrum KMR with a Lap Time of 50.706 and an Average Speed of 77.38mph. Amazing Drive there Tom Keeping up with Niall and a Fantastic Battle thought the entire Race too.

 

In Third Place was (Colin Queen) in his RAY GR18 with a Lap Time of 50.820 and an Average Speed of 77.32mph. A Great Victory for Third Place on the Podium Colin showing a Determined Drive and a lot of Bravery thought the Race.

Race 2 Up Next and The Final Time for Anyone Racing in Champion of Brands to Score Points and Take Victory in either First Second or Third Place. After a Thrilling End to Race 1 which Saw Tom Mills getting Beaten by Niall Murray it was time to see who could Once Again bring the Roar and Thunder Home for a Final Time.

 

In First Place was (Niall Murray) in his Van Diemen BD21 with a Lap Time of 50.584 and an Average Speed of 84.84mph. Another Incredible Drive from Niall to once again take The Final Pole Position for Champion of Brands. Brilliant Drive there Niall.

 

In Second Place was (Tom Mills) in his Spectrum KMR with a Lap Time of 50.606 and an Average Speed of 84.47mph. Another Well Deserved Second Place for Tom Showing Incredible Car Control and Bravery Pushing the Limits on Every Corner to Keep up with Niall. Fantastic Drive Tom.

 

In Third Place was (Lucan Romenek) in his Van Diemen JL13 with a Lap Time of 50.927 and an Average Speed of 83.92mph. Very Well Done there Lucan Fantastic to see a New Driver take a Step onto the Podium and Celebrate the Victory.

Clubman Sports Prototypes were up next and thease Mad Looking Machines are known for their Supreme Aerodynamics as well as Insane Straight Line Speed. each Driver will have to be on the ball and Keeping their Machine under Constant Control as they will be Powering round this 1,2 mile Indy Circuit at Speeds of at Least 90mph.

Next Up we take a Look to the Focus Cup Championship a Racing Series which Features the use of Ford Focus Road Cars Built to Racing Specifications. Thease Cars all Use The ZTEC 2.0 TDCI Engines and Have Proven to be Very Quick and also Very Twitchy when out Racing.

MSVR Elise Trophy (Qualifying)

 

Next Up is the MSR Elise Trophy

with the Focus of this Race being on the Lotus Elise S1 S2 and S3 with Just One Qualifying Session and Just 1 Race This will be A Test of Will Power and Determination on the Track to see who can Take Victory.

 

First Lets look to Qualifying and See who will be Starting on the Front Row.

 

In First Place taking the Pole and Fastest Lap was (Maurizio Sciglio) in his Lotus Elise S2 with a Best Lap Time of 53.544 and a Top Speed of 81.21mph. Fantastic work there Maurizio to take P1 and start o the Front Row of the Grid.

 

In Second Place was (Jason Mcinulty) in his Lotus Elise S3 with a Best Lap Time of 53.914 and a Top Speed of 80.65mph. Very Well Done there Jason Putting in one Hell of a Quick Time to Gain P2 on the Grid.

 

In Third Place was (Simon Walsh) in his Lotus Elise S2 111R with a Best Lap Time of 54.076 and a Top Speed of 80.41mph. Incredible Drive from Simon to put Himself in P3.

 

With Three Very Quick Drivers in Maurizio Jason and Simon it was Time to see if Anyone Could challenge them and Win the Only Race of the Day for the Lotus Elise Trophy.

 

MSVR Elise Trophy (Race 1)

 

In First Place taking The Victory was (Jason Mcinulty) in his Lotus Elise S3 with a Lap Time of 54.638 and an Average Speed of 66.83mph. Fantastic Victory for Jason taking P1 and The Race Win for the Elise Trophy. Phenomenal Driving too.

 

In Second Place was (John Lamaster) in his Lotus Elise S2 135R with a Lap Time of 54.781 and an Average Speed of 66.75mph. Fantastic work John and So Great to see a New Face on the Podium Taking P2 what an Incredible Driver.

