I don't know what I did to this.

It looks solarized.. who knows!!?!?

It's MAD scratchy, but whatever.

Justice. Just. Fair. One for all. Or is it? Think of justice, and we imagine suits; a gavel hitting a mahogany desk; or people coming together on the streets. Or maybe like Author Omid Safi wrote, “Justice is love, embodied.” Justice is restorative when empathetic and innovative solutions are brought to the forefront. Most importantly, justice is different. It looks different for each of us, and that sometimes makes it harder to understand. But we’re here for it. Which is why this time, we have not one but two speakers. They will talk to us about what justice means to them and get us thinking about what it might mean to live in a just world. We want to listen, learn, ask, and then continue to ask. Because it ain’t justice if it ain’t for all.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Maiya Michelle believes in the power of stories to evoke compassion and encourage action. Having worked with adults and young people within the UK justice system, she remains mindful of groups that are overrepresented in it. Maiya volunteers at ‘Appropriate Adult’ in South London, safeguarding the rights of young people when they are arrested, in addition to supporting the team at ‘100 Women I Know’ to raise the voices of victims of sexual violence, and hosting monthly Intimate Story Sessions with her creative partner Edith Whitehead.

Fiona Curran started the Koestler Arts programme when she joined the arts in criminal justice charity Koestler Trust, in 2009. Since then she’s led their artistic output across the UK, and its annual awards programme for people in prisons, secure forensic hospital settings, immigration centres, and on probation and community sentences. Around 3,500 people participate annually and their work is considered for exhibitions and events, inviting the public to think about the creativity of people in secure settings.

I think I can be excused for looking a little stunned here, given the stunning scenery of Isle Haute! Unfortunately, the trip was just about over . . .

I like this one a little bettah. Only because we all match now. :)

Makes me think, makes me smile, makes me cry.

I think this intersection is just hilarious! What a tremendous overload of street signs. The newest thing at this downtown Boulder intersection is the green bike-shaped image on the street signal which is just for bikes. Heaven help you if you're trying to drive around in Boulder, or even walk somewhere -- and don't get me started on the issue of trying to find a parking spot!!

the plack next to it says new home residence, furnished appartments. I really wish i could move in there. :P

Sometimes I think I took better flower/garden pics with my p&s. I suppose that's because of the macro, and I had more practice then - my landlady's garden in Guyana was a great place to just pop out for a few minutes. So, now I have to wait till I go home for a weekend when I have time to explore my mother's green children.

That roller has been around for a while. Ever since we were renovating the house a couple decades ago. Not sure what we use it for now, other than a prop for the bougainvillas.

Meat-eaters might not think about the meaning of the bones in front of them, free of flesh, blood, fat, and connective tissues. After all, after a meal there could be a similar bone on one's own plate. But this neat display of the butchered pieces of what once was a living creature is hardly routine or lacking in emotional response among people who choose not to consume animal bone, skin, organs, and muscle. Standpoint, frame of reference, and habits all affect the interpretation of what appears before one's eyes.

I think this was taken at CLE. The MD-80 fleet was retired long before the merger. I managed to ride on one from MEX to IAH about a month before they disappeared.

The 2018 Think development - Think WIDER conference, held on 13-15 September in Helsinki, Finland, showcased UNU-WIDER, its work, and the many people and institutions that are engaged with it.

The conference held panel discussions on all of the main themes and findings of UNU-WIDER’s research during 2009-18 — finance, food and climate change; and transformation, inclusion and sustainability.

The event aimed to mobilize evidence and action around the 2030 SDG agenda and its goals.
