A guy in our village has transformed this old untended garden into a magical space in just two or three years. A local estate agency ran a competition for the best garden, and he won. Deservedly so, in my opinion.
On the 26th September 2018 the 'TSL Rosemary' (2012, 33,191DWT) leaves Silvertown in ballast for Brake, Germany. The tugs 'SD Dolphin' (2013) and 'SD Seal' (2008) having assisted the vessel off the berth follow her down the Thames.
The three Woolwich ferries are seen together for certainly the last time for me as a tug is enroute to collect the first for scrap. I wasn't happy with this picture at the time as everything is not in the right place but already I see it as bit f a classic!
Taken while moving and through glass, this is a shot of the facade of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Phoenix, Arizona. This is one of the sights to see while riding the new Light Rail in the Valley. I've posted another image of this architectural detail on flickr, about three years ago, here. Pigeons apparently find this architectural facade a welcoming place.
It is very interesting to take a shot and then look up on the Internet what can be learned about a place. In this case, I found that the Jesuit part of the Roman Catholic Church has an interesting history not only in the Southwest of the US, but also around the world. The next image will show a better view of this architectural detail. Here are some links I read with great interest. And of course, there are some real corkers in what I learned...
This is a website called "Ship of Fools" that has "Mystery Shopper" reports of those who attend services at a church, in this case, this particular church:
www.ship-of-fools.com/mystery/2008/1555.html
This is a wikipedia article on St. Francis Xavier - what a busy guy and what a history into the past, even to Asia, Indonesia, India, China, Japan, Italy, Portugal and also the Inquisition:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Xavier
I've got to tell you, in this day and age, I cannot imagine being a member of a church dedicated to this particular religious person considering the history. I surely hope the long tradition of Jesuit theology and missionary work is tempered by far better examples of faith at work in a positive way.
Toes...Zac Brown Band
I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today, life is good today
Well, the plane touched down just about three o'clock
And the city's still on my mind
Bikinis and palm trees danced in my head
I was still in the baggage line
Concrete and cars are their own prison bars
Like this life I'm living in
But the plane brought me farther, I'm surrounded by water
And I'm not going back again
I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today, life is good today
Adios and vaya con Dios
Yeah, I'm leaving GA
And if it weren't for tequila and pretty senoritas
I'd have no reason to stay
Adios and vaya con Dios
Yeah, I'm leaving GA
Gonna lay in the hot sun and roll a big fat one
And grab my guitar and play
Four days flew by like a drunk Friday night
As the summer drew to an end
( From: www.elyrics.net/read/z/zac-brown-band-lyrics/toes-lyrics.... )
They can't believe that I just couldn't leave
And I bid adieu to my friends
'Cause my bartender, she's from the islands
Her body's been kissed by the sun
And coconut replaces the smell of the bar
And I don't know if it's her or the rum
I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand
Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand
Life is good today, life is good today
Adios and vaya con Dios
A long way from GA
Yes, and all the muchachas, they call me big poppa
When I throw pesos their way
Adios and vaya con Dios
A long way from GA
Someone do me a favor and pour me some Jaeger
And I'll grab my guitar and play
Adios and vaya con Dios
Going home now to stay
The senoritas don't care-o when there's no dinero
Yeah, I got no money to stay
Adios and vaya con Dios
Going home now to stay
I'm just gonna drive up by the lake
And put my ass in a lawn chair, toes in the clay
Not a worry in the world, a PBR on the way
Life is good today, life is good today

Three vintage jigsaws made using images that appeared in Pears Annual magazines.
Left: A small photo of a jigsaw from Frank Dadd's painting, 'Home From The War, 1815' which appeared on the front cover of the 1916 album. This 170pc has a push-fit cut, with vaguely cloud shaped pieces. There is slight discolouration of four pieces, which might indicate replacements - but on the whole I think not. It was sold by gnomebase in Oct 2012. The 1916 Pears annual was photographed at a BCD talk, where another vintage jigsaw of this image was shown (see below).
Centre & Lower Right: The cover of the 1920 Pears Annual has been used for this small solid mahogany jigsaw. It has 130pc, sadly 5pc missing and measures 8x11in. It was sold by patsaid in May 2020. It would be nice to see it restored.
