The Three Sisters are three sandstone columns that have become one of the most visited attractions in Blue Mountain National Park. They are located at the edge of Jamison Valley in Katoomba, New South Wales.
OK, now I added short stick trinagles to the ends of each of the nine main sticks. The short sticks do two things:
1) they add more height, since the angles they create are more acute
2) they add a little more diameter... now we might be covering 1017sqft

AM I PAYING TO BE PROMOTED?
No. You are paying for the seminars, and while I strongly encourage everyone to be present for the seminars, it is not required. You may show up for the second half only. But, again, I strongly encourage everyone to be present for the seminars. It helps us with organization, expresses to the instructors that you are interested in learning, and fosters a team oriented environment.
WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS FOR BEING PROMOTED?
Under the Capital flag you must demonstrate the 3 Ts: time on the mat, toughness and technique. Visualize a triangle, where technique is on top. On the bottom are time and toughness. Those who are very tough might have the time requirement reduced (but not below the minimum). Those with a great deal of time might have the toughness requirement reduced. Also, other variables may be taken into consideration. For example, one of our newest members is beginning his Jiu-Jitsu journey at 70 years young! Modifications will be made to ensure his journey is both challenge and rewarding!
WHAT ARE THE TIME REQUIREMENTS?
A blue belt takes an average of 1.5 years. A purple belt takes an average of 5 years. A brown belt takes an average of 7 years. A black belt takes an average of 10+ years. Most of the practitioners who tested for black belt had between 12 and 17 years of experience, and the pass rate was about 50%.
WHO MAKES THE DECISION FOR ADVANCEMENT?
Three instructors, including at least one black belt, must approve any promotion.
WHY DOES THE FORMAT KEEP CHANGING?
It’s been consistent for the last two years. However, we do expect that slight changes will be made as time goes on. We always seek feedback from students, peers and our instructors to make things better. The current format is: seminars (optional), sparring, promotions, gauntlet (optional), and group picture.
ETIQUETTE
At promotions events every practitioner should wear a laundered Capital branded white training kimono. This is the equivalent of wearing formal attire for a special occasion, like a wedding. Also, it is extremely impolite to ask an instructor about being promoted.
WHAT DOES THE NAVY BLUE BAR MEAN?
Royce Gracie and the Valente Brothers wanted to honor Helio Gracie’s life and legacy by wearing the navy blue belt that Helio wore. Going forward they are asking representatives to wear the navy bar (excluding white belts and new black belts). For more information about Grandmaster Helio Gracie’s decision to wear the navy belt visit: graciekentucky.blogspot.com/2010/06/why-did-grandmaster-h...
DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR PUTTING A NAVY BAR ON MY BELT?
The easiest thing to do is purchase athletic tape: www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&...
I BELIEVE YOU MADE AN ERROR REGARDING MEMBER X, BY PROMOTING/NOT PROMOTING HIM….
Think about a Jiu-Jitsu competition. Is it possible, from time to time, for the referee to make an error? Of course! It is also possible for the decision makers at our semiannual gatherings to make errors. However, as practitioners progress, more scrutiny is applied to their rank, and ultimately 40 - 60 black belts will test them. At that time practitioners must demonstrate the complete stand-up self-defense curriculum, striking, clinching, grappling and philosophy (the 753 Code).
I caution those who dwell on the rank progress of others, especially as it compares to their own. Instead I encourage you to apply your vigilance to your own journey in the gentile art.
DO I NEED TO BE AT THE PROMOTIONS EVENT?
To be promoted to the next color belt, yes. Technically, to be promoted with stripes on the purple and brown belt, also yes. However, we needed to honor time constraints at Saturday's event, and stripes for deserving practitioners will be awarded this week and in January.
IS THE GAUNTLET HAZING?
What is the difference between a healthy ritual and hazing? What in fact is hazing? According to Wikipedia: "Hazing is the practice of rituals and other activities involving harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a group.” Does the gauntlet qualify?
Couldn’t we define the gauntlet as a rite of passage? Google defines a rite of passage as, "a ceremony or event marking an important stage in someone's life, especially birth, puberty, marriage, and death.” While I don’t know of any peer reviewed research articles, the overwhelming consensus is that there are tremendous psychological benefits to being included in a rite of passage.
There’s also acknowledging that our ritual is far less dangerous than the activities which led to it. Whether it’s the rigorous exercise, intense sparring rounds, competitions or the black belt test. In fact, Professor Pedro Valente noted that we are training to be effective in a proven fighting system. To take a hit is not only to be initiated, it's an essential component of our training.
I am not familiar with many of the reasons why people haze, and personally, I have never been involved in a hazing ritual. The gauntlet is our rite of passage; a tradition handed down to us by our elders. I am opposed to taking away or intensifying the gauntlet tradition. Our tradition is about the student, and I don’t believe that practitioners at Capital MMA experience some perverse pleasure in seeing people suffer. Rather, we are celebrating with the newly inducted.
I believe that the gauntlet tradition should only be carried on in the presence of the black belt instructors, exclusively at our semiannual promotions events. Also, it is our charge as black belts to educate junior members of our tradition, and how we conduct ourselves during the rite of passage. Injury, abuse and humiliation are never our objectives.
Finally, this tradition is, and always will be, optional. However, our requirements for being promoted are not. The rigor, intensity, and sacrifice experienced by senior practitioners is significant.
This is stunningly beautiful! Such rich colours and detail all done in stone. I love it so much.. and to think this is thousands of years old...