 

In Third Place was (David Alexander) in his Lotus Elise S1 with a Lap Time of 55.589 and an Average Speed of 66.62mph. Very Well Driven Dave Keeping an Eye out all over the Place and Bringing Home a Superb P3 Finish.

Modified Ford Series (Qualifying Group A)

 

Now it was Time to head Back to the Blue Badged Ford Machines Once again as the Modified Ford Series Rolled out onto the Race Track with each car being Heavily Modified from their Road Counterparts. With Escort Cosworth's and RS200's Roaring and Ready to go it was Time to see what the First Group A set of Drivers could do in Qualifying.

 

Due to how large the Grids were and the Fact that both Group A and Group B Have Different Races I will only be putting up results from both Qualifying Sessions from Group A and Group B. I will Leave a Link Below each Qualifying Session so you can Get All the Race Result's and Action from the 4 Different Races.

  

Modified Ford Series (Qualifying Group A)

 

In First Place Taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was (David Cockell) in his Ford Escort Cosworth with a Best Lap Time of 49.872 and a Top Speed of 87.19mph. Very Well Done David Keeping that Escort on the Track Must Have Taken some Practice no Doubt Amazing work on Getting Pole.

 

In Second Place was (Wayne Crabtree) in his Ford RS200 with a Best Lap Time of 51.121 and a Top Speed of 85.06mph. Very Fast Drive from Wayne to take P2 and a Very Solid Drive Thought.

 

In Third Place was (Michael Saunders) in his Ford Escort MK1 Mexico with a Best Lap Time of 51.129 and an Average Speed of 85.05mph. Very Well Driven by Michael Being Able to Keep up with Both Wayne and David Must Have Ben a Real Pain but what a Fantastic Achievement.

In First Place Taking Pole Position and The Fastest Lap was (Neil Jessop) in his Ford Escort MK2 with a Best Lap Time of 52.030 and a Top Speed of 83.57mph. Fantastic Work there Neil and a Really Quick Escort to match too. Very Well Done.

 

In Second Place was (James Harris) in his Ford Escort MK2 with a Best Lap Time of 53.928 and a Top Speed of 80.63mph. Amazing work there James Pushing Hard and Giving the Old Girl everything she has to offer.

 

In Third Place was (Malcom Harding) in his Ford Escort MK1 with a Best Lap Time of 54.892 and a Top Speed of 79.22mph. Awesome Drive there from Malcom Overcoming a lot of Pressure to put in an Incredible Lap for P3.

Enduro KA (Qualifying)

 

The Final Qualifying Session of the Day Had Come and its the Enduro KA'S. with all of the Cars on the Grid being Models of the Popular Ford KA made Between 1998-2009 thease Cars were Fun City cars that could get you from A to B with Ease. They were Also Build on a tight budget meaning that Handling Performance and Comfort were a Big Selling point of thease Brilliant little cars.

 

The Racing Versions seen here in the pictures however are built for Racing. they use different tyres but still the same Legendary 1.3 Dura Tec Engine found in their Road Going Counterparts.

 

Lets Take a look at Qualifying and see which KA and Driver made it to the top step of the podium.

 

Enduro KA (Qualifying)

 

In First Place taking the Pole and Fastest Lap was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Best Lap Time of 1:03.495 and a Top Speed of 68.48mph. Fantastic Work Adam and Martyn Really Pushing the Car for all its worth.

 

In Second Place was (Alex Reade Motorsport Luke Reade and Chris Reade) with a Best Lap Time of 1:03.713 and a Top Speed of 68.25mph. Fantastic Drive there from Both Alex and Chris Claiming P2.

 

In Third Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Best Lap Time of 1:03.921 and a Top Speed of 68.03mph. Very Well Done there Matt Great Drive and Awesome Car Control.

 

Three Very Quick and Determined Teams and with 4 Races to Race in this will be a Very Close and Tight Battles Between all Teams and Drivers. Skill and Talent will be crucial to survival and Who will be able to take the First Victory of Race 1. Lets Find Out.

