I think I've got the ID correct; please correct me if not. According to the websites I've read, this hoverfly is common; however, I don't think I've seen it before. I found this one on an umbellifer (which it apparently favours) in Lainshaw Woods, Stewarton. It didn't pose for many shots before hovering off :D.
It doesn't seem to have a common name.
The last batch I think. Really running out of ideas/combos (does it show? Lol)
Left to right:
One Vision. Noble cyclops of justice. Fantastic hair. Shiny sword.
Ray-Bid. Maniacal werewolf who just happens to be an expert with blades. What? Werewolves can be good. Unh, right?
Golden Rod. Crispy metallic metal man of gold and wearer of fig leaves. He reflects and concentrates sunlight onto his enemies!
Lady Bird. Aerial master. Beware foes! Her Death Flute will make short work of you with it's beautiful yet deadly melody!
Bite Fist. Sharks for hands. Seriously, do not arm wrestle this guy.
but I think the most emotion I feel on my birthday is at the end of the night when after I've opened sweet gifts and cleaned the plate the eaten cake was on, take my makeup off and change into sweats and a sweatshirt and just start crying about that this is how it is. another year. another beautiful year gone, slipped through my fingers. and all I can do is watch myself get older. and all I can do is live with the fact that we just spent a whole lot of money on thoughtless people. and all I can do is look at the same candles we use on my cake every year since I was about 7. and all I can do is live with the fact that I didn't get to see my best friend in the world today. all I can do is sit here and cry. but this is how it is every single year.
if 2 years ago seemed like yesterday, I can only hope these next 2 years will go by as slow as possible. honestly, it's just how I feel.

Spent a great lunch hour traipsing around Glacier Lake during one of my first visits to the Wallowas. This was taken on a film camera, but I think it was taken in September of 2006.
Think Hollow Bastion but make it Black Falcons, and Dreamzzz, and Chima, and Steam Punk.
Did the Black Falcons (the real Black Falcons) build this place? Or did they just find it and move in?
I think this is a Coopers Hawk? I was happy to see him and get this with a not so great lens. He sat pretty for me with both dogs as I snapped, then walked away.

Well did you think I could go to Holy Island and not visit the Priory? Of course not. Here's the history.
Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island was one of the most important centres of early Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England. It is still a place of pilgrimage today, the dramatic approach across the causeway adding to the fascination of the site.
St Aidan founded the monastery in AD 635, but St Cuthbert, prior of Lindisfarne, is the most celebrated of the priory's holy men.
From the end of the 8th century, the isolated island with its rich monastery was easy prey for Viking raiders. In 875 the monks left, carrying Cuthbert's remains, which after long wanderings were enshrined in Durham Cathedral in 1104, where they still rest. Only after that time did Durham monks re-establish a priory on Lindisfarne: the evocative ruins of the richly decorated priory church they built in c. 1150 still stand, with their famous 'rainbow arch' - a vault-rib of the now vanished crossing tower. The small community lived quietly on Holy Island until the suppression of the monastery in 1537.
Imagine a world before the Internet, where there was hardly any form of communication amongst the crossdressing/transvestite community. All was not completely lost however. One single light in the UK during the 1980's and 90's was Swish Publications's "World of Transvestism" (or WOTV as it became abbreviated). A successor to the much earlier "Tranz" magazine, WOTV was published monthly, inside was an "Aladin's Cave" of letters, photos (black and white), occasionally stories and illustrations. The publishing quality was quite poor and WOTV was not cheap (I think it was £6 when I first started to acquire my own personal copies).The cover usually graced some of the more photogenic girls, many of whom I am pleased to say are on Flickr. In view of their privacy I shall not post those, but I would like to share this cover showing an example of the sorts of illustrations that were often printed.
Stockists were few in fact in my area there was only one newsagent that stocked maybe one or two copies a month, but one could travel to Swish's main store in Greek Street London, to purchase missing copies or "bargain bundles".
Sadly I now longer have the magazines, but I did scan all the covers and most of the images of some of the girls from those magazines. An officer from the 161st Refueling Wing engages targets on the reflexive fire portion of the Combat Arms Challenge hosted by the Arizona Army National Guard at the Florence Military Reservation. The objective here was to get two shots into a small square on the chest and one shot into a small triangle on the face within four seconds.

So I decided to make this really quick figure from the torso.
It's supposed to be some kind of Batman from a time long ago.

My heart is heavy right now. I think deep down I know why, but I don't want to admit it. I don't want to face it.
