My beloved “Aggie Kung Fu Panda” has been “taken” from his office in the Corps of Cadets Centre by a senior trumpet player in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. “Band Boy” took him to an Asian restaurant. That’s a bit of a stereotype. “Aggie Kung Fu Panda” loves BBQ ribs and brisket. He called me and said, “They think because I’m a panda bear, I like raw fish.”
“Save the Panda!” cried out Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring.
Those of you who know I'm colourblind will realize I have no fucking clue whether this actually has a duck in it or not, people in my office says it does... I kinda trust them....

Those heading south, who also want to escape the mass-tourism soullessness of Vung Tau, could press on to Long Hai, a less-commercialised seaside retreat within a couple of hours’ drive of HCMC. The fishing village of Long Hai, 30km northeast of Vung Tau, has a pretty white-sand beach and the area benefits from a microclimate that brings less rain than other parts of the south. Its natural beauty and microclimate are the main reasons why Bao Ðai, the last emperor of Vietnam, built a holiday residence here (now the Anoasis Beach Resort).

Long Hai is a peaceful place to visit during the week, but it loses its local character on the weekends when Vietnamese tourists (and the occasional busload of Chinese visitors) pack the sands on weekends. Though there are a couple of low-key resorts in the Long Hai vicinity, western travellers have yet to arrive, so if you’re looking for a lively spot with dining and nightlife action, Mui Ne is probably a better choice.

full moon + still water + lightning storm + warm sand + palm trees + starry skies + all in one frame = perfection
A long stretch of thunderstorms from July 5-14 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. On 8 of those 10 days I received t'storms.
07/05: This started with a severe warned cell to my south (approaching Midland, 10 or so miles away), warned for 1.00" hail. Some new cells formed ahead of this severe storm and so those hit my area instead. No severe weather locally but I enjoyed some frequent lightning every 10 seconds, some loud thunder shaking my house. A weather spotter reported 0.80" of rain in my area.
07/07: This day began with multiple severe warned storms to my West, SW, and South in Northern California around 3pm. The flow was SE to NW so these stronger cells missed my location by 20-30 miles. I could still see the one directly to my west though. Later on storms came in from the east. Ominous skies overhead before some more moderate-heavy rainfall for a while. Lightning/thunder every 30 seconds with this one.
07/08: This was one of the few days I didn't get any storms. But some awesome mammatus clouds during this overcast day.
07/09: This was a bit more exciting. A powerful thunderstorm came rolling down from the North about 20 miles away, moving south. Warned for half dollar size hail (1.25") and 60+ mph winds. On radar it exhibited a brief Bow Echo feature on a few frames. This storm produced a gust front (a minor one at that though), but this formation dissipated shortly. After 15 minutes, it just looked like a regular 'ol drenching t'storm to me. Lightning was still impressive, every 10-15 seconds some CG's and flashes were observed. Locally no severe weather, but I am sure something was going on to my north during the Bow Echo.
07/13: Garden variety day here. But heard a couple rumbles so it amounted to something. And a decent sunset later.
Overall, not bad. Even though I missed all the bigger storms in the region, I DID however manage to receive my longest stretch of convection ever since I moved to Klamath Falls. 07/05, 07/06, 07/07, 07/09, 07/10, 07/11, 07/13, and 07/14 were all t'storm days for me. And I was close to having some on 07/04, and 07/08.

“In May, 1918, there was unveiled in the Malvern Church a massive and ornate oak Honour Roll, which will record for all time the names of 180 young men who were associated with the church or Sunday school and who responded to the national call for active service. The women of the church . . . decided, when hostilities ceased, that they would honour the memories of those who made the supreme sacrifice by subscribing the cost of memorial windows . . . ‘To the glory of God and in memory of the men of this Church who fell in the Great War, 1914-1919’. Below these a brass tablet mounted on oak, bearing the names of the thirty-two who fell. The designs for the windows and the brass tablet were the work of Mr. James Williams, a member of the church and artist for Messrs. Clarkson, Limited.” [Aust Christian Commonwealth 24 Dec 1920]
