The Barbary macaque (Macaca sylvanus), Barbary ape, or magot, is a species of macaque unique for its distribution outside Asia and for its vestigial tail. Found in the Atlas Mountains of Algeria and Morocco along with a small population that were introduced from Morocco to Gibraltar, the Barbary macaque is one of the best-known Old World monkey species.
Skull and brain, as illustrated in Gervais' Histoire naturelle des mammifères.
The Barbary macaque is of particular interest because males play an atypical role in rearing young. Because of uncertain paternity, males are integral to raising all infants. Generally, Barbary macaques of all ages and sexes contribute in alloparental care of young.
Macaque diets consist primarily of plants and insects and they are found in a variety of habitats. Males live to a maximum of 25 years while females may live up to 30 years. Besides humans, they are the only free-living primates in Europe. Although the species is commonly referred to as the "Barbary ape", the Barbary macaque is actually a true monkey. Its name refers to the Barbary Coast of North West Africa.

This think this is a male Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus), but I'm no butterfly expert. There were lots at Severn Valley Country Park today and I managed a shot of this one which seemed much less active than the others.
I did get some "edge on" shots too where the wings were fully in focus, but I personally prefer this "front three-quarters" angle.
"We have learnt that nothing is simple and rational except what we ourselves have invented; that God thinks in terms neither of Euclid nor of Riemann; that science has "explained" nothing; that the more we know the more fantastic the world becomes and the profounder the surrounding darkness."

This picture was shot at Prayag Ghat along the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras) during the celebrations of Dev Diwali on the occasion of Kartik Poornima.
The "Festival of Light" is the victory of good over the evil within and those young priests are performing Ganga Aarti with vedic hymns in order to please and welcome the Gods who descend on earth on that special day.

I think neither me nor Ece could put out her full potential in our shoot- there seems to be a sleeping volcano below the surface--but in some terms we were able to touch the lava. But maybe for our next session, we may discover more..I know these sort of concept might be ''unfamiliar'' for my own concept, for those who are used to see more static images--but still the dark emotions can be felt..and going into some experimental is always mind-opening..
The main idea of this session is what Kate Moss did in the White Stripe video- ''I just Don't know what to do with Myself''; those who have seen the video will understand what this image really means..
Some lines to contemplate about them, not to consider right or wrong, but just to ponder if you wish:
"Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, meditation...tooting, howling, screeching, booming, crashing, whistling, grinding, and trilling bolster his ego. His anxiety subsides. His inhuman void spreads monstrously like a gray vegetation." ~Jean Arp
Have a most beautiful week
My first attempt at light painting and I think it came out OK. I had not intended to do any light painting but when I saw this dead tree during the day, I decided to give it a try.
A bit challenging to compose as it was already very dark when I set up for the shot. I was there earlier when there was still some light out but had to return to Camp Curry for an "emergency" and by the time I returned, it was way too dark already.
There were 2 light sources on the tree. The bluish color was from my simple led flashlight I used to paint the tree. The warmer yellow light on the right side of the tree and the grass was courtesy of the park ranger truck by the sentinel bridge parking lot. Apparently, the park ranger pulled over a car and was doing a sobriety check on the driver. Couldn't avoid the light trails from the cars as there were a lot of them leaving the park (taken Sunday night before Labor Day).
Sigma 10-20 at 10mm, 46 minutes, f5, iso 200.
Funny thing when I was trying to compose this shot. I was lighting up the tree with the flashlight as I was looking through the viewfinder. As people went by me, they also started shining their light into the tree and were asking me if there was something interesting on the tree.
I think about the lamination of time and memory of the city while walking around the city at night by myself.
"Think of the self that God has given as an acorn. It is a marvelous little thing, a perfect shape, perfectly designed for its purpose, perfectly functional. Think of the grand glory of an oak tree..."

I think she aced this costume. Is is just me or is Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), in "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises," way too skinny? o.O?

Jena`,
I miss you so much. I miss making fun of Michael’s white pants and your ugly grandma and discussing how art makes you feel like God. But most of all, I miss laughing with you.
Zack,
I love you. I know I tell you that all the time, but its true. You are my best friend and I am so lucky to have you. And the reason I tell you all the time how much I love you is because I just want you to know that you mean so much to me, more than you’ll ever know.
Justin,
I feel like you thought of me as the friend that wouldn’t let you down- but I screwed up and I betrayed your trust. I know that you’re not sure if you trust me as much as you used to, but I just want you to know that its okay if you don't. I probably wouldn’t trust me either. I just hope that one day, you can trust me like you used to...
Courtney,
I know we’ve grown apart in the past few years but I think that things are starting to get better, and I’m very happy for that.
Kayla,
you are so loud and random, you’re hilarious and you’re a tad obnoxious but I just love you. You are awesome.
To the girl that I met camping when I was 7,
I don’t remember anything about you, except for that photo I found of you and I. but I think we would’ve been good friends.
Whatever you think of the British weather, if you don't like it one day there's always a good chance you might like it the next.
It's this diversity and changeability that makes British weather so distinct, say meteorologists. While temperatures are fairly mild and there are four distinct seasons, you can also get warm weather in the middle of February and freezing rain in the middle of August - or both in one day.
"Other countries might have more dramatic weather," says Dr Liz Bentley, head of the Weather Club at the Royal Meteorological Society. "In India and Pakistan you get monsoon season, but you can usually predict the day it will start and the day it will finish.
"In the UK you sometimes have to look at the weather forecast several times in one morning just to plan a trip out that afternoon. Things can change that quickly."
Many meteorologists call the British weather unique, although some say you could argue the weather in all countries is unique because no two are the same geographically and geologically. But they agree it is hard to find another country in the world with weather that compares to the UK.
"Britain's unique weather is all down to the fact it is an island and where it's positioned on the planet, between the Atlantic Ocean and a large land mass, continental Europe," says Helen Chivers from the Met Office. "There is a lot going on meteorologically where we are."
Britain is under an area where five main air masses meet. When they meet it creates a weather front. The air masses fight it out and the one that wins dictates the weather. The bigger the difference the worse the weather can be. One more important thing to throw into the mix is the jet stream. It is a high-altitude ribbon of fast-moving air that is associated with weather systems in the UK. The position of the jet stream can make a huge difference to the type of weather we experience.
All in all, it's quite an extraordinary mix of atmospheric conditions battling it out.
Agnes Riviera Drama is Scarlett O Hara in a deleted scene from Gone with the Wind. Agnes (Scarlett) spends a few moments pondering whether the red dress is the right thing to wear to Melanie's gathering. She loves the sumptuous velvet and the low cut low neckline shows off her full creamy bosom to perfection. She always has been a rule breaker but her latest attempt to lure Ashley away from Melanie was less than subtle and the good folk of the town do have a tendency to gossip. "Nah, to hell with it!" thinks Agnes - "YOLO!"

"When you think things are bad,
when you feel sour and blue,
when you start to get mad...
you should do what I do!
Just tell yourself, Duckie,
you're really quite lucky!
Some people are much more...
oh, ever so much more...
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you!"