Le Suquet ( / sykÉ / "mound" in Provençal ), sometimes called Mont Chevalier , is the oldest district of Cannes , the "old town", located on a hill west of the bay , above the Old Port .
From prehistory to the modern period
The medieval castle and tower of the XI th century.
Le Suquet hill is the origin of the city of Cannes. Upon the ancient tribes of Ligurian occupy the site, which is a strategic location to install a oppidum overlooking both the bay and inland. Peaking at 66 m, is this high place of the original settlement which gave its name to the town, the term Ligurian Canoa meaning "high" or "peak".
In the Middle Ages , the power of the counts of Provence is based on the fortifications that serve both to protect themselves from attacks from the sea to show his power to the people and the local nobility, unwilling to accept the order feudal one . These strongholds, is at the top of the hill of Le Suquet, a Castellum Marcellini ("Castle Marcellin"). William I st the Liberator after his hand resumed county of Provence , gives, in 960, which was only a very modest castrum to Rodoard, head of a branch of the powerful family of the house of Grasse , with the fief of Antibes Cannes which is part a reward for his loyalty.
Around the year 1030 Gruette William, eldest son of Rodoard, enter orders and sells part of his land to the abbey of Lérins . The deed of gift is also the act of creation of the territory that would become the town of Cannes. He mentions a castle on the hill Suquet, in the center of a new urban area that grows. The act of 1030 still refers to a port that was really just a beach. Reads: From Portu Canue , most authentic form, from the word Ligurian Canoa meaning "high" or "peak" and referring to the ancient place of human occupation on the hill Suquet.
In 1080, the abbot of Lérins Aldebert II began the building of the great tower of Suquet to put the site safe from attacks by corsairs and Saracens . In 1131, the donation is confirmed by the Count of Provence, note that the Pope will seal itself. "The Count says our free city and free of all charges. She became a "free" land. This means that it does not pay taxes and they will pay taxes ... comtaux others. ". A signaling system by lights from the tower of the fortified monastery of Lérins Abbey and that of Suquet installed in 1327. The tower of Suquet is not completed until three centuries later in 1365 by Father Jean de Thornafort . With its twenty two meters high it can monitor the bay of Cannes.
In 1178, the Castellum Marcellini takes the name of Castellum Francum (Frankish castle). We see developing a real home with a feudal castle, houses, a hospital, churches, Notre-Dame-du-Puy, who, after the construction of Our Lady of Hope , will become the Chapel of St. Anne . This site is therefore a castrum , that is to say, a fortified village, grouped around the castle (now museum Castre ). A tight frame is observed around the castle and the church, on the ridge and down the slopes to the east and north especially, away from the ramparts: the barrier . A single source of fresh water flows at the foot of Le Suquet. Village activities are agriculture (wheat, olives) and fishing strictly regulated. The commercial dynamism is closely related to port activity and rich market town of Grasse who exports its fabrics and leathers.
In 1447 the inhabitants are free commune to escape the grip of the abbots of Lérins. The construction of the church of Our Lady of Hope is undertaken in the XVI th century. The XVIII th and XIX th centuries sanitation and road works leading to the destruction of part of the walls and many houses to allow Italy piercing of the road, the present Rue Georges Clemenceau, and the Mont Chevalier Street. At the end of the XIX th century Suquet population is enriched by the arrival of Italian immigrants, mainly from Piedmont. Two new roads are open, framing the Forville market recently established the streets of Dr. Pierre-Garzagnaire and Louis Blanc. The castle, partly destroyed, sold as national property during the Revolution became, in 1878, a ceramic factory "The Mont Chevalier art pottery". In 1919, the town of Cannes installs the Musée de la Castre .

