As I walked the perimeter of the Lotus Pond this tall Lotus flower growing next to the bank caught my attention.
While I usually prefer my flower posts as natural and straight from the garden as possible. On this occasion however I could not resist doing something a little different.

The crew of #16 checks the temps of the bearings the old fashion way - by feel. This image could just as easily have been taken in 1943 instead of 2023. The East Broad Top is truly a magical place.

A shot from last year's trip to the deserts of Abu Dhabi, courtesy of Abu Dhabi Desert Safari Tours.
The Empty Quarter or Rub' al Khali is the desert area encompassing most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula. The desert covers some 650,000 km2 including parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It is part of the larger Arabian Desert.

It is in the union of the soft light, the beckoning wind, the exposed dunes, and the ocean waves – that Prince Edward Island's shoreline reveals its timeless beauty. This image is pre-Fiona. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Fiona, much of the effort into sand conservation, has been undone. The shoreline in this particular region is off-limits to hikers, but it can still be appreciated for its beauty and timeless qualities from a distance in the soft morning light through a telephoto lens.
Here's another from my 8th successful Batten Kill day that brought my 'batting average' up to .500. This was a favorite from the day despite it being late, cloudy, and dark necessitating a higher ISO than I prefer. But the 'grain' adds a bit of an old time feel to a scene seemingly lifted straight out of the 1950s or 60s.
Very much on home rails, G&J 4116, a veteran ex D&H Alco RS3 (blt. Sep. 1952) is seen crossing the Hoosic River Bridge at about MP 142.5 at the south end of the old Delaware and Hudson Washington Branch as they cross from Washington into Rensselaer County and from the town of White Creek into the town of Hoosick.
I've always shot from the upstream side of the bridge by the barn at the end of Daun Lane and have long wanted to try this downstream side from the parallel Route 67 bridge and I'm quite pleased with the results despite the conditions.