Top Right: The small landscape jigsaw also needs restoration, with 1repl and 4pc missing. It is the only jigsaw I have found using the Pears print by Hugh Thomson, 'A Canter on the Heath'. In the 1896 Pears Annual two prints were supplied by Hugh Thomson - this one and 'Leaving London to spend time in the Country (set in the courtyard of a galleried inn with two horse-drawn coaches - no jigsaws known of this print).
The Three Sisters are an unusual rock formation in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, on the north escarpment of the Jamison Valley. They are located close to the town of Katoomba and are one of the Blue Mountains' best known sites, towering above the Jamison Valley.
The Three Sisters were formed by land erosion around 200 million years ago during the Triassic period when the sandstone of the Blue Mountains was eroded over time by wind, rain and rivers, causing the cliffs surrounding the Jamison Valley to be slowly broken up.

I've never ever seen such three wheel cars except bond type movies.

Three enormous bronze swords stand monument to the battle of Hafrsfjord in the year 872, when Harald Hårfagre (Fairheaded Harald) united Norway into one kingdom. The monument was designed by Fritz Røed (1928 - 2002) from Bryne, just south of Stavanger. It was unveiled by Norway's King Olav in 1983.
The swords, which are about 10 meters tall, stand for peace and unification. One sword is larger than the others. This was Fairheaded Harald's sword. The swords are planted in solid rock - representing peace.
The swords can be found at Møllebukta which is a bay area on the southern shore of Hafrsfjord. The name "Møllebukta" derives from "mølla" (mill) and "bukt (bay). There used to be a corn mill here. Today the area is one of Stavangers most popular recreational areas.
Alta Vista is a small desert community located approximately 23 miles northeast of the city of Lancaster. The community is comprised of about three hundred dwellings including 1970's era houses, trailers, temporary make-shift shelters built from plywood, camper shells sitting on the beds of rusted out, broken down trucks. The residents are people who, by choice or circumstance, live on the fringe of society: survivalist, retirees on fix incomes, migrant farm workers, anti-government types, consipiracy theorists, people with a "past".
The entertainment center of Alta Hista and High Vista is the "Wing and a Prayer" bar and grill. The business sign for the establishment is an actual Cessna airplane crashed into the roof of the building. In it's hayday, Wing and a Prayer was a watering hole for test pilots, aviation luminaries from nearby EAFB, and aviation enthusiast throughout the Valley. Today, it's a hang-out for locals, bikers, off-roaders, and ocassional tourist or film crew.
This past weekend, I noticed about 25 motocycles parked outside. I stopped to take some photos as I have done before. Except this time, instead of the normal crowd of accountants, lawyers, doctors, and other weekend road warriors showing off their $30,000 custom bikes, I encountered a genuine motocycle "club". And, the leader of the club was not happy to see me snapping photos of his member's rides. He and four of his friends "invited" me into the backroom of the bar and asked me if I was Five-O. What?! I protested. "Do I look like law enforcement?" "If you're not ATF, then why are you taking photos of our bikes?" he asked. "Look, I'm just a goofball with a camera. Me and my mule, we like taking photos of shiny stuff" I said.
After a brief explanation about the adventures of Ferris the roaming mule, the bikers seemed to relax a bit. But, they still stood over my shoulder and made me delete any photos that showed license plate numbers or other identifying marks on their bikes. Before leaving, I asked the guy in the photo if I could get a picture of Ferris on his head. I said, it would make a hell of a good story to take back to his other mule friends. The biker said, "Hell No." I was disappointed, but also happy I didn't have to get into a tussle over my camera (or Ferris). Although, I'm afraid Ferris would have had to take one for the team if things got sketchy. But, I couldn't give up the camera as I would have had to answer to the Mrs. And, some lame excuse about a motocycle gang wasn't going to get me out of hot water if I lost her photos of our kids at their soccer game.
This is Andre and his brothers Anthony and Adrian. They're triplets! I took pictures for them yesterday! :D
Sorry for the late upload, somethings wrong with my internet so I used my phone's hotspot feauture thing to get on..