The hill is sandwiched between the boulevard Victor Tuby north the street from Dr. Pierre-Gazagnaire to the east and the loop of the Georges Clemenceau Street to the south and west. A helipad is located at the foot of Le Suquet, at the end of the pier of the Old Port . The forecourt of the church of Our Lady of Hope hosts summer concerts of musical evenings of Le Suquet . Now that the dust has settled a bit, perhaps it's time to upload some of my small Woolworths backlog. This picture of the Great Yarmouth store was taken three months ago when, as far as any of us knew, all was well with the great household-name retailer.

Most of the sculptures I've seen depict angels that look like women or girls. I've observed that they're usually nurturing or bearing expressions of compassionate emotion. If I ever come across one like the crying angels on Dr. Who, I'll be sure to ask someone what year it is! LOL
The male angels I've seen are protective and even war-like. Projections of gender stereotypes, of course, but also symbols used to serve different needs. Like here at the cemetery.

The early 13th century Biblical window in the north choir aisle, amongst the very finest medieval windows to survive. The panels represent subjects from both Old and New Testaments; the original panels from the two lowest rows have not survived and their places have been filled by scenes from other windows of the same date (mostly from a now empty window in the north east transept).
Arguably the most important of England's cathedrals and its Mother Church, few other buildings embody the nation's history as much as this one. It also bears the distinction of being the first major example of Gothic architecture in Britain, where French masons introduced the style during the rebuilding of the choir following a major fire in the 1170s. Throughout the following centuries it became one of Europe's leading centres of pilgrimage, when thousands flocked to venerate the shrine of murdered archbishop St Thomas Becket, but brought to an abrupt end with the English Reformation, when a saint who defied a monarch was viewed with particular enmity. Though all traces of the rich shrine were destroyed, the site of Becket's martyrdom in the north transept remains a place of reverence to this day.
The cathedral is a stunning building which represents both the earliest and latest styles of English Gothic architecture, from the French inspired eastern limb and apse, to the nave, transepts and the three towers, all soaring examples of the Perpendicular style, the central tower (the 'Bell Harry') being an especially fine structure (the north-west tower was rebuilt in the 1830s as a copy of its medieval neighbour on the south side following the demolition of an earlier Norman tower, thus the present symmetry of the west façade is a relatively recent feature, originally its mismatched towers would have given it a more Continental appearance).
The earliest parts of the cathedral however are Norman, represented the easternmost chapels and transepts flanking the choir, survivors of the fire of 1174, each transept being adorned by a richly decorated miniature tower. The crypt below is the finest in the country, extending below most of the east end (with a transitional early Gothic extension to the east under the apse). Superb examples of Romanesque art can be seen in many of the crypt's sculpted capitals, and the unusually well preserved murals in St Gabriel's chapel (sadly photography is forbidden in these areas).
The cathedral contains many notable tombs and monuments of all periods from the 13th to 20th centuries, foremost amongst them being the tombs of Edward the Black Prince (with a superb bronze effigy) and King Henry IV.
It's most celebrated feature is its wonderful collection of stained glass, much of it dating back to the late 12th and early 13th centuries including a sequence of the Ancestors of Christ and the especially beautiful 'Miracle windows' in the ambulatory (relating various miracles associated with Becket's shrine). The glass is justly famous as the very finest in Britain, its deep blues and reds often compared with the famous windows of Chartres.
On the north side many of the former monastic buildings remain, with a fine late medieval cloister and a vast rectangular chapter house. The cathedral library also stands here, but was rebuilt after being destroyed by bombing in World War II; fortunately all the medieval glass in the cathedral had been removed for safe-keeping throughout the war and damage to the building was otherwise superficial.
Canterbury Cathedral put simply invites superlatives, one of the most rewarding churches anywhere and a magnificent testament to England's Christian heritage.