In First Place Taking the Victory was (Alex Reade Motorsport's Luke Reade and Chris Reade) with a Lap Time of 1:03.688 and an Average Speed of 67.95mph. Congratulations Both Alex and Luke on a Superb Race Victory and Well Done to hold off the Pressure from the other Competitors.

 

In Second Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.416 and an Average Speed of 67.92mph. Very Well Done to both Adam and Martyn for that Amazing P2 Finish.

 

In Third Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Lap Time of 1:03.664 and an Average Speed of 67.79mph. Incredible Work there Matt Amazing Drive and a Really Super Looking Car.

In First Place was (Alex Reade Motorsport's Luke Reade and Chris Reade) with a Lap Time of 1:03.557 and an Average Speed of 67.94mph. Another Incredible Drive from both the likes of Alex and Luke to Keep their P1 Finish From the First Race. Amazing Work.

 

In Second Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.621 and an Average Speed of 67.90mph. Fantastic Work Once Again to the likes of Adam and Martyn Another Set of Drivers Keeping their Second Place Finish.

 

In Third Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Lap Time of 1:04.005 and an Average Speed of 67.39mph. Well Done once again Matt Perfect Driving and a Well Balanced Car out there.

 

Looks like the Top Three Remain the Same even After Two Races but will Race 3 Bring a New Twist to the Current Driver and Team Standings. Lets Find Out.

In First Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.849 and an Average Speed of 67.57mph. Amazing Work there Adam and Martyn managing to topple the likes of Alex and Luke to Earn P1.

 

In Second Place was (Fat Boys Racing Matt Pinny) with a Lap Time of 1:03.584 and an Average Speed of 67.51mph. Well Done there Matt Improving up to P2 and Taking Home a Well Deserved Finish in the Standings for Race 3.

 

In Third Place was (Alex Reade Motorsport's Luke Reade and Chris Reade) with a Lap Time of 1:03.606 and an Average Speed of 67.44mph. Very Good Come Back Drive for Both Luke and Ale to Finish Third Great Driving.

 

Many Twists and Turns Have Benn brought into Race 3 with the Top Three Drivers now being Shuffled Around the Gird into different Positions. With One More Race to Go who will be The Last Driver of the Day on the Top Step of the Podium.

 

Enduro KA (Race 4 Results)

 

In First Place was (Octane Junkies Adam Smith and Martyn Smith) with a Lap Time of 1:03.442 and an Average Speed of 67.82mph. An Amazing Final Win for the Day to Octane Junkies Adam and Martyn Smith Congratulations and Very Well Driven.

 

In Second Place was (Piston Heads Peter Dignan) with a Lap Time of 1:03.781 and an Average Speed of 67.54mph. Incredible work there Peter Getting P2 and Standing on the Podium and Incredible Achievement.

 

In Third Place was (IP Racing Oliver Wilmot and Scott Parkin) with a Lap Time of 1:03.710 and an Average Speed of 67.47mph. Very Well Done to both Scott and Oliver on that Fantastic P3 Achievement. Something Very Special to Remember for both of you.

 

And With that The Days Racing at Brands Hatches Ford Power Live comes to an End and what an Incredible Array of Both Cars Teams and Drivers on Display Today. A Big Congratulations to the likes of Adam Martyn Luke Chris Peter Matt Oliver and Scott for their Incredible Achievements and All Other Drivers Keeping the World Of Motorsport Alive and Well.

Sunset from Alki beach on my last evening in Seattle. A place with such enormous potential, but you have to be mobile and on call to jump when the weather is right. This was possibly the best sunset I saw in my limited time there which I had both the ability and timing to catch the right light. Unfortunately, the spot I'd chosen didn't work out due to the tide, so I had to find an alternative quickly. This spot wasn't too far away and seemed to provide a nice enough vantage to catch the last of the light. Note to self: plan another trip out to the PNW.

I tried to film the Winton Train a private but well publicised excursion which is running from Prague to London via Harwich Parkestone Quay at Chelmsford Station.