Does anyone remember your three candles? The magic of the moment, the happiness and the effort to actually blow them out:))))) Clapping and encouragement afterwards. So precious :)))
I'm planning a small, operating engine terminal. This is the first structure of it. Trying to complete the design in 3 weeks. Ideas welcome. I'm loosely imitating the UP Cheynne roundhouse
Three Shire Head (also known as Three Shire's Head, Three Shires Head, Three Shire Heads) is the point on Axe Edge Moor where Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire meet, at UK grid reference SK009685, or
53.213°N 1.987°W.
It is on the River Dane, which marks the Cheshire border in this area. On the east of the river, the border between Staffordshire and Derbyshire runs north-east for about a mile to Cheeks Hill, on the higher regions of Axe Edge Moor. From Cheeks Hill the border runs south then east to the head of the River Dove.[1]
The main landmark is an ancient packhorse bridge.
The day began when I picked up Aileen, Erica, Wilbert, Leo, Cupcake, and Jiffy and headed over to the dog park in Otay Ranch. I like how my nice-sized, five-seater sedan can fit four dogs and three humans (including myself). We stayed for a good hour before we dropped off the pups.
We had lunch at In-N-Out and planned to find a place to shop for shoes after. We decided on shopping in Hillcrest. After buying a caramel latte from Babycakes and some candy from the best candy shop in town, we got our parking validated and began shopping. We went to a couple really cool stores. I think they were called Flashback and Buffalo Exchange. We also went to a bookstore so that Aileen could find a book that she needs for one of her classes.
As we walked back to the car, I saw a sign outside a sushi restaurant that said happy hour, half off on sushi! Aileen doesn't like seafood at all, but she knows it's one of my favorites. Even though she had to be home, she went in with me and waited while I decided on which roll to order. We got it to go and I ate it when I got home. When Aileen got home, she had spaghetti. I don't really like spaghetti and Aileen doesn't like sushi, but we still enjoyed our dinners very much. I think I don't like spaghetti because my family makes it weird. However, I can honestly say that the best spaghetti I've ever had was at Aileen's house! :)
Aileen and I don't always agree on what to eat, but we always compromise with each other. We're amazing at working around each other's cravings and finding something we can both enjoy. I love how well we compromise with each other and how we make the best team ever!
1910 postmarked postcard view of Plymouth Street in Bremen, Indiana. The photographer was standing at the Jackson Street intersection and facing east when he took this photograph.
The SHORT ORDER LUNCH ROOM sign was for a business just outside this view. It was the second building east of Jackson Street on the north side of Plymouth Street. The signs for GERBER TAILOR, DOCTOR T. D. SMITH and the FISHER BROTHERS DRUG STORE were all mounted on posts at the curb. It is difficult to determine which building is associated with each sign. The tailor shop was probably located in the single-story frame building. The 1905 Sanborn™ fire insurance map set for Bremen shows a sewing machine business at that location. The 1910 map set shows a millinery shop. Presumably, Doctor Smith’s office was in the first brick building and the drug store was in the second. Both Sanborn™ map sets show an office in the first brick building and a drug store in the second. (The town did not yet have a standardized street address system when these map sets were published.)
The barber’s pole was in front of the two-story brick building. Both the 1905 and the 1910 map sets show a barbershop in the east half of that building. The 1905 map set confirms that a saloon was located next door in the two-story frame building. By 1910, that building (on the northwest corner at Center Street) had been replaced by the newer three-story Dietrich Building and the saloon was gone. The space next to the saloon had been occupied by a millinery shop in 1905. The name on the awning in this view appears to have been AMERICAN HOUSE. A clothing store was at that location when the 1910 map set was published.
Across the street, near the southwest corner of Center Street, was a sign advertising THE NEWS [STAND?]. Both the 1905 and the 1910 Sanborn map sets show a news business in the building nearest that corner. A SPARTA sign was mounted high on the brick building next door.
The STAR RESTAURANT sign advertised the business in the first frame building west of the two brick buildings in that block. A restaurant/millinery shop was in that building when the 1905 map set was prepared. The 1910 map set shows the restaurant without the shop. The sign above the doorway on the next building west included the word UNDERTAKER. Both Sanborn map sets identify this as the location of a furniture store. Furniture store proprietors were often undertakers as well. Both map sets also show a millinery shop in the building at the right edge of this postcard view.
All the vehicles in this scene were horse-drawn carriages or wagons. There were no automobiles.
From a private collection.
