Toast Wine Lounge: Think of us often
What:
Lunch with a colleague at a new restaurant/wine bar in Rockridge, CA.
How:
The check got dropped and attached with a clothespin was the most
brilliantly simple comment card with only two words: "Date, Comments." I
then realized that the comment cards posted in the outside patio where we
were sitting must have come from customers like myself. I sniffed brilliance
so sought out the server (who ended up being one of the owners) to learn
more about the comment cards, what gets posted (only the positives?), etc.
In my brief conversation with Kristen I learned something even more
interesting.the stacks of corks displayed in the restaurant were brought in
by customers. The owners ask customers to bring in corks to help decorate
the restaurant. This means customers all over the East Bay are thinking of
Toast every time they sit down and relax to drink a bottle of wine. I also
learned that they used the community to raise money to open the restaurant
and gave those that pledged wine vouchers to be used when the restaurant
opened ("bar"raising vs. fundraising).
Why:
Linking an everyday (or, uh, every so often) event like opening a bottle of
wine to an association with your brand can encourage customers to think of
you often. In the case of Toast, it also creates an organic way for
customers to connect to the Toast brand when it matters most.when customers
are consuming what Toast sells: wine and food. Brill!

As part of a calorie cut, I've been eating almost no added oil for a few months. That probably sounds awful but it's actually been great once I adjusted! I don't intend to do it forever as there are foods I miss but I do always think it's interesting how much we can adapt and how doing so kinda shakes up your assumptions and perceptions of what's non-negotiable. . Anyway, here was tonight's dinner. I do rub a very thin layer of EVOO on the potatoes before baking them just to keep them from drying out but that's the only oil here. I've been really surprised at how well certain things cook without oil, like this baked tofu (just coated in tamari, nutritional yeast, and seasoning) or sautéed vegetables (though this broccoli is steamed). . Again, I'm not giving up oil or margarine forever, but I think even when my cut is done I will likely eat less of it than I was before (which was a lot 😂 Moderation is NOT my strong suit). It's tasty and has its place, but I want to be more intentional with it, which now seems much more doable! . (Pre-emptive disclaimer because I know nutrition posts are often touchy: yes, I'm getting enough of all my necessary nutrients, including fat. Also, this is working for me and my current goals but my post is in no way meant to influence anyone else's choices. Finally, yes, Jason's birthday cake last week was a big exception 😊) via Instagram bit.ly/2IFl7E5

I think this speaks to me as many as not only does it feature albums throughout a long period of time. But also features various ways that listening has been popular throughout the years. Obviously there’s more than one album but when you think about how many people it took to create the physical products. That is another reason this photo says many to me.
I was very excited about this weeks theme. My stepdaughter and her friend were excited to help. I had them take paint and write on each other adjectives they felt described the other person. It was a very interesting time together. Then we took some fun pictures of their decorated selves. I decided to include a small sampling of the time since it was so meaningful. to them and me.

I think these colorful little things are incense. The packaging alone makes me want to buy one even though I wouldn't use it. And somehow it's tied to coffee.

On the stroke of midnight, four racing cars and a truck speed along the road towards "the end of the world". They move so quickly as if they are having a race. On the other hand, a yellow car appears relaxed and strolls down the street in the morning ...
I think I probably need to sacrifice the very runty seedlings to give the bigger ones more room to grow. The very smallest seedling is about 1 inch tall and has been for weeks.