 

Sadly this train the 10:02 to Norwich was departing as the train hauled by LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163 Tornado as it arrived southwards obscuring the view and that left many people this end of the platform bitterly disappointed.

 

The helicopter you can hear is following the train to London.

Tonight was one of those nights, while out house hunting, we had our camera gear with us, since we knew that sunset was not far in the future.

Little did we know, that a storm was also just on the horizon!

 

Just as the the last glow of the sunset was dimming, I heard what I thought was thunder.

I mentioned it, and we both then began to scan the sky....

Nothing

So we jumped in the car intending to go home,

but as we turned the first street, a anvil crawler burst out in front of us, steaking the sky!!!

That was it, we were now scurrying to find a good place to shoot from!

But where do you go when all there is is highway, shops, and ...oh what was that road?

A little road that went off towards an open area...

well relatively open....right beneath the electric power towers!

Sounded like just the right place to shoot lightening from to us!

 

Setting up quickly, just as we were about to start, a car heads our way...thinking how cool it would be to have car light trails in the forground to a possible lightening strike, I released the shutter, and what do you know...timing was everything, cuz just as the shutter was about to close, this lightening lit up the tower ahead of us!

It was brilliant!

 

Can't tell you how many times we both were looking up to the sky and watching the tower nearest us, just a few meters away...crossing our fingers.....

This is a photograph from the Longwood GAA 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs 2014 which were held in Longwood Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 19th October 2014 at 11:00. This is the fifth year which Longwood GAA have hosted race events. This year's event was an outstanding success with the number of participants doubling over last year's final numbers. There were almost 400 participants in both events with 224 in the 10KM and 166 in the 5KM. In the first three previous years the club had organised a 5KM road race. The events were organised as fundraisers for both the adult and juvenille teams at Longwood GAA club. The event also provided a fundraising opportunity for the local St. Vincent de Paul charity. Overall the whole day was a great success with the hard work put in by the organising committee ensuring that participants enjoyed their race experience. Both routes were accurately measured, kilometer points clearly marked, junctions well stewarded, and electronic timing provided. The event provided many local runners, joggers, fun runners and walkers with a local event to support whilst at the same time providing runners preparing for events such as the Dublin marathon with an opportunity to race a short, fast, distance in the lead up to marathon day. The GAA club provided excellent stewarding and traffic management all around the course. The race had a professional feel to it and it is sure to grow next year given the very positive feedback from many of the participants today.

Longwood is a small village in South East Co. Meath and is close to the town of Enfield with access to the M4 Motorway.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: There were about 400 participants over the two events.

Weather: The weather was very breezy but dry. The temperatures around 10C.

5KM Course: The 5KM started in Longwood village. Runners then took a left turn in the Village down St. Oliver's Road. This straight section of road brings runners to a left turn onto a very well maintained boreen road for less than one kilometer. The race then emerges and joins with the 10KM at Stoneyford where the runners take a left and then another left before arriving back at the finish line in Longwood GAA club. Overall this is a very fast and flat 5KM with no hills to speak of.

 

10KM Course: The 10KM event begins in Longwood Village outside Stoney's Pub (goo.gl/maps/Of4fW) and proceeds westward out of the village. There are some interesting points along this part of the course. At the 2KM point the runners will run under the double bridges - an aquaduct for the Royal Canal and a bridge carrying the Dublin Sligo Railway line. The race then enters county Kildare just before the 3km and after taking a right turn at the four-cross roads known locally as Lally's Cross it returns to County Meath on top of the River Boyne Bridge (Ashfield Bridge) which forms the county boundary. The race follows a straight road for the next 2KM until runners encounter Blackshade bridge which is the toughest climb on the route. As a point of interest Blackshade bridge brings runners back over the Royal Canal and the Railway line. The race then crosses the River Boyne again at Stoneyford before taking a right which will bring runners on a testing two kilometer stretch with some short hills. The 10KM course then joins with the 5Km course for the final 1.5KM back to Longwood GAA club for the finish.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

 

     ►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

     ►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

     ►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

     ►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

This is a photograph of the 34th Airtricity sponsored Dublin City Marathon which was held in Dublin, Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday 28th October 2013 at 09:00. There was dry but very blustery conditions for the runners over the famous Dublin Marathon course which seen over 14,000 people participating in the event making it a record participation at the event. I got there just in time for this picture!

This is a photograph from the Cork City Marathon 2014 which was held in Cork City, Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday June 2nd 2014 starting at 09:00. There are three different events: The full marathon, The Half Marathon, and a full relay of the full marathon course.

 

Electronic Timing and Event Management and Registration was provided by Precision Timing - their website will have results of the race (www.precisiontiming.net/results.aspx)

 

We have a set of photographs from today's races at various points. Firstly at the 1 mile mark and then along the Mardyke (around 3:15 - 3:30 marathon finish time) and finally at the finish around 4:50 to 5:00 marathon finish time. This is a photograph from the Rathfarnham 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 29th September 2013 at 10:00.

This is one of the most popular runs in South County Dublin and is held in support of St. Luke's Cancer Hospital, Rathgar. This year's race attracted over 1,300 participants and the run is open to runners, joggers and walkers. The course is one of the fastest 5ks in the country with a downhill start and finish. This is an excellently organised race with marhsalling at every junction and Garda enforced road closures for the duration of the race.

Overall Race Summary

Participants: There was a record number of participants with over 1,300 people taking to the start line.

Weather: This race was held on a beautiful autumn morning. There was little or no breeze and there was mild temperatures of around 15C for the race.

Course: Overall this course is a flat and fast course. There is a net gain of 15M over the whole course with slightly downhill gradients at the start and towards the finish. The course is completely left-handed which makes for favourable conditions. All being equal the course provides an excellent opportunity for every from elite competitors to joggers to set a fast time for themselves.

 

The race starts at the easterly side of the N81 Tempelogue Road and Springfield Avenue. The start area is shown here on Google StreetView (goo.gl/maps/kg7FY). The race follows Springfield Avenue along the side of Bushy Park. The race overlaps the final kilometer and the finish as it proceeds to the Rathfarnham Road (Shown here Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/gRrI6). The route heads north on Rathfarnham road as there is a very gentle incline until the junction with the Temleogue Road is reached and runners make a sharp left turn onto the N81 (shown here Google StreetView goo.gl/maps/51S2t). The race then heads south along Templeogue Road where the runners can see the course unfold straight infront of them. The race turns left at Springfield Avenue again (start area) and the final Kilometer is as the first to the finish area (Google Streetview goo.gl/maps/1R08S) just before the Rathfarnham Road Junction.

I got bored around 4pm yesterday so I did a quick water drop project on my own. It was all already in my head so it didn't take much time for the setup. And before 5pm, I was already finished.

 

Actually, my motive was to take a water drop forming a crown. Anyone got an idea?

As we approached the port in Nawiliwili, we passed the Ninini Point Lighthouse at the entrance to the cove, warning ships of the rocks that guard it..

 

It just so happened that from where I was standing, on Deck 12, starboard, midships, at that exact time of day, at this exact moment, the sun passed directly behind the top of the lighthouse, making it look like the brightest lighthouse on the planet.. I saw it coming, and I couldn't resist..

 

I kinda can't help thinking now that it looks like someone detonated a thermonuclear device at the top of a tower, and guess actually, that's kinda what it is! It's nowhere near the tower, but it (the sun) *is* a kind of thermonuclear device..

This is a photograph of the 34th Airtricity sponsored Dublin City Marathon which was held in Dublin, Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday 28th October 2013 at 09:00. There was dry but very blustery conditions for the runners over the famous Dublin Marathon course which seen over 14,000 people participating in the event making it a record participation at the event. Photographs were taken at the start of all three waves, near the finish line from the winner to 2:43 finish time, and then some photographs at the 25.5 mile mark of approximately 3:40 finish time participants.

To prevent missue of these photographs there is a watermark embedded into the images. All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution without the watermark. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images without the watermark: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

 

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

 

     ►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

     ►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

     ►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

     ►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

  

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
